Thanks Colin as a relative new member I was not aware of this arrangement. I am only use to working at the Depot from the day it opened, not being a visitor attending a Forum Meet. May I ask where everyone normally rendezvous at the Depot. Does the Forum make any special arrangements with the LTM management to have a room made available to meet in.

Apart from those who will operating their layouts is anybody else planning to go to the above event on either the Sat/Sun. If so how about an informal Forum meet somewhere at the Depot.

As the A stock is such an important piece of Underground history lasting as long as it has. Should the LT Museum save a 4 car train, get it restored to it's original condition and run it like the 38ts. Have any members got any thoughts along these lines. (Sorry for the pun)

I know that the longest distance between two stations on the network is Chalfont-Chesham but can anyone give me a definitive answer to the question. What is the longest between stations in tunnel. Thank you.

Well said from me Metcontrol. As far as shops opening on Boxing Day, where I live our Tescos Supermarket is closed and also on New Year's Day. If Tesco's don't think it's worth opening on these days then it's not worth opening. I would also like to add that many years ago my Father was in hospital over the Christmas Period. He said " I know you cant get to see me on Christmas or Boxing Day so don't worry". So I went to see him on Christmas Eve instead. About a week later he died. The point is that I adjusted my plans accordingly depending on what was available not expect public transport to run at my requirements.

Colin, you have summed it up totally. Although I don't work for LUL now I did for a number of years and totally support what you have said.

The LT Museum has always operated outside of LUL/LT. I assume they worked to their own requirements. The management obviously felt it was appropriate to close on the 26th December.

One of the first stations I worked at after qualifying at the RTC in 1989 was at Aldgate. In those days after 1830 it was also absolutely dead then even M-F. Things may have changed now but certainly in those days it all finished at 6-.30pm. As a newcomer to LUL and after spending a number of years in the Private Manufacturing Sector I could never understand how keeping a station staffed when no one used it was viable. But after being on the job for a few months I soon got to learn the "rules" and nominated Watford/Croxley. Where I would be kept "Busy".

With regard to the LT Museum, as a former member of staff I would like to point out that it is open 363 days of the year so I would it imagine that the management decided to allow the staff to have 2 days off to spend time with their loved ones. Another point, a large number of staff in my day used National Rail! Say no more. In contrast to that we were often asked what time we were open on Christmas Day

Before the 95ts started operating some of the tunnel rings had to be ground down a whisker. I spent a few nights watching sparks fly in the tunnels between Warren St and Goodge St.

Slightly off thread so many apologies. But why do Southern operate their very limited service on the 26th where the rest of the Network in England doesn't operate. I can understand Eurostar running.

I thought I would bring a little levity onto the scene. I felt that there had been enough doom and gloom over the last couple of weeks ie. New Met Timetable etc

I have just read linecontroller66's comment regarding the Met becoming like the Northern of the late 80's. As someone who worked on the Met from 89 onwards I am shocked and stunned. As the premier line of the Combine becoming like the "Black One" God help us.
I have every sympathy for all Met Line staff from Line Controller down to CSA.

It would be interesting to see how many people travelled on Christmas day particularly on the branches, Is it safe to assume that the north end of the Met would have been closed.

I know it's not April but I thought I would try and lighten up. My favourite was one I did in about 1990. This was to write on a white board in the booking hall at Croxley the following message.
" APRIL 1st !9**
DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY OF ELECTRICITY BEING SUPPLIED TODAY TRAINS WILL BE RUNNING SLOWER THAN NORMAL".
Yes I did have a number of passengers ask how much longer their journeys would take.
Another was a that LUL had been building an extension to Milton Keynes and the new station would be opening on April 1st. A marquee had been erected in central Milton Keynes to cover the station works this would be removed at the grand opening in the morning of the 1st. This was announced on local radio in the MK area.

I love the new Pinner Line (formerly the Met) and the Pinner express. Will they go on to stop at Pinner Park, Pinner Road and then fast to Pinnergate. Sorry they will only stop at Pinner Park if Pinner Utd are playing at Pinner Stadium.

Don't forget XF that Edward Watkin WAS Chairman of the Met, MSL&L Railway, South Eastern Railway and he was on the Board of the Chemin de Fer Du Nord. So perhaps Met trains to Paris (Chesham- Paris Gare Du Nord) I wonder what the residents of Pinner would have thought of that

Sorry but somewhere I saw that on the 26th Dec the Met will operate Chesham-Watford. Can I ask what the rest of the Met is doing and how it fits into the Chesham-Watford service.

Pardon me for my ignorance on the current situation re Croxley Link but is there anywhere a mention of what will happen to Watford Met Stn. I was always led to believe it was a listed building. If this is the case does that mean it can't be demolished. Watford Met was the first station I worked at as a Booking Clerk under the old nomination system. (Does anybody remember that)

I assume that the notice specifically mentions dslr cameras. Does this mean that if I turn up with one of my high end 35mm film cameras I will be allowed to take pictures. Using fast film DIN 800 Portra for instance. Or will someone challenge me to prove my camera is not digital. Just a thought?

I have this morning finally managed to see the TfL Christmas service leaflet. Why after all these years have they decided to operate on the north end of the Met on Boxing Day. Has there been some market research and a requirement been recognised or is it wishful thinking. I thought after reading other threads that the north end of the Met is primarily a commuter service so negating the need for a service on the 26th Dec

Why would someone want to go from Bedford to Milton Keynes, Shopping. X5 Oxford -Cambridge on Boxing Day a couple of years ago was practically standing room only. That was with premium being charged. The route between AMersham/ Chesham- Watford Met and eventually Watford Jct. Even more reason for a service evn
