I am also retired and live well outside London so I along with my wife have retired PTACs. With Mr Khan's ULEZ coming into force hopefully us retired will also have access to on line ticketing. As it is I have to get a train from an unmanned station that has TVMs to a station that has a ticket office. If anybody knows anything about Northern Trains getting on a train without a ticket is a risky procedure. That is despite the fact I can't purchase the tickets I want from a machine.

Not a book recommendation. Back in June of this year we were in Orkney attending a friends wedding. Also at this wedding was Alan A Jackson's daughter. I had a very pleasant evening having a conversation with her about her father's work, Much to my wife's annoyance as she was stuck with some annoying guest who wanted to know about the history of the miner's strike in the Nottinghamshire coal field (we live in an ex mining village)

As I asked the first question "What makes you think etc" I must apologise for being somewhat curt in my style of questioning.
As a matter of interest as a retired PTAC holder I don't have to give up my seat. Sorry to all that do.

When I worked in LUL booking offices Farringdon was one of those stations that no one wanted to work at at. The reason being the Booking Office could sell Br tickets to all sorts of stations with all the different restrictions attached Things are now obviously vey different

I don't know about a pub being on a station but at Chorleywood there's a pub just outside the STN where on a "busy" Sunday lunchtime you stood a good chance of seeing the station staff having their "lunch". Those were the days

Even Steam on The Met ran at a financial loss despite most of te staff who worked on it were volunteers. However froma publicity ppoint of view they were always sucessful as far as I am aware.

As a former Front Of House/ Operations supervisor at the LT Museum I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the "Depot" I along time ago lost count of how many time I visited the "Depot" but still have to admit never actuallu saw everything there. I always found the small items the most interesting. The posters however are something really special. If you ever get the opportunity to see the collection it's worth while.

I also believe that the residents of the Moor Park estate own the stn. But as DistrictSOM says they have a lot of influence.

Things have certainly changed since I was on the "Job". Not necessarily for the better. I made the assumption in my earlier post that everybody would understand what Clas411 has underlined. My apologies, obviously a dangerous assumption. By the way MoreToJack I did eventually get my priv discount mounted on an Oyster card.

I worked at Watford Met and Croxley. I don't think anybody ever got on that last train to Ricky. There was never anybody about. Anyway it would have been lamped out and announced Ricky only if anybody was going to get on it. The north end of the Met was and maybe still is a different world.

I knew Keith very well. When I was at Watford we would always have a chat when he was changing ends. Then I would often see him at " Steam on The Met". He was well known for his endless supply of terrible jokes.

Don't forget that the decline in the quality of service to be found at stations began with the start of " Company Plan"

I wonder what the possibility of the VSOE starting from St Pancreas in the future is. That would make an interesting journey London to Venice without changing.

Being an ex North Londoner and knowing what sort of area Highgate is surprised that the residents have demanded that it should demolished and luxury apartments built on the site.

I remember when I worked on the Met our DsMs had a car to use so they could cover the large area that they were responsible for It had the normal LUL markings. They were told in no uncertain terms that a commercial vehicle could not go on the estate without the express permission of the committee The response was when your train service goes pear shaped we will submit a written application to drive the van On to the estate. This would have only been on Sundays as the service was iimited to every 30 mins on the Amersham Branch and every 30 mins on the Watford Branch.

as I lived across the road from the East Coast Main Line my favourite has to be the the LNER only because of their magnificent locomotives. However apart from the LNER my other favourite is without doubt the Metropolitan Railway only because I worked on the Met when I first joined LUL.

This might apply to the lift service as the station sometimes gets very busy if there are issues at Tottenham Court Road. In this case station control or whatever it's called these days will be bought in.

Please don't use initials. Some of us aren't totally au faux with what they mean. For instance to my mind SRA means Strategic Rail Authority. LST as far as I'm aware is an old naval term for Landing Ship Tank. Whinge over
