I know that the longest distance between two stations on the network is Chalfont-Chesham but can anyone give me a definitive answer to the question. What is the longest between stations in tunnel. Thank you.

I have always understood it to be Mile End to Stratford.

I have always understood it to be Mile End to Stratford. That's a long run, but Stratford station is actually in the open. Wikipedia says it's Seven Sisters/Finsbury Park on the Vic line.

I'd say Finsbury Park-Seven Sisters - seems to take forever - but Kings's Cross-Highbury & Islington can't be far behind. Makes me wonder if the Victoria Line was built on the cheap, very few stations

Kings Cross to Caledonian Road is a bit of a haul as well, although that might not count as it has a ghost station half-way.

Yes, you are right I didn't! That's what happens when you read last 70 posts! I'd go for seven sisters to finsbury Park too,

I'd say Finsbury Park-Seven Sisters - seems to take forever - but Kings's Cross-Highbury & Islington can't be far behind. Makes me wonder if the Victoria Line was built on the cheap, very few stations "Built to a budget" perhaps? Also speed may have been a factor...The Victoria has always seemed one of the faster lines in tunnel (Jardine01 may confirm this?) Bear in mind that both these stretches were planned to have intermediate stations...Manor House and Barnsbury respectively...these may have been dropped for either reason,I don't know.

Okay, and no arguing here, this is the definitive answer, Heathrow T4 and 123 at 4.31km. Sisters and Finsbury Park is 3.15.

I think those "planned" intermediate stations were dropped even before the final route was chosen. The Vic is one of the fastest lines in tunnel, as it was built for ATO from the beginning, and has very few curves which require speed limits. Compare this with the Central line, which despite having ATO, is hindered by trains having to slow down for curves, particularly around Bank.

The T4-T123 tunnel was meant to have an intermediate station - Terminal 5. I think the loop is a bit longer than it would otherwise need to be to take in the planned site of T5, but 20 or so years after the T4 loop was designed they built terminal 5 in a different place, which is why the PiccEx spur was needed.

Stratford isn't in tunnel, so I don't think that Mile End to Stratford counts.

Pedantic note: 'kms' and 'mins' should be expressed as 'km' and 'min' (non-plural)
