For those of you unfamiliar with my layout it is based on elements the Croxley Green branch and the Croxley Green depot but much scaled down. We do have some modellers licence as it makes life more interesting For instance - what if the Acton Shunter L11 paid a visit to Croxley Depot? Xerces Fobe

Croxley Wiggenhall Road Depot will be one of the layouts featured at the Marlow and Maidenhead MRC’s annual show on Saturday June 5th www.mmdmrc.org.uk/Lots of new things on the layout though some subject to change as I am working solidly to get as much done as possible before the show This years bad weather has made working on the layout somewhat difficult so I am currently in catch up mode New items include- • Green Class 501 EMU and hopefully another Blue livery variant 501 • Strawberry Hill “Beastie “ 501 depot shunter • L11 Acton Works shunter • Additional 1938 tube train working • More scenics around the station and backscene areas • Addition road vehicles including various London Country buses through the show I look forward to seeing you at the Show. I've watched your layout progress on RMWeb; and I must say I'm incredibly impressed with it. Without trying to sound too brash or forwards it was one of the inspirations I had for my own layout. Hopefully I can come and see it in the flesh, however it is quite a walk from Maidenhead station I'm not in tip-top fighting form at the moment. Cheers, ~ Gary

Hi Gary Thanks for your kind comments. There is a fairly frequent bus service 3/4 an hour to near the exhibition venue from the rear of the Maidenhead station Courtney Coaches www.courtneycoaches.com/ routes 4, 4c or 5 about 10 min journey. Regards, Nigel

I'm impressed. These are really good. You have really caught the depot atmosphere. Well done.

OK time for another cameo which was inspired from some footage of 1938 tube stock heading to Watford past the Cardiff Road Power Station featured on the Lost Lines Around London DVD. Xerces Fobe

Just got back from a cold and wet holiday and have just seen these pics (plus the ones from the show) for the first time. I'm seriously impressed sir! I love those shots inside the shed as they are very atmospheric. The 38 stock looks right at home and the 501 'monkey cage' emus look superb!. When is your next show booking as I just have to see this layout in the flesh.

Now in the correct thread I was tempted to paint one of the coaches in green as there are a number of photos on the web of these units in both green and blue in very poor condition. Some were withdrawn after only 10 years of service and spent nearly 20 years being robbed of parts and slowly rotting away. Xerces Fobe

One piece of advice I can give as someone who built his first (very poor) layout as a 15 year old and who, at 48, is still waiting to build his second is don't be afraid to ask. However daft you may think the question is, always ask it. As someone who has asked some daft ones here I can assure you that your questions will be treated with respect by the other members on this forum as we all have to start somewhere. Be inspired by the pictures that xercesfobe, Metman and others have posted and go for it. Mistakes will happen (believe me, I know!). Just be sure to learn from them.
Am I sounding really old yet? ;D

Yes, PM me if you want any advice. I'm also 'trying' to build Harrow-on-the-Hill at the moment! There's no right way to do things, its just what works for you!

The layout will be at Wycrail on 6th November. This is always a very good show with a heritage Routemaster Greenline Bus providing service from the railway station. www.hwdmrs.org.uk/index.htmI am planning some surprises on the layout for the Show! Please come and say hello - I am almost human - well some of the time anyway ;D Xerces Fobe

I have to admit at Wycrail we did have a few running problems, a case of introducing to new things at once and skimping on the track cleaning! The sound chp Class 501 did work well although I only managed to take a couple of photos with my older Nikon P5000 camera. Anyway here's a view of the shed with Class 501's in view the wrap around yellow end Class 501 has the sound chip and working front lights Xerces Fobe

Oops..............Watford drivers will be in for a carpeting with the blinds set wrong, no CY visible on depot Fear not the next 2 units that are in the works nearing completion will proudly display CY. The sound chip unit does have CY displayed at the the other end. Xerces Fobe PS. I was considering B8 for the green 501

Surely they're displaying the codes for their next duty, not their last one! Thanks Glyn - Job done then ;D In reality photos show a mixture of headcodes some of which are not common e.g. B5 C+blank. Conversely there are photos of 501's in Willesden displaying CY. When I fit working roller blinds it will be job done DCC controlled of course ;D Xerces Fobe

Surely they're displaying the codes for thier next duty, not thier last one! Prior to 1965 CY would only be shown for trains to Croxley Shed and they would not show a B code but correctly show C with the number of the working so a C2 to Bushey & Oxhey would change to a B2 forward to Broad Street. From 1965 all ECS workings to and from Croxley Shed would show CY, the units at Willesden TMD were sent to and from Croxley after Stonebridge Park electric depot closed to electric maintainence and therefore correctly showed CY. In later years when everyone got lazy headcodes became a little haphazard.
