It could haul the tanks to the Power Station - not sure if would clear the 3rd/4th rail - I have had to remove sand pipes from some of my diesels due to this problem. Taster for Saturday Xerces Fobe

Falcon should clear them. She's the Railroad version, with a lot less detail than the full-price version.

This all comes down to using an underscale track gauge. If you place the conductor rail the correct distance from the running rail it is likely to obstruct items such as sanders. The only solution is to either take up P4 scale, move the conductor rail out by about 1 mm or lower the conductor rail to the height of the running rails. The third solution is the only reliable method of overcoming the problem permanently.

I'll see you at Amersham. Won't bring any of my stock though as they are the only part of my life that doesn't involve chips! ;D

Thanks to all of you who came to Amersham, I really enjoyed the Show and the layout ran the best it has run for a long while. Next show all the 501's should have window bars fitted! Here is a photo of the layout taken by Glyn, at the Amersham show. Thanks again guys Xerces Fobe

It was like a forum mini-meet in front of the layout at one stage! I echo the above. It is a quality layout.

I found this photo on another Forum - Bidston EMU depot. I have never seen this building before, however you would be forgiven for thinking I had based my depot building on it! Xerces Fobe

A chance for those Forum members who live on the east side of London to see the layout. We have just accepted an invite to the Mid Essex Model Railway Club Exhibition at Shenfield on the 17th September 2011 www.midessexmrc.org/ This will most likely be the last appearance of the layout at a Show this year. All the Class 501's should have window bars fitted in time for this Show Xerces Fobe

Xerces Fobe Birkenhead Central? Oh sorry, thought this was the quiz for a moment there! There are plans afoot to re-open this place as a depot when the 507/508s are replaced in the not too distant future.

No.1 siding on the left (between the platform and shed) is still regularly used for stabling, presumably because there's a train crew depot here.

We, the members of Mid Essex Model Railway Club, are aware of it, and are looking for a permanent solution to the problem. Please bear with us. Further details of Shenfield to follow closer to the date.

Here is an update on the layout. The Anbrico Oerlikon EMU is now DCC Chipped Having purchased my HO Anbrico Oerlikon EMU from a former member of RMweb Forum I have toyed with the idea of fitting it with DCC chip in order that it can make guest appearance on my Croxley WRD layout, Well at long last I got my finger out and did it using a Bachmann 2 function chip. At nearly 60 years old is this the oldest model so far to have been DCC chipped? The roof section above the electrical compartment in the Motor Coach is removable so this made it easier to fit a DCC chip Here is the unit ready to make an appearance at the Mid Essex Show on 17th September I have also been working on the 4mm Oerlikon EMU on and off for a few months now. It is based on the London Road Models etches and is my first attempt at building in brass. I have the bodies basically built but the roofs have been somewhat challenging given that they are an unusual profile. I have opted to use DC Kits MK1 EMU roofs (thanks here to one Charles Petty) flatten them slighted and then make a plasticard frame so that they sit correctly on the coach bodies. I will be the first to admit this is not going to be the most accurate model of Oerlikon EMU you will ever see however it will give a good impression of what the units were like. It will be painted in BR Green livery with half yellow fronts which might be a first in modelling terms. I would like to have it finished and working by the Mid Essex Show in September however I have a number of other things taking my time at present not least of which is job hunting! Here are some photos of the progress to date- Construction of my 6th and final passenger Class 501 has begun, unit 501 164 which is one of a couple of Class 501's to carry the blue with HYF livery, however there a plenty more items of rolling stock at various stages of build that will at some point will appear on the layout. A new Signal Box is now in place on the layout. Bachmann did packaging in 2 halves and when I removed the signal box form its box it fell on the floor and broke into many pieces. I basically rebuilt and repainted it however there was some severe damage to the window to the right of the steps which still noticeable however it is a run-down line so it quite prototypical. I finished off the work on my "Hornby" today, fitted it with a DCC chip and took the opportunity to take some photo shots of it on the layout as well. Xerces Fobe

Why don't you try to make a three car LER/LNWR joint tube stock set for your shuttle service?
Good luck with the Oerlikon set. (and getting a job!)
I myself am busy painting/wiring A stock [5234-5] at the moment!

Thanks Metman A three car LER/LNWR joint tube stock set for your shuttle service is a possibility along with a model of the Stores Train. Both of these will be long term projects and maybe the subject of a 3D print build. I will be at the Northolt Exhibition Show this weekend with a demo stand www.northolt-mrc.org.uk/ so if any DD members are around please come and say hello . Phil Radley will be at this Show so well worth a visit. XF

Slight change of plan I will now not have a demo stand but I will be an operator on Stephen Dimmock's Stourpaine Road layout.
A change is as good as a rest - I might have NLL withdrawal symptoms by the end of the day. ;D
