As xerces says, Mid Essex show is next Saturday, 17th September, between 10am and 5pm. There are no engineering works affecting trains in that part of Essex on the day, unless anyone needs to catch the last train to Norwich on Sunday morning, in which case it is a bus replacement from Stowmarket ot Norwich! ;D

A quick update progress is being made with the 1927 trailer which will be inserted into one of 38 units soon. The six Q Stock cars are painted and now need bogies and glazing which will be done in due course. We are considering having a period at Shows were we only run Underground stock on the layout. The fictitious scenario is there were insufficient BR EMU's to run the branch so a couple of 3 car sets of Q stock were used and then there is the Pannier and Sarah Siddons! ;D Normal service with Class 501's will still rein for the most part though!

Hi Metman, I thought they were all Radley Models however only the Q38 car is. The others are all resin moldings and I am not sure of their parentage as I purchased them as a job lot from Charlie Petty of DC Kits earlier this year- any ideas? XF

No idea who made the models, but from left to right the originals seem to be Q23, Q27, Q38, Q23, Q23, Q31 (or Q35) - a typical Q-stock salad!

Apart from the Q38 it was a random purchase of the Q stock bodies. One of my friends at my local MRC was amazed to see photos of Q stick running in "salad" ;D mode

The models originate from The Little Bus Company (LBC) who occasionally dabble in trains. I bought a very warped Q27 years ago. The body was straight but the sides had bowed inwards to the extent that even the hot water method wouldn't work. I ended up by building entirely new bodysides from plasticard.
If you run two of the Q23s as one of the cars that was converted to a trailer you have an entirely accurate formation. I have a picture of a similar set.Look out for an email from me once the home pc is back in the land of the living.

(Converted) examples worked from Hornsey (for the GN Electrics scheme) and Birkenhead North, all ex-class 501.

That is correct, however my model is of DB975178/9 which were converted in 1974 and spent the all there working life on the Mersey-side network. www.flickr.com/photos/brianews/5815154298/in/photostream/ It was different from the other units as it could still work from the 3rd rail as well as batteries. The roof was "shed" like whereas the Hornsey units were flat roofed with lights fitted for working in the Thameslink tunnels XF

I love the idea of having something a little different on a model. That's probably why I love Q stock! I have several items that are a little variation on what is available. Yesterday, for instance, I cut a Lima GWR railcar body into several pieces............ I fancy the idea of doing one of the twin-sets!
Of course, if Hornby ever manage to produce a 2-BIL or 4-COR you'll be able to get away with running one on Croxley too! Variety truly is the spice of life!
Excellent work on the 501 battery vehicle too.

Looks great. Does antone know where i might be able to find some LU sub-surface stock? I've been looking into modeling the underground for some time, but only found tube stock.

Stupid me, i forgot about that. Thanks for bringing back my memory, Nigel. I appreciate it.
The only problem with Radly Models is that they don't have any C stock or D78s.

Not yet.... C stock used to be available through Little Bus Company but these have ceased. MARC models makes C stock kits from brass although I suspect these are not for the beginner. MTK used to make D stock but these ended years ago. I have already produced D stock drawings for 4mm and plan to produce a kit in a year or two.

MARC models makes C stock kits from brass although I suspect these are not for the beginner. Sweet! You wouldn't happen to have a link, would you? I have already produced D stock drawings for 4mm and plan to produce a kit in a year or two. Can't wait to see the outcome of that.

MARC models site for LTE trains is www.marcmodels.co.uk/html/lte.htmlHowever, the page doesn't seem to show up on the main site?! I have to finish the 1960ts before I can hit anything else!
