johnlinford and jimini got this one at the same time. Background: Clapham Common bandstand [Chris M] The clue version is unmodified. Looks like John Linford, just like his namesake, came out of the blocks a litle bit quicker than I!

Is it one of the crossings over the east end of the central line, maybe between Snaresbrook and South Woodford?

The extension of platforms 16 & 17 means permanently blocking off platform 18. This must have an impact on the number of TfL Rail (and some C2C) services running in and out of Liverpool Street. Absolutely right during peak hours in normal times. However in these times of COVID, with less passengers/customers and, come April/May, longer 9-car trains, I suspect the challenges that would have been expected, will be significantly less problematical. I also wonder if quicker turn around times, *perhaps with a driver of a previous service waiting at the far end of a Liverpool Street platform for the next service to arrive, have also been put into place... * I'm not saying it has, just that this may be an option considered
Ooh I dunno; from what I've seen this year, two lines are not far off their previous peak loadings. The NLL from Highbury & Islington towards Stratford is generally not far off usual loading levels, but most noticeably the line from LST to Shenfield is reflective of pre-March levels of service / patronage. Even when the Central Line's quiet at Stratford, the Shenfield platform always seems to be back to normal loadings, irrespective of the time of day that I've witnessed.

Sure one of the pros will be along shortly with the full detail, but the normal central lines have de-icing equipment on them too I think, so the RAT isn't necessarily needed for this? Those "D on / D off" signs by the platform starting signals are instructions to drivers to turn it on / off as appropriate, I think.

<<snip>> Bit late in the day but finally I've seen some evidence of this 95% dip in passenger numbers that keeps being claimed! I took a few more phone snaps on my way across town again this week. Link here. The one of Paddington at just after 6pm on Wednesday is particularly eerie! London Paddington by Jim G, on Flickr

Not a response to the previous two posts but just an anectodal observation from today's travels from me -- it does feel like the central line could do with more than 6tph at key times of the day, especially through the central section. I travelled from Oxford Circus to South Woodford at just after 1800 and social distancing was nigh on impossible, particularly from Holborn through to Leytonstone. The Bakerloo line by comparison (Padd to Oxford Circus) was empty!

In inner London, at least in normal times, you don't need a car and there are limited places to park them if you do have them (and even then this can cost quite a bit). Indeed -- when I bought my flat in South Woodford, it was an additional £12k for a parking bay!

Indeed -- I took a snap of that yesterday on my travels (key worker related). Don't have a site to host the image, but if anyone's interested drop me a PM. What has been noticeable is people's reactions to each other, particularly when I've not been able to avoid peak hours (H&C between Paddington and Kings X at 1830 yesterday for example). One person will sit down (leaving a seat's gap) but the person nearest to them scampers off elsewhere. Some frustrated / borderline angry looks kicking about too. Based on the little I've seen, the rush hour's pushing it in terms of social distancing, even while the lockdown remains in its current state, and I could well imagine tempers fraying if it gets any busier. I'm curious to see this but without a place to host the image am not sure how you can make it available here. Are you on Twitter? Flickr? Just signed up for a Flickr account (spend enough time on it; may as well contribute I guess!). Image available here: flic.kr/p/2iWwQPACheers ~ Jim.

The Bakerloo line have now started partitioning off the front third of the saloon in the driving cars, in a similar way to the DLR. Obviously these trains do not have cab side doors, so it creates a safe space for staff to access the cabs via the internal J door. On the Met, this week’s service was further revised for Amersham/Chesham trains to run fast ‘all the way’ in both directions, stopping at Wembley Park. This is the first time the Met has offered a sustained, old-school fast all day fast service since such trains were withdrawn in 2011. At weekends the previous service of Amersham trains running to Harrow and Chesham trains running to Watford remains. Indeed -- I took a snap of that yesterday on my travels (key worker related). Don't have a site to host the image, but if anyone's interested drop me a PM. The ones here (South Woodford) have had a couple of posters about the bogs being out of service kicking about in the past, so I'll have a cheeky punt on there.
