There were no messages saying anything was amiss and there was def. no 05:57 train (I know realise that JP takes "Stratford International" to mean the NR station and not the DLR station, so it allows 2 minutes to walk to the DLR) - I arrived at the station at 05:52 and there was nothing in either platform
Doing the reverse journey in the evening and again JP didn't match up. I arrived at LCY at 18:40 and was on the DLR platform by 18:52. A Bank train was due followed by a Stratford Int. train at 18:59. Knowing the latter would take 20 minutes and make me miss the 19:17 to Ashford from Stratford Int. I decided to catch the Bank train and change at Canning Town - I threw Canning Town to Stratford International into JP while on the Bank train and it told me the next DLR train would be at 19:15 from Canning Town. I gave up letting TfL plan my journey, jumped onto the Jubilee at Canning Town, hurried through Stratford and then Westfield and caught the 19:17 with about 20 seconds to spare.
I've just thrown the outbound journey into JP for the same times but for tomorrow morning (29/Sep) and Thursday (02/Oct) and I'm getting a 05.45 train with a change at Canning Town or a 05:59 train direct.

Does TfL journey planner have the correct time tables for DLR? The reason I ask is that I planned a journey for this morning from Stratford Int. to London City Airport and it gave me trains at 05:55, changing at Canning Town or 06:05 direct but there was no 05:55 train, however one did leave around 06:01 bound for LCY.
P.S. Do the train captains still set the destination displays? Woolwich Arsenal wasn't displayed until long after we'd left Stratford Int.
TIA

On the plans for TSGN franchise it states that the Uckfield line trains will be increased in length "when cascaded diesel stock available", are they referring to the Goblin's class 172s or something else? TIA Simon

Taking that in order: S Stock is due to be completed by end of 2015 377/7 by the end of 2014 378 extra cars by mid 2015 387 by early-mid 2015, however that might change if DfT take up the optional 34 extra units 345 is due to start production mid 2015 and complete by end of 2017 or early 2018 but remember there are 18 optional extra units. Bombardier I think can run 4 or 5 production lines simultaneously. So, to answer Latecomer's question, they'll probably not be overstretched with an order for LO/WA come 2017 when it's required then - unless they get the orders for TSGN 313 and 442 replacement fleets and C2C's extra stock.....

If the first of the new LO/WA stock due Q2/Q3 2017, what do Bombardier have on at the moment?
S stock Production started, due to finish ... ? 377/7 Production finished? 378 Extra car, due to finish by December 2015 387 Production started, due to finish when? 345 Production not yet started?
Hmm, given the London bias to their production, maybe they should move down south? ;-)

I have this vision of PSAs in berets making announcements in Allo Allo accents. But if the 'Train Captain' looked like Yvette............... With all on-board announcements sung by Madame Edith? Maybe not.... ;-)

Is there any way of finding out the timetables for District line S7 trains travelling to and from Richmond / Ealing Broadway? I also ask the same for S7 trains that terminate at Plaistow. I caught an S7 from Temple this afternoon on the District and it was heading for Barking. This was around 15:40. Simon

The cynical part of me says it is still often quicker to walk.... As it is between Queensway & Bayswater stations, or the Bank to Mansion House as well Sorry, I meant it in the context of walking between Blackfriars and Farringdon being quicker than using Thamelink/FCC.

Whilst it is a diagram of lines rather than a map it does reflect geography to some extent. The north south distance at the eastern end than the west. Before Thameslnk reopened it was usually quicker to walk from Farringdon to Blackfriars than go round on the Circle. The cynical part of me says it is still often quicker to walk....

Probably a stupid question but I assume the electricity in the rails is switched off on the walk Not wanting negative publicity, they positively will turn the power off...... They've even promised to leave the boy with his finger in the hole so the water doesn't get in.

Given the possible number of units quoted, what would the Northern do with 50 new trains? Could this release stock to another line, either to top up the Jubilee or go to say, the Bakerloo?

Have Crossrail's operating hours been disclosed? Will there be / could there be a 24hr service through the core?

There's a load of 18M long articulated vehicles sitting in field somewhere, with a little bit of DIY magic you might get them running up and down the tunnels.....
Schrittmacher anyone?

I think this refers to gas, water, electricity supplies that cross the track bed but are not shown on current plans. XF Or underground railways..... ...that may or may not appear on Ordinance Survey maps....? ;-)

bicbasherI seem to have read (Modern Railways) that the station had to be designed with wider stairways than usual to handle match day traffic. I did Google the station, but information seems to be lacking, especially when construction will commence. We shall see in due course! The other thought is.... is there expected to be an increase in passengers changing at Surrey Quays from trains from Surrey Canal Road to trains heading to New Cross Gate and beyond (thereby avoiding zone 1) and if so, could Surrey Quays cope?

It does make me wonder if they'll just do a Drayton Park and close on matchdays as is the case when Arsenal are at home. Then again, South Bermondsey is 4tph also and remains open. Doesn't South Bermondsey get non-stopped at match kicking out times?

Given the planned service timetable shown on the Crossrail press release (quoted below), at what point in time will trains to/from the west actually be able to access the Crossrail core? How will the trains based in the east reach Old Oak Common for maintenance? How much maintenance can/will be done at Ilford? Will they have to run via the NLL to get there and back if they can't use the core?

Simon (Wow, that was a lot of questions, I'll go and have a rest now....)

Just heard that TfL have put out to tender for new trains to run on the West Anglia Inner Suburban & also an add on for the Gobs & DC. Anyone have or know where to get more detailed info? Thanks Dazz285
The Rail Engineer has an article about the Bombardier Aventra v2, the replacement for the Electrostar
How long are the un-electrified bits of the GOBLIN?
