surely these trains are not going to be scrapped once they are taken out of service? Why has the new TOC rejected them? Leasing costs too high? There is no way in hell they will be scrapped once they are taken out of service. First/MTR have rejected the 707s because it is cheaper for them to order an entire new fleet of trains. When the 707s were ordered, demand for rolling stock was higher, therefore the leasing costs from its respective ROSCO is also higher. In addition to cost, I believe the 707s fall short with respect to what First/MTR want in terms of capacity, although I'm unsure of the specifics. It is a shame as this is completely inefficient in my opinion. Although from what I understand, the 707s aren't exactly great in terms of specification.

Goodge Street is part of Northern Cover Group C which also includes Tottenham Court Road, Warren Street and Camden Town (but not Mornington Crescent which is Cover Group A), if they're short staffed its obvious why they'd decide to shut Goodge Street rather than the other three. Indeed, staff from Goodge Street were being used to keep Warren Street open. I don't know for sure but I've assumed the exit-only plan for September 2017-October 2018 would be due to lift works, probably two at a time. Not many people enter at Goodge Street during the morning peak anyway but you do get loads of people exiting the station, staff are already used to control the lifts manually and assist customer flow. With only two lifts in service, it'll start blocking back downstairs and having the lifts sent down empty as soon as they've deposited customers upstairs, this will help it not get too crowded. If it was for lift work, wouldn't the posters stuck inside the station simply say that the reason was lift refurbishment? At the moment the posters are giving no reasons whatsoever. When the lifts at Covent Garden were replaced (refurbished?), it was made clear that this was the reason.

Did something happen earlier today at around 11AM? I was travelling from Southfields to West Brompton. A westbound train at SFS remained at the platform for quite some time, however no delays reported. Same thing at East Putney.
Slightly later in the day when coming back, an eastbound train went through Notting Hill Gate out of service, in addition to an Ealing Broadway bound train then arriving on the westbound. I then saw another train out of service enter HSK platform 3. Still no delays reported on the District line. Some more diversions at ECT too I believe.

What is the problem? The unita are out most days, just not in service. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong, but recent overhead line issues on the GEML have been a contributing factor.

This closure is a major PITA for me in Southfields! I feel sure that in BR days passengers were offered an alternative mainline service when the District was not running. Simon Closest thing would be SWT from Wimbledon to CLJ and then Victoria line to Victoria.

None. People on the RailUK forum are almost arguing about it. I personally doubt it will run this month.

Currently at work so having some difficulty in working out what time to leave to catch the train and where. Is it currently running on time so that it can leave Upminster on time at 1635?

Why do the digital voice announcements need to have so much information? In Paris, the announcements cover only the stations as they enter and some key information (such as at the end of the line, skipped stops, mind the gap, and branches). It seems that in Paris, maps and signage are responsible for providing interchange information. How do the systems compare for ease of access by visually impaired people? Indeed. The CIS on the Paris Metro is trash compared to the LU.

Yes heard this on a number of units too. Almost like a dragging/vibrating sort of thing.

Crew reliefs etc. Normal timetable can run meaning that all the stock and crew end up in the right place. Turning short requires a special timetable, and reduces flexibility if further stations open (which they did). Understood. Makes sense.

Why not detrain at Baker Street and run empty to Charing Cross, or reverse at Waterloo?

When all is running to timetable, it won't be needed. It's only when trains ar running out of order or delayed that it will be useful. The biggest issue is when trains block the platform waiting for a late / missing crew relief. Currently, this means that trains from the Wimbledon branch have no choice but to sit and wait. At least from when the new crossover is commissioned, there will be the flexibility of using both eastbound platforms. Interesting. Trains do sit idle between West Brompton and ECT quite often though.

rincew1nd: Posts split from the thread about the new Overground trains:
For context I'm adding this quote:
The 710 will have walk through but no access to the cab which is the same as the 378's
All text below this line is the original post with no editing by staff:
Am I missing something? The 378s don't have gangways so what do you mean by through cab connections?

Is there still quite a while to go until the crossover at Embankment is removed and replaced with the scissors crossover between there and Westminster?

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but looking at the track diagram it doesn't show a scissors crossover at CNW. I thought there was going to be a massive one there?

I wonder if the red topped valances are a legacy of the original units which had all red valances (and were promptly fixed after someone on here brought it to prjb's attention IIRC) Which I think looked the best by far!

I think Crossrail and the Central line are very comparable to the RER A and Line 1 in Paris. RER A trains have transverse seating and I personally think this limits the ability to clear the stations efficiently, as whistlekiller2000 says.
Would be nice to see the final interior of the 345s soon.
