If it runs, the first Class 345 will be arriving at Ilford Depot (w/c 5th December).
Testing will commence shortly on the GEML mainline. Almost certainly on the Ilford - Witham test slot. A first opportunity to see the future as Aventras will be flooding into WA and GA lines over the next 4 years.
I saw this info somewhere else but did not share it here because I thought that special train schedules etc., was not allowed here on DD.
Anyway, thanks, I am hoping to able to see it in on its way, providing that it sticks to the scheduled time!
I'm undecided where though. It might be Stratford, it might be lineside near to Ilford depot (from the car park near to Farm Foods). I've filmed from here before, its not on railway property but passing trains temporarily block the view.
I am guessing as it is a train for the National Rail network with overhead equipment that it will be arriving under it's own steam rather than pulled by another train?
Nope, it'll be coupled up to something (the move from Derby to Old Dalby was a class 67 IIRC) - It'd have problems leaving Old Dalby without a diesel propelling it. I think that even without large parts of it's route unelectrified, there would be issues with sourcing a sufficiently trained driver. There are a few points where the locomotive could be detached and left to move under it's own power, but I'd be surprised if that were done.

Did it leave in the end, or has it been delayed until another day?
It was cancelled. Realtimetrains says it was due to "a problem at the depot" but those delay/cancellation reasons aren't always entirely true.
Well, whatever the problem was, (whether with the loco, the unit itself, the train crew, or the trackwork), it must have been either "at the depot" or "on the road", and if the train never left the depot it is more likely to have been the former.
