Particularly given the damage it caused on the way back from Epping recently. Serious delays to the Central line resulted. HI this statement is wrong about the cravens unit I cannot say any more than that sorry FISH7373

Most metals oxidise to a greater or lesser degree, the best known of course is iron which breaks down to iron oxide (rust). Aluminium also oxidises but only the surface which is open to the atmosphere, aluminium oxide is a dirty white colour and this gives the impression of white paint. The green patina you sometimes see on bronze statues is also oxidisation, even alloys are not impervious. A lot also depends on the quality and type of the metal/alloy used this is why the doors on some tube stock appear to be whiter than the rest of the car. Are you a science teacher by any chance? As it happens, I was about to say much the same thing as you. How would LU have gone about making them silver again? HI take them to the cleaning shed and acid clean them back to silver again that's how they did the units FISH7373

Friday 26 - Sunday 28 September – End of THE Tube
HI copyed and pasted from EOR website On 30 September 1994 the last tube train left Ongar Station. Now, twenty years later, we're bringing it back!
Working with the Cravens Heritage Trains, a tube train will once again be on our rails hauled by Diesel 'Schoma' locomotives. This is the first time that a 'Schoma' has hauled a passenger train - making this a truly unique event.
Alongside this, we will have Met 1 and a range of London Transport wagons to create a unique display of steam with Tube at Ongar!
Special fares apply - tickets on sale now! FISH7373

If that is the way the Craven Unit will get to the EOR. HI yes cravens is going by rail and today checked her for tommrow out on the test track FISH7373

During the winter storms just gone, one of the 38TS units (class 483) on the isle of white was flooded. I'm guessing that it will become another spares donor, as it'll probably be very difficult and uneconomic to repair! Ok thanks for infor FISH7373

There's no chance of either of those because there are only the two Track Recording motors and the two motor cars of Cravens Heritage Trains of 1960 Tube Stock, and the only 1983 Tube Stock left are three units at South Harrow, which haven't moved for some 15 years. Last time I had an IoW update a couple of months ago, there were no plans to replace the 1938 Tube Stock. From the horses' mouths (note plural ) today - No plans to replace the existing trains. With one 'flooded' unit not fixed, there are 4 operational units. Hi reganorak im lost with this sorry. With one 'flooded' unit not fixed FISH7373

I would have thought that visibility from the single cab would have been an issue, especially in a tube tunnel. HI not if they are driving from the blunt end which they do. FISH7373

The fact that they only have one cab could be the reason for operating them in pairs, with the cabs 'outward'. Not always operate them in pairs with the cabs outward they do run them one loco ether end of engineers train I have seen this. FISH7373

I don't know about the Schomas but LUL locomotives always seem to run in pairs for operational convenience, not because they carry different equipment. It tends to be the case of 'two is one and one is none'. It sometimes also has to the do with the number of compressors being carried. HI It is not true about number of compressors on a battery loco because they have two compressors to a loco, and don't forget no run rounds on the line and in a possession they have to go back and forwards to unload. and I have read a report on that battery locos are at there limit on pulling heavy trains. If they are to run in pairs does this mean that each one will carry different equipment? Sounds like quite a complex job. Are they the best vehicles to start with, even? That was my thought on the matter. It would be a complete rebuild as they are diesel hydraulic, if they were diesel electric it would be a simple matter of replacing the engine with a battery pack. Yes a complete rebuild no diesel engine just batterys and traction motors FISH7373

HI From the OTM magarzine fourteen schoma diesel locomotives obtained in the 1990s for shunting and haulage but under-used due to their emission levels are being converted to traction / battery power only. PS the diesel engines are being removed. FISH7373
