Someone I know returned from one of the Aldwych station tours today and his photos showed the 1972 set in the platform at Aldwych.
I said "That's interesting to see it there, considering it technically blocks one of the fire escape routes."
and he said "The guides said that it came last November for filming and now they can't get it to work."
So if it has failed, have they just not kept up with maintenance cycles? - will take a Battery Loco to get it out now.

It's very warm and damp downstairs at Aldwych, if the unit isn't used much, it probably wouldn't take long for electrical contacts to become fouled up. It'll be interesting to see if it has to be dragged back to Northfields, or wherever it goes for maintenance.

I'm not sure which tour your friend was on, but certainly this afternoon visitors were simply informed that it has broken down, not that it came in from November as we know that back in November it wasn't to be seen! I don't quite know the specific details of how or why it broke down, all I know is that it can't be moved at present, much to the benefit of the tour!

I really hope the set is looked after. It is (aside from the horrid red fronts) a proper 70s train.

Could have been some very inaccurate paraphrasing on his behalf.
Thanks for the confirmation anyway.

I've asked the question on facebook. It may be a motor-related problem, apparently.

I wonder if it's Boris' new "24 hour tube operation" policy that's stopping them retrieving it, because a few hours gap in the service at night should suffice for a movement.

I doubt that would be having an effect seeing as it isn't in use yet! It is more likely a combination of there being no space (or time) to work on it at the moment. Might it be the case that it gets taken to Acton at some point to receive some TLC off the back of the 72TS refresh? I know that @luacton has been talking a lot about refurbishing various bits of 72TS recently, so they may try to get something out of that.

No you're probably right. I know Acton Works is a little full at the present moment.

No you're probably right. I know Acton Works is a little full at the present moment. You would be correct. I can ask around, but the chances are if it were to come down to acton, it would most likely be towards the end of the project (unless its needed for a film or something)
