I cannot help but think of the cost of this exercise. Why were these vehicles not disposed of with the rest of the fleet when withdrawn. HI they were going to be converted to run on the Piccadilly line and going away to be refurbed, to have double doors instead of single doors, they were stored on several locations on the underground and all stored 83 tube stock belonged to the Piccadilly line and to increase fleet stock and when the plans fell through one by one they were scrapped and south harrow was the last of them . Provably gear box noise on the drive from the traction motor FISH7373 No gearbox as such is fitted, two motors positioned back to back drive directly into each one of the original Schoma axles via short cardan shafts. yes thats right the traction motors are frame mounted. FISH7373

Hi to your answer about this I have the information out of the traffic circular, D78 and 73 t/stock can go up the Rayners lane branch because there under or 110m, there is a measuring track circuit on the line if a long engineering trains is longer they have to operate the long train running plungers , which are position and Ealing common platform at signal WM22 two hand plungers one at schoma loco cab height and other one at battery loco height, next set is at signal WM20/21 two the same as signal WM22 but with extra one at ground height, there is no track wheel treadles or plungers, the S7 are not signed off to go up the Rayners lane branch my interfere with the signalling on the line, it’s in the traffic circular but cannot publish it, so hope you can understand this, thanks FISH7373

314/866 is a Guards Key and was used on all stocks with Guards panels, except the R stock, as mentioned above.
In addition the A stock had an another modified key when OPO came in, this being a combined Guards Position/Control Key which was offset, this being given number 314/1803, as the heaters were still controlled from the redundant Guards panels which were blanked over except for the car heaters, this ceased use when the stock was refurbished.
All modern stocks from 86 stock to the the 96's use the RKL 220 key only, the D and 73's use the Control Key 314/867 and the RKL 220.(the 73's lost the use of Reverser key 314/868 when refurbished) I also remember both the 73's and D's had guards keys used when the Guard operated the doors from the rear cab, these both became redundant and switches blanked off when the stocks were converted to OPO operation.
the S stock and 09's use another key for the Control switch Flipping heck I worked with 73 stock from introduction through refurb and until 1/1/2011.
I thought the 73 stock kept their reverser key up until the present time, but seeing this written down here I am beginning to doubt my own mind. I'm as sure as I can be that RKL 220 released the reverser barrel lock to enable the reverser key to be inserted and moved.
Please someone either confirm this or put me right - I won't be able to sleep now until I know!
HI 73 t/stock use a RKL 220 key to unlock reverser barrel. and when you put control key in its linked by a rod to the guards switches as well. FISH7373

As has been metioned here, the '73s are getting new displays. Does anyone know if it would be possible to obtain one of the old ones, whether they could accept input from another device (Raspbery Pi GPIO pins for example) and what would be required in that, what characters could be displayed and will I go mental trying to make it work? HI the old ones we take down go off to be MODED to LED lights sorry no spare ones FISH7373

Who is manufacturing the 73TS ones as the ones on the 96TS are from Focon and the 95TS from Ketech, so they are different manufacturers, although overall the probably share a common design, but operationally they are not interchangeable between stocks, I think the 96Ts actually have smaller set numbers than the 95TS ones, but just maybe an illusion. HI 1973 destination are not interchangeable with other rolling stock and ketech are doing the mod to the destination indicator upgrade. FISH7373

I like them, but I have one bugbear, which doesn't appear to be the case on 1995 and 1996 stocks - why is the text for the train number bigger than the text for the Destination? HI OK i will find out why the train number bigger. may be for line control to see better but i will find out thanks FISH7373

I am assuming that the control system for them remains the same (ie the toblerone hasn't been changed), certainly I doubt that the codes will have been changed around, most likely just a new physical display, and a new way of controlling it? HI the control system remains the same. FISH7373

Looks like all three stocks are getting the upgrade then. Whilst we are discussing upgrades - I wonder if the 72 and 73 stocks will receive LED tail lights? I can't imagine all the ones from the A and C stocks got binned? HI 1973 tail lights have been changed to LED tail lights years ago and Destination’s blinds are next to be MODED. FISH7373
