Hey all, just seen old stock sat in the carpark at south harrow.
I have a picture I will upload when I am at home.
I saw excavators on friday when I was on the train, so I guess it had to be dug out.

I wonder why they've decided to get rid of these now? Previous discussions on the units are here and here, as this is a dramatic change in direction from previously a new thread seems appropriate.

In fact, looking at the siding on the way home, it was completely empty.

I though the reason for the skids would have been due to the wheels being seized, but the clip seems to show the cars being pulled. Where skids used then to prevent damage to the running line? Or even assist when the crane operation?

To me those look less like wheel skates and more like trollies or road/railer trailers.

To me those look less like wheel skates and more like trollies or road/railer trailers. You are right, when I commented I could not get the video to work it said sign in to watch. It was the remarks of others calling them skids that made me say skates but you are right they look like mini trailers.

Some other photos have appeared on Facebook under 'UK TRAINS ON TRUCKS'. Thanks to the Yerkes influence, Underground trains are always carried on "trucks" Although the last picture in the LR set shows a Piccadilly Line train calling at the station, the line through South Harrow must have been closed whilst the cars were being winched off the track, actually in the platform as far as I can tell. Was other work going on elsewhere on the branch that weekend?

Was other work going on elsewhere on the branch that weekend? No '83 Stock were moved from the sidings while trains were running. The lifting within the car park occurred on Monday. Track relaying was happening from Hanger Lane junction towards Ealing Broadway WB.

HI cannot see video says This video is private. FISH7373 Thats unusual as others can see it. IIRC if it says it is private there is a box somewhere that you can click on to watch it on Youtube (its embedded on here).

I cannot help but think of the cost of this exercise. Why were these vehicles not disposed of with the rest of the fleet when withdrawn.

I cannot help but think of the cost of this exercise. Why were these vehicles not disposed of with the rest of the fleet when withdrawn. HI they were going to be converted to run on the Piccadilly line and going away to be refurbed, to have double doors instead of single doors, they were stored on several locations on the underground and all stored 83 tube stock belonged to the Piccadilly line and to increase fleet stock and when the plans fell through one by one they were scrapped and south harrow was the last of them . All the 1983 moves from withdrawal to the final scrapping will be in the September Underground News.
