There's been some mention of the new destination displays on the fronts (and backs, of course) of 1995 stock trains; are they coming to the 1973 stock as well, only I thought I caught a glimpse of a 73 with a swanky new display at Acton Town, though I didn't get chance for a proper look. I may have been imagining things, or perhaps I missed an earlier mention here.

I saw one come in to Ickenham today with a nice new front... I'm 99% sure I've seen them on the '96s as well.

Looks like all three stocks are getting the upgrade then. Whilst we are discussing upgrades - I wonder if the 72 and 73 stocks will receive LED tail lights? I can't imagine all the ones from the A and C stocks got binned?

The 96s are definitely getting them, you're quite right, they all looked very modern at Stratford today - although I actually find the lettering quite small, so whether they're an improvement from my POV, I can't be sure. (P.S. Nice tux )

I can't remember if the third tail - light (the old stabling light) was a pygmy bulb or LED.

Would be very interesting to see these new DMIs on the 73TS. I imagine they look hugley different from the old ones. With the 95 and 95TS I probably needed to double take a few times to actually realise that there were new DMIs since they don't look too different from the old ones.

Cool but is there really any point? Especially when the rolling stock will be replaced by next decade?

Cool but is there really any point? Especially when the rolling stock will be replaced by next decade? Presumably the existing units are life-expired? If the displays are common between the 73/95/96 stocks it's cheaper no doubt to buy a large batch - if the 73s are scrapped first they can always use their units as spares!

The 1973 stock won't be going anywhere for at least 10 years so I think it's a good investment. As stated the displays will be used as spares if the situation arises.
A lot of modifications are done quite late in some stocks life. For example in the last 10 years of the A stock service new LED tail lights were fitted and new wiper housings provided. It appears at least as if the later went with the trains......

I am assuming that the control system for them remains the same (ie the toblerone hasn't been changed), certainly I doubt that the codes will have been changed around, most likely just a new physical display, and a new way of controlling it?

I like them, but I have one bugbear, which doesn't appear to be the case on 1995 and 1996 stocks - why is the text for the train number bigger than the text for the Destination?
