flippyff - thank you for this interesting post; 66 box wagons seems a lot by comparison with what they used to have (and may have now), although the system hasn't expanded significantly.

I am amazed that an official TfL document references TubePrune - a magnificent resource indeed, but not something that even TubePrune would expect any contracting entity to rely on!

Wow, I wonder whether anyone has done a rigorous check of that vs. the LU Gauging Standard! And when in the process those showing interest have to buckle down to the 'real' documents.

why do they need all them wagons when they have GB rail freight. Because "The wagons would need to be smaller than Network Rail's similar wagons to allow for LG1 gauging."

FISH7373 Why would LU write out a tender in the Official Journal of the EU if they are not spending any money? It's the standard way to request bids from suppliers. The intent doesn't get more official than this.

The key here is "greater load capacity" - with the large volume of track renewals coming up there are cost savings to be gained from moving more material in the existing engineers train capacity. I think it's mainly the spoil and ballast wagons (modified Turbot design) that are scheduled for replacement, with the other ones augmenting the existing fleet of rail and GP wagons.

Dan

seems an earlier order valued at £20.1 million has been awarded to Kirow for supply of rolling stock to deliver modular s&c and track panels, new crane(s) and modular wagons
