It shouldn't be forgotten that the Victoria line took over existing infrastructure. As stated in David Connor's Tribute to the Victoria Line FINSBURY PARK - Uses former Edwardian GNPBR and GNCR platform tunnels Indeed - but the photos appear not to be of GN&C days, or of the GN&C line.

Actually sawb I never considered that. Thankfully I found what I was looking for there: Are you sure about that? They look like the Picc. platforms - I'd need to dig around a bit, but I'm 90% that there wasn't a gradient change in the station tunnel on the GN&C platforms. EDIT: there are other clues - such as the style of the illuminated sign and use of the Victoria Line - these can't be GN&C, as the rounded aluminium-ish signs didn't come in until/with the Vic.

I have been thinking about how train numbering (set numbers) have evolved over the years. I would appreciate any comments that anybody has regarding the historical aspect of train numbering, and how and why numbering systems have changed. Are you interested in when lines renumbered into programme-machine numbers? A final general point - I'm aware that train numbers do not contain the digits 8 and 9 due to the binary nature of the programme machines. However, quite a lot of lines now use solid state computer technology, and so can presumably cope with 8's and 9's. So why not use them again? ..ummm... tradition? some circuitry [1] can't cope with 8 and 9? TTO programmes not able to cope with 8 and 9 so they would need to be individually inserted into the galley. [1] PM TD emulators, principally but also (possibly) slow-speed scanning on the Picc.

Try this link - feel free to use the zoom and wait for the image to render on the screen. Drayton Park is to the left and Stroud Green to the right - the bit after the long bridge has been inverted relative to how it was printed.

Older maps show a wide space between that curved western road and the ramp. Between the tennis courts and the present formation is a narrow crescent-shaped wooded area: I thought that was the ramp. Bear with me, as it will take quite a bit of fiddling around in the background to sort out the image and hosting it, but I will put up the appropriate civils survey from 1944 of that bit of line.

There were going to be sseparate platforms and the LPTB line would cross over the main line on a long bridge.
Look at the diagrams.
Glad there's still copies of it around (I'm one of the authors).

I'm pretty sure that's how the WTT was arranged before the LPTB. I'll have a quick check in the library upstairs when I get chance.

I've been sorting out a few photographs over the past few days; these are all of the original linens that were used to produced the illuminated glass diagrams for the signal cabins: Moorgate NCL: linkCamden Town: linkLiverpool Street CLR: linkThese all date form the late 20s - 30s - Camden is after January 1934 (because of the greek letters), Liverpool Street is after the moveable diamonds were removed and before the extension, Moorgate NCL is after the reframing. Enjoy.

Also, I think that this is a bit contrary to one of the forum rules about serious incidents? No, you're good. It's an empty and a self-contained incident. As a railwayperson I would not call this a serious incident.

I suspect the forum staff have only ever been to one preserved railway outside the London zones. Possibly so - as hinted at upthread I was permanent staff on one of the preserved railways.

The request was sent to me asking that the thread be locked or erased - I've been away from the computer for most of the day (a very rare event, and in fact the first time in a couple of months), so this is the first time I've really had to action the request.
This thread will remain locked - I am currently investigating the 'domes' as I have seen something written about them recently. When I have something to report back, I will.
Please do not use threads to debate Freedom of Information requests; if a contributor feels that there is a problem, contact the Forum Staff.

I have no qualms that upload their images and would like for them to go far and wide. I have qualms with people who seem to have a problem when an individual wishes for somebody to simply adhere to polite requests that are reasonable and to expected, alongside legislation. Although it is no defence, do not forget plain and simple ignorance. There may (unlikely in this case) be no malice aforethought. Ultimately, the onus lies on the copyright holder to protect the work - simple things like embedding an automatically popping up copyright notice or subtle watermarking are the best defence. In the case in point the Squarewheels watermarking 'worked' - there was no commercial gain from this activity - which, sadly is normally the only time you can get the 'powers that be' involved in a sense of restitution at a court. I've found the best policy is not one of high moral indignation but one of negotiation - that way everybody wins.

That complete lack of respect is partly why I don't really "share" much these days with other enthusiasts or "communities" because you can guarantee there is always going to be somebody there who will want to take take take for their own benefit. Perhaps you have had your fingers burnt; perhaps not. However, there is a legion of photographers out there who are willing to web up their pictures and are more than willing to have their photographs used in publications, provided they are asked. If you don't have the pictures out there then no-one will see them.

I've also managed to dig out a signalling plan, just after the electrification and there are umpteen spares, so it would indicate that there was significant layout simplification.

There is a scissors crossover at the platform ends in the 1894 town plan.

A station stop at TGrn EB would materially affect Arnos reversers and (bear in mind that I'm away from me notes <hem hem Peason> I suspect it might end up creating a need to step back at Cockfosters. T5 bound trains might be able to stop WB.
