His real name isn't Gully Foyle, is it? (Tiger Tiger by Alfred Bester).

Call me tasteless, what a pile of tosh! Synasthesia is in fact a very real condition. The stories I've heard about it I find quite fascinating and frankly this story does not surprise me.

Likewise. Synaesthetic people have very interesting neural crossovers.

Without doubt the most ridiculous item I have ever seen quoted in this place.

Likewise. Synaesthetic people have very interesting neural crossovers. Another example of this is sounds / colours. There are enough permutations to keep a host of neuroscientists gainfully employed for quite a considerable time.

I have heard similar stuff said about various musical keys - that C major for instance evokes different images, tastes and smells from A major. I think that you would have to be extremely musical, drunk or drugged (or all three)to become aware of these effects!

It's to do with which parts of the palate are hit by words/morphemes, which also trigger taste sensations. Synaethesia is very common but I can image trainspotting would soon dull my senses.
