I travel fairly regularly on the Heathrow branch and spotted yesterday that at South Ealing at least, on the fast lines, the dot matrix signs were actually 'working', giving info on up to four trains at a time. They were not working last week so I suppose there must have been a software upgrade over the past weekend. Those on the Local lines were not active, though.
Does anyone know whether these indicators are now working west of South Ealing, or on the Rayners Lane/Uxbridge line, please?
Thanks.

RDM For about a month now I've noticed the displays working at Hounslow Central and Hounslow East.

They are working at Alperton and (subject to confirmation) Park Royal and North Ealing. As of last week, nothing west of Alperton. On the WB at South Harrow, a destination pops up when a train approaches but the EB one still shows "City & Eastbound Trains" with no timings - really useful (not). Nothing yet on the refurbished Uxbridge line stations as far as I am aware, although the dot matrix indicators at Uxbridge 'repeat' the heritage indicators as far as I am aware.

Is this tied in with the ongoing replacement of programme machines, I wonder?

Thanks for responses. The last time I heard, Earls Court Regulating Room's venerable programme machines were still in valiant service! I have often wondered how it is that up to now the TDs on the branches have been dormant but a well-known mobile phone app can provide the relevant information currently, including all roads on four-tracked sections. I imagine the app somehow gets a feed from Trackernet but I know not how, as it is not available to the interweb generally so far as I am aware.

Ah, yes - thanks. I'd missed that connection. I use the app far more often than I do the website.

All the programme machines on the Piccadilly have been replaced by a electronic PLC. This also includes West Kensington, Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Acton Town on the District. Also on the Picc the TD has been superseded by a system called CTFS its a train following system (think the C stands for Central) but this still gives issues at major junctions i.e Acton Town. I don't know if on the Picc the new signs are fed from CTFS or Trackernet but on our line they are going to fed via Trackernet until the new signalling comes in one day this century.

Thanks DSOM. That explains how it is now possible for the platform TDs to operate fully (errors and exceptions omitted!). My previous information re the programme machines was obviously out of date.

They have only been changed in the last 18 months to 2 years but to be honest the old equipment is far more reliable.
