An unusual stop on The Avocet Line (Exeter-Exmouth) would be Lympstone Commando which is a request stop for soldiers or people with business in the army camp. May I respectfully point out that Lymstone Commando is not an Army Camp or is it a stop for soldiers. Royal Marine Commandos are not soldiers but part of the Royal Navy. I hope you never meet a Royal Marine and call him a soldier.

I also remember back in the early 90s just after the "Company Plan was brought in. I was doing my late turn at Croxley. At about 1730 hrs there was a a snowfall that started and just went on and on. We had a N/B that managed to get to Watford but that was the last. A bit later it came back, pulled out of Croxley and came to halt about 200 yards south. A received a call from the L/C requesting I go and see what was going on. As the station was single manned I had to ask one of my regular customers to tell potential passengers there was no service. It transpired that the extremely heavy snow had bought some trees down one of which had got tangled up under the train which was going nowhere. The driver and I had to evacuate to train and escort the passengers back to Croxley. There were no more trains until about 1000 hrs the following day. During the night I had a visit from the ERU and the Met Line vegetation control team plus later a catering unit. What a night that was. I finished my previous day's late turn at about 1000 hrs the following day.

Further to my earlier post I seem to recall that the onl stations that were open on Boxing Day at the north end of the Met were Northwood, and Ricky. I don't think anywhere else was open.

I must admit despite the fact I joined in 89 I never worked on Boxing day. When I was based on the Met neither of the stations I worked at were open on the 26th (Watford or Croxley). When I moved to the Northern I was based at Goodge Street which in those days was also shut. Naturally when I finally moved to the LTM they were never open on the 26th either. I only ever worked once on the 26th that was when I moved to NX. I still wonder if it's worth the North end of the Met being open on the 26th even now?

I worked Christmas day 1969 in the ticket office at Whitechapel 1900-2400; 5 hours no meal relief needed. The service only ran Whitechapel to Putney Bridge. Had to get a taxi both ways from Plaistow. It was the only Christmas Day I ever worked although later as a Depot Clerk at Parsons Green I took the time book and timesheets home to Upminster so I could have a short Boxing Day when the time sheets had to be in. All manual in those days as was the ticket office accounts. May I ask if you remember how busy you were on Christmas Day as when I joined LUL as a Booking Clerk I spent my first Christmas at Watford Met doing the late turn on Christmas Eve. I can still remember that I took on the window about £10 for the whole shift right up until close of traffic. Then as per the procedure my Special Christmas Staff Taxi turned up and took me home all the way to Milton Keynes that definitely cost much more than I took. Same next year. However when I tried to book the staff taxi, my GSM asked how much I had taken the previous year when I told him he said " Close early and get you last train from Watford Junction. So I shut at I think 2130 and went home.

As a former stn supervisor and a member of the LT Museum staff I visited Brompton Rd Stn on a couple of occasions. One was when we took a German TV Crew down there and pointed out to them that this was were the London Anti Aircraft guns were controlled from, even showed them the maps that were still on the wall. They found it very interesting (said in a German Accent)

Arnos Grove is slightly tricky as it is not in Arnos Grove but in Bowes Rd. Arnos Grove is a rd on the other side of Arnos Pk. It runs from Morton Way to The Green

I should have noticed the roof to the stairs is different to Watford's. I should have recognised Royal Oak. I did work there once or twice doing meal relief (LOL) on a Sunday afternoon.

As a former Met Man I have little knowledge of the Central Line. So out of curiosity I have just watched a video of the above branch. Can anybody give me some information about it eg. What was the journey time, end to end, how many passengers would use it, what were the operating hours etc.
Thank you
Rob H

If it is Putney Bridge then it brings back memories of a sordid night in a hotel very close by. Sorry off thread

For something different how about Goodge Street, busy during peaks, ticks over outside those hrs. Sundays is a bit quieter however it is a lift station so it will give you a good chance to operate the lifts. One of the beauties of Goodge St when I worked there was that it was closed on Boxing Day as were all the other stations that had I worked at. Academic now though. The big disadvantage of working at GST was that the GSM and DSMs were based upstairs so you had to be on your toes. Probably different now

Is "Sarah Siddons" and the "Heritage Train" owned by the LTM? One of the items on my "bucket list" is to see SS close up at least or better still ride the train behind her. I've tried Googling periodically to find out where she may be out for a run or even on display at e.g. Acton but to no avail. Where can I get this info? I had the great privilege of actually having a ride on "Sarah Siddons" I was a regular Coach steward on the "Steam On The Met" events and was asked if I would like to travel from Amersham to Neasden depot on board. Take it from me it was quite an experience. I would imagine very few people have enjoyed that experience. I was also a member of the supervisory team at the LT Museum for 6 years so enjoyed many privileges that others would "give their right arm for"

I can thoroughly recommend the Euston tour. As a former employee of the LTM and also former Stn Supervisor I had the privilege to take a German TV crew around a number of the closed stns and other sites not all open to the public. The Euston tour has a lot of interesting posters to be seen. I will say no more as it will spoil the tour.

Perhaps there is a concern about not getting it right on the MONDAY morning and upsetting all the Mon-Frid 9 to 5 passengers (sorry Customers) who live in Metroland
