Surely if the line was bought "as is" then it is the owner's prerogative to dispose of any assets that are no longer required. I don't see the need for implications of impropriety.

Having recently become a daily user of the 345s, I've seen several instances of people wondering why the doors aren't opening and then someone standing in front of the button gives it a push. No doubt regular users will get used to this.
I have noticed, though that not all the doors close at the same time. Given that there isn't a close button as on the 315s, is there some kind of automated feature in use, or does one pair of doors per car close after the others for the benefit, or frustration, of runners?

This has been a very provocative (can't think of a better word at present) trial. The idea came from drivers who have attended the two-day "Hello London" course. TfL are determined (at the moment) to continue to the end of the four week period and then review the results - hopefully a drop in "slips, trips and falls" on buses. The items I've published on our Intranet have resulted in more comments than any other in the 18 months that the Intranet has been available. All have been passed on to TfL - actually a single individual who is very busy at the moment!

I heard an announcement while waiting at Star Lane this evening to the effect that some trains serving Tower Gateway would be "two cars" while essential maintenance is carried out on trains. Perhaps a fault has been found on a number of units that requires them to be stopped until rectified.

Does anyone know how far the track extends beyond the shutters?

This battery version seems to be the best option so far, although I'm sure there's a place for the DEMU version once they've been tried in service. You have to admire the optimism of the team behind this project and given the recent headlines about reopening closed lines, these could yet have a significant part to play. People just have to get over the snobbery of "they're not brand new" as they could be lucky to have any trains at all!

I do try! Trouble is many trains will arrive at Stratford full from the West End, so I'll need to check the ones that start at Liverpool Street. Time will tell!

Whatever the cause, the situation at Stratford is not particularly great, not helped by "way out" signs being illuminated when the way out is not being used at such, i.e. platforms 6 and 8 western stairs. I'm sure it's not impossible to have switchable signage to direct people to keep left and use the "one way" system that is imposed during the PM peak. And now that the 17:17 is also a 345, I'm no longer guaranteed a seat so have to stand all the way to Romford. So much for progress indeed!

What a coincidence! Yesterday I had my first eastbound ride on the District from West Ham since the D stock went. At Dagenham East the front doors, with due warning, did not open. I was going to pose a question on this, but the first post has answered it already!

I can't help noticing that the final application of the friction brakes on S stock results in high pitched squealing as the train comes to a halt. Is this a result of lack of heat in the friction brakes as most of the work is done by regen.? Is any work ongoing to reduce what must be quite a nuisance for residents near stations?

Thanks for the information. The cameras are certainly numerous as well as being suspended from unusually substantial fixtures.

When travelling home from Stratford recently I've noticed that each platform served by TfL Rail has been fitted with a black and green cable just below the edge of the platform coping stones. Does anyone know what this is for?
Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the comments. I wouldn't be surprised if a future Mayor won on the promise of a fully accessible Underground!!! There won't be much else to promise after frozen fares and zero emissions!

I've been a fairly regular user of the Central Line from Newbury Park westwards (and back) for some years and with all the recent fuss about wheelchairs on buses I began to notice the wide variation in distance between the car floor and platform at various stations. Aside from the difficulty that someone in a wheelchair would have in reaching the platform, (with a few exceptions as on car diagrams) I would be interested in the experts' views on whether it would be easier to adjust track level, platform edges or car floor height (or a combination of all three) to acheive level access at stations. This is, of course, purely hypothetical as I doubt the funding would be available in the foreseeable future.

I've also experienced the problem between between Wasnstead and Leytonstone, as well as the general noise from the track throughout the extension. I wonder if it is in part due to the substrate of the tunnel invert from its use as a factory?

Incorrect. They had somewhere in the region of twenty partial car bodies and frames from the original CLR motor stock, over and above the one they preserved as a sleet locomotive. All these were scrapped. The same mentality would have seen us without many of today's most precious railway relics, reaching back to Hackworth and beyond. My first post, in at the deep end, so pardon me if I'm a bit off topic! On the subject of missed opportunities, I recall a photo from a depot open day, possibly Neasden 1963, which showed some venerable tube stock in use as an engineering training set-up. I don't recall the caption and I'm not sure if it was CLR stock, but it's a great shame nothing from it was saved.
