I saw it running around the Met today (unit 5110) - definitely sounds like it has some flats.

My partner (who works for tfl) received an internal message saying the current RAT is being retired with the D stock RAT ready for testing, which comes as no surprise. But do we know if the A stock wil continue to be used for heritage runs, such as the open day in Amersham?

So the A stock has finished its duties now?
I have heard that all three units of A stock to not. Ring kept although it appears the Piccadilly could do with it!

The D stock has returned to Acton Works (so I'm informed) for further fettling. Remember that there will be two D78 RATS with a second still to undergo conversion. Very little scope for the A stock to remain, unfortunately. 😔

It's supposed to be the last day of the RAT this year today. However I'm standing at harrow-on-the-hill and have seen neither hide nor hair of it (was due to pass here at 1120 and the rest of the met seems to be running to time). Anyone know if it'll be out at all today, e.g. later on on the Uxbridge run?

I was planning on getting to West Harrow for the Uxbridge run and then filming it through Ickenham on the way back and then getting it reversing at Harrow.

Since I don't currently have a decent camera I decided to head to Uxbridge. Can't go much wrong with a terminus! On a train to West Drayton now (I was doing HST bashing earlier!), planning to bus across to Uxbridge on the 222. How likely is it that asking the driver really nicely for a cab ride would be successful?

Please do not ask the driver for a cab ride. It is not fair to put them in that position. I have spoken to the train operator before however and he was a friendly chap who was happy to have a quick chat however. There is a quick turn round at Uxbridge so don't hold them up!

It's OK, I won't, I wasn't really serious. I'll definitely have a chat if they're willing and there's time though!

Ah. Should I wait at harrow to see if it comes through or is it back in the depot already?

Had a quick five-second chat with the driver at Northwood just now (no, I didn't ask fro a cab ride. I wasn't being serious. Sorry, I didn't realise this was such an issue here). He said that, if they have enough sandite left, it will run tomorrow. I'm off home now — successful day despite not catching it in the light!

He said that, if they have enough sandite left, it will run tomorrow. I'm off home now — successful day despite not catching it in the light! You've said you were only joking and that's fine, people make throwaway comments from time to time, we can all understand that. But I reiterate now for you and everybody else, cab rides are a serious issue. Drivers do not have the authority to grant access to their cabs to members of the public. Any driver so unwise as to do this jeopardises their career. Train cabs are a controlled, safety-critical environment. There is a very short list of people who are allowed to be in there. Members of the public are not on that list.
This being the case, we do take cab rides very very seriously here. We are proud of our reputation as a forum where transport professionals and tube enthusiasts can meet to discuss London Underground, and people like me can learn all sorts of things that I would never be able to learn otherwise. That is made possible by the mutual trust between LU staff members and enthusiasts that we have on this forum. We will not allow this to be jeopardised. We will not allow the reputation of this forum - and, by extension, its founder - to be tarnished. Members who are found to have gained unauthorised (and I stress unauthorised, but that means authorised only by those who have the power to grant access) access to any restricted part of London Underground whatsoever, including train cabs, may have their accounts terminated without notice. Don't do it. Don't approach people on this forum, and don't approach them in real life or through other forums either.

I have spoken to the train operator before however and he was a friendly chap who was happy to have a quick chat however. There is a quick turn round at Uxbridge so don't hold them up! At this point, I must flag the following forum rule: The founder of this forum, David Maloney... aka District Dave... was a Train Instructor/Operator. Baring in mind that this forum is a happy combination of LU enthusiasts, LU/LT retirees and current LU/TfL staff, I cannot think of anything less respectful than any member here being idiotic/foolish enough to ask for a cab ride without proper authorisation. Lets just say that their days here, as a member, would be numbered. If another forum might turn a blind eye (for example, saying nothing publicly), IMO that shouts volumes for the (lack of) respect that other sites might show towards LU/TfL staff... and my best advice would be to an enthusiast, would be to steer very very clear !!! At the end of the day it is for the visitor to decide whether they feel that trespassing, endangering themselves or others, is an acceptable behaviour for an Underground enthusiast. I take the approach that these characters know that their behaviour may tarnish the respectability of others who wish to enjoy a knowledge, understanding and respect of London Underground !!!

I've very quickly thrown together something I intend to use tomorrow to help me track the RAT on (presumably?) its last trip, if they haven't run out of sandite! I thought it might come in handy for anyone on here. Bear in mind it's a very quick and horrible hack using TfL's open data and I don't intend to maintain it after tomorrow: tim32.org/trains/lulgen.txtIt's updated every 10 seconds, and shows the 30 most recent matches for searching for trains with set number 710, trains with destination "Special", and trains with set number 000 (unfortunately they don't appear in the file in that order). These, in order from most to least definitive, are indications that the service is the RAT. The format of the output is as follows: Line StationCode Time StationName PlatformDescription SetNo TripNo SecondsToStation CurrentLocation Destination LCID (Note that TrackerNet's public API is very tricky and inflexible to make good use of unless you're using it for exactly the purpose they intended (this isn't how open data should be). So this data is all based around stations, in that you can only get data on trains in terms of how far away they are from stations. So the StationName and PlatformDescription are for the station we're looking at, and the SecondsToStation are how long the train has before it gets to the station in question. CurrentLocation is likely to be much more useful as it is TfL's description on where the train actually IS at the moment. Sometimes the RAT will appear at stations where it isn't even going to pass, likely because of its weird timetable not playing nicely with TrackerNet's predictions. So don't put too much stock in anything other than the CurrentLocation field, basically.) (I've not yet found a use for the LCID but I've included it in case someone else has). Hope this comes in handy for someone tomorrow!

Can anyone confirm whether the A stock is running today?? Cheers in advance The A stock is running today but I think it's run out of sandite. Hopefully they keep it for heritage runs because it's a shame to lose the mighty A stock that's been with us for 55 years!..it was so nice seeing it but hopefully not the last!

I got to the Met Line later than intended today thanks to Southern. It looked like the Uxbridge line had received sandite although that may of course be left over from yesterday. The leaf fall timetable does not seem to show the RAT going to Uxbridge on a Saturday but I could of course be wrong there.
It would be a wonderful thing if one of the remaining A Stock trains could be retained for some heritage runs. The opportunity currently exists, it would be a dreadful shame if scrapping took place.

The A stock came from the uxbridge branch around 3:30 so that's probably fresh sandite you saw

Was actually around midday. Had to drive family back to an offshore island of the South Coast of England leaving Eastcote around 13h30. The foggy damp conditions alone probably merited it being done again today.

Amazingly, it does appear to be out today. At least, according to TfL's open data (sorry, my home internet connection is down at the moment), it's currently sat at Amersham plat 1 as of a few minutes ago.
For those who wish to run the script themselves, I'll upload it here:
