Has it ever happened that the staff doing the work and who prepared all the required materials in advance turn up at the worksite only to find that the wrong section of railway has been closed?

Tickets are (perhaps, as expected) selling fast. Three cars are now sold out and there appear to only be nine remaining in total, though this number seems to be fluctuating up and down. I presume this is because seats are put on hold for ten mins or so whilst payment is processed, being released again if the payment isn't completed.

Some back up to multiple now. In reality it is going to keep fluctuating as people hold things in baskets but don't pay - get in there quick if you're still trying, but do also persist.
Not sure why some people (granted, not here!) didn't expect this to sell out.

The costs of running the trip will be very high.

It will need planning, Timetable Notices will need writing and distributing and things like that. It will need qualified staff to operate the train: Motormen and Operating Officials....

These staff are on the payroll and its cost will be covered whether a train is a stock move or a special tour, it's just another train, keep calm, it's not a rocket mission to Mars.

It may seem that the money raised from ticket sales will be a profit for the Museum but there will be a lot of costs hidden elsewhere.
Such events are good in public relations terms but they are expensive.

On previous railtours, didn't some of the proceeds go towards a good cause?

For each of the A stock and C stock farewell tours the proceeds went to the Railway Children charity.

I went on my own "private" tour a week or so ago, when, by chance, the D-stock train arrived at Acton Town and I decided to take it one stop to Ealing common . I don't really feel as sad about it as when the old met line trains were removed. The one I was on was certainly showing its age. Some of the moquettes were torn and one of the dot matrix displays (is that what it is called?) inside the train was stuck on "Richmond". I'm sure the tour will go well and provide a few more lasting memories.

Would paid staff agree to work for free? I suspect that would very much depend on the staff in question... I suspect that some staff would be quite willing to give up their time, and not be paid for it but others may not... and it's then balancing them up.

You will need at least two In-Date D-Stock Certified Drivers at least to operate the tour train to start with.

Who operates the train? District line train operators or Test Train Ops?

You will need at least two In-Date D-Stock Certified Drivers at least to operate the tour train to start with. One staff member I was chatting to on the last day in service mentioned that he was part of a group doing routine D-stock refersher training the day before(!). So I don't think that there will be a shortage of certified drivers, however available certified drivers may be a different issue. Even if there enough people who would volunteer, they would not be able to exceed the normal rules of maximum hours, time between shifts, etc.

Of course, not too difficult to figure out approximate timings, but out of interest, will the timetable for the day be made available in due course? Many thanks.
