I visited Moorgate this evening, then saw the train travel on the outer circle at Bayswater.
Putting the S7 in Moorgate platform 3 seemed to me to be a clever way of stopping people clamber down onto the track to get closer to the anniversary train.
Like others posted, it felt as if the train went through the station very fast, too fast to really be able to appreciate it. However, the smell of steam afterwards was wonderful.

Went back again to Euston Square this evening, classic PA made by the station supervisor, something along the lines of "Ladies and gentlemen please be aware that there will be a lot of steam as this is a steam train." Unfortunately a bit too packed to come back with any acceptable photos.
He meant business however, my hair smelt of the smoke for a good hour afterwards!

Yesterday evening is still a blur... not only the trip itself, but also just chatting to fellow enthusiasts. Will done to all involved. Volunteers/Stewards, actors (in costume), train staff and to all LU staff for making this a very special evening. I've uploaded the best 176 of my 645 images to a new Flickr Set... HEREKind regards ChrisW

Like Chris, I'd like to extend thanks to all involved... It was a fantastic experience, and I loved every minute of it. Just seeing the steam train coming in to Moorgate was enough for me, but the fantastically good ride and the fellow passengers in the carriage made the event so much more fun. The looks on the faces of people on platforms and trains was fantastic, although some were oblivious and doing double takes. Tfl staff, the BTP and what looked like a fireman were all taking videos and pics and everyone just seemed to be saving a good time. Despite doubting the price, I feel it was worth the money. Smoother ride than A, C and S stock too

No evidence of the reported damage to Sarah, so it must have been minor.

I distinctly recall seeing the 3 car Ashbury carriages in passenger service on some Sundays hauled by Electric Locos on "slow lines" through Preston Road around 1960...in all the references to these carriages there is never any reference to their occasional use in regular Met. line service other than steam hauled on Chesham Shuttle...does any one have any recollection or references, photos of this usage?...it would supplement the archives...thanks

I was there when it passed through at 12:19 (13/1/13). When I got back home and took my top layers off, I found a lovely black V shape on my shirt, and a smaller one again on my neck. When I washed my hair, it turned the water dark grey! Having said that, one of the top 10 most amazing things I've ever seen. Picture the pictures all turned out cr** because of the low light, even lower than I'd anticipated. I felt really sorry for the driver of the circle line train who'd been following it along the line - he could barely see the signals with all the smoke!

They were taken ECS to Neasden for servicing and cleaning.

It was definitely in passenger use one Sunday as I recall the 3 car set stopping at Preston Road Northbound and the guard stepping out giving signal to driver of electric loco by touching the 2 wires with his flag....pity Digital cameras and Internet weren't yet invented!

www.flickr.com/photos/fellis-wrv/8380114193/in/photostream - my efforts at Earls Court. If I'm honest, it was a weird experience having a flow of C and D stock passing through, and then suddenly met 1 turned up. Took me back a few years to going round museums, and to think that was what used to run the service all those years ago, was quite an odd feeling!

It would be good if the LT Museum could produce a suitable DVD/CD for those of us who live too far away - perhaps they have that planned?

GH I am sure you that is all in hand as it is great revenue opportunity for them. There is also a Farewell To The A Stock in the can one which I might be in as I was interviewed at Moorgate but don't let that put you off purchasing it ;D XF

Any idea what the verdict is from inside LU, was this as great a success as it appeared? I didn't notice any crowd issues or late running, all seems to have gone very well.

Any idea what the verdict is from inside LU, was this as great a success as it appeared? Chatting to a couple of senior people on Sunday without giving attributable quotes, the feeling is that the combination of the success of the Olympics plus this Anniversary has lifted the overall organisation up a notch in public opinion.

Some positive comments from Howard Collins in this Evening Standard article"Next weekend, there will be a series of further trips but after that there may be some time before steam returns to the Underground, though it definitely will, according to Howard Collins, London Underground’s Chief Operating Officer. He said: "This has been a fantastic success and the work we put into it means we will now be able to run future events like this. Transport for London is considering running them every year. The engine has a certificate for 10 years, so it should be back"Chris

Blast films are filming and for those not able to visit a special TV programme will be screened.
Internally from my lowly position. Much work went into trying to make the day a success. Stiggy was involved at a local level and worked last Sunday.
There was a worry over congestion, LU quite rightly take this very seriously. The behaviour of the crowds of enthusiasts was largely superb. Some do forget that their "perfect shot" must not compromise safety of the PTI. Feedback from all of my staff was it was an enjoyable experience and a good number of staff went out of their normal working "zones" to provide an enjoyable experience for enthusiasts.
The only issue we found involved Oyster and unresolved journeys. Sadly we received no guidance on this from LU and quickly adapted to make sure the minimal number of people were affected. But if you plan to go this Sunday I would strongly suggest you leave your PAYG at home and buy a paper travelcard
On a related note, if you genuinely had a good time and found staff helpful, PLEASE spend just a few moments giving the feedback to TfL customer services. Many staff helped enthusiasts with train times, locations, general chat. I even heard of trains being unofficially held for a few seconds to allow the cross platform shots.

I spent the day chasing the train around London. Here's a video, with clips of it from the Tesco carpark, over a wall near Bayswater, and the platforms at Kensington Olympia and Baker Street:
Also, a longer version including a little build-up, station announcements, etc:
Many thanks to everyone who helped make it possible!
Thanks Ian

The stock's only got to get from Lillie Bridge to Olympia Junc and then it's all substantially under cover. The thunderbirds preceed Met 1 and stock, and if they get stuck Met 1 can give them a shove as she doesn't have to worry about ice on the conductor rails

I really hope the snow forecast doesn't muck up the weekend Transport Museum website says a decision will be taken by 2pm. As a steam loco works better in the snow, we could end up with the steam train running while the modern stuff is crippled!

Whilst the train might well be able to operate, there is a question mark over whether people can get to London to travel on it.
Personally I hope it does run as I'm on the last departure from Moorgate to Earls Court!
Regards,
Dan

Thunderbirds? You do realise that it was a fictional program and no such thing exists?

I believe that if the big railway isn't running and the Underground network is severely affected also, the Met 150 Heritage Train will not run either, and be deferred to run on Sunday 27th January.
