Yep, an S stock passenger run will operate Barking to Upminster this coming Friday utilising one of the training trains. Assuming all is well passenger service to Upminster will then be available from Monday 19th January. Richmond still isn't signed off though which may be an issue as train 2 below does a Richmond trip!! It is planned to have 12 D stocks replaced by S stocks between 19th January and the May timetable change. Some of these will be midday stablers (ie, out in the peaks but back to depot during the day when less trains are needed in service); those that are out all day will primarily be Ealing services. I don't know what the plan is for weekends as the information I have only relates to weekdays. It is possible that more may enter service prior to the May timetable change, but contractually the magic number is 12. The two east end training trains (753 & 754) will continue to run in addition to the 12 shown below. The plan, which is subject to change and is therefore only a guide at best, looks like this: Train 1......19/1/15......123 (am)/124 (pm) Train 2......19/1/15......63 Train 3......26/1/15......67 Train 4......2/2/15.......62 Train 5......2/2/15.......64 Train 6......9/3/15.......125 Train 7......16/3/15......66 Train 8......16/3/15......56 Train 9......23/3/15......102 Train 10.....30/3/15......60 Train 11.....30/3/15......55 Train 12.....6/4/15.......126 Train 6 (125) is the mansion House reverser so 125 is doubtful

I have a feeling that the first two units to go have already been decided as 7056+7085 these have been stabled on the alps for a considerable time and there has been a lack of serviceable D's on occasion meaning a S has been sent out in its place

The train is made up of four different car types. These cars are arranged to make up a seven or eight car train. The four car types are; Driving motor car The (DM) car has a driving cab, an auto coupler (for emergency use only), traction current collection shoes, high voltage box, shed receptacle box, compressor, motor converter module and four traction motors Motor one car The M1 car has a battery pack, auxiliary converter module, motor converter module and four traction motors. Motor two or Motor two de-icing car The M2 car has a motor converter module and four traction motors. The M2D car is the same as an M2 car with the addition of de-icing equipment Motor shoe gear car The (MS) car has traction current collecting shoes, high voltage box, shed receptacle box, motor converter module and four traction motors
The DM is 21xxx the M1 is 22xxx the M2 is 23xxx The De-icing car if applicable uses 25xxx The NS is 24xxx
Hope this helps Paul

I think the original reason that guards are still on Southern West (now South West Trains) is that the drivers refused to go DOO unlike on Southern Central (Southern Trains) and Southern East (South Eastern ).

From the WTT: Another point to note: That's what I read in the WTT. However, I wanted to know if there are any designated S Stock workings already, rather like train 121 in the previous timetable. None as yet 121 used to be S as it was Acton Crewed both AM and PM plus train only went as far Eastbound as barking.

are any H&Cs booked to turn back at Paistow or west Ham? There are a couple Mon Sat late evening evening and I believe 3 on Sunday evenings that reverse via Plaistow bay. No trains are booked to reverse in West Ham Siding but there is one booked to run in each direction WB/EB as a rusty rail move

I was changing trains at Earls Court (SSR) on Monday at around 10.30, and I heard the "Would Inspector Sands please go to the operations room immediately." announcement for the first time; it was played twice, but none of the visible staff reacted in any way, and everything just carried on as normal. Any idea what was going on? As a former CSA at Earl's Court I can tell you that was a daily test of the fire alarm panel. It is tested every day at about 10 (after morning peak) it cannot be tested at night as most stations are because of a noise abatement order on the station regarding public announcements.

Although there aren't any porter buttons on the S stock. You have to hold the buttons for passenger door operation down and it closes up all the doors on one car. I don't know if there's a particular button (or either button on a particular set of doors) you have to use, but I - uh - don't think so. We select platform close from the cab press both close buttons and this sets up all the internal door buttons as a porter button 1 button will close all doors on that particular car then when I walk through the train I bash my head on all the damned yellow grab straps

Hi all I know this is all about the S7s at mansion house station can I diverted the conversion about D78 at mansion house station how often do they go in the middle road at this station. When is the best time to go Down there and get a D78 in the middle road at mansion house. Please could somebody help me out here as I would like to get a photo of a D78 in the middle platform before it goes completely. Thanks Hope this helps Train 064 departs Acton Town M-F at 0603 passes through Earl's Court at 0622 arrives at Mansion House Bay Road at 0643 it Departs at 0659 towards Wimbledon This is the ONLY scheduled Mansion House reverser but if the service is disrupted it is quite likely that a late running Tower Hill train may be reversed there

being ex stations but not ticket office I can remember that if card balance is a mixture of cash/debit card that refunds can't just be given out as cash so a cheque would be sent from LUL

I take issue with the fact that station staff cannot be expected to know where buses go from their station. I'd actually suggest that it ought to be a key requirement of their knowledge to work at a given station. Sure, they may not know it when they start but it ought to be picked up over time, from colleagues or reading maps during a quiet interval. I don't know if this is the official line or not but, if it is, I find it quite poor. Whilst the passenger should be expected to use their brain, they ought also be provided with information and directions by the staff to enable them to reach their destination. Perhaps - I would certainly double check - but both you and I know more than the average passenger, as our membership of this forum demonstrates. I have travelled in a taxi laid on by LU, in Zone D - outwith the "TfL" bus area which, presumably, means there is no agreement with the local bus firm to accept tickets. In fact, it is not entirely unusual for taxis to be laid on when British Rail (or successor)'s services are disrupted - albeit usually in areas with fewer or no alternative options. A passenger could easily be forgiven for not knowing that different procedures apply here! Some major stations like Canning Town have posters which state how to travel by bus to most (?) stations on the line(s) serving that station (in this case Jubilee and DLR).
Meanwhile the other day a signal failure at Gunnersbury suspended the Richmond branch again Part of the problem is that staff knowledge is learnt over a period of time (hotels buses theatres etc) If the lone member of staff is a group reserve or even new onto a station group they won't have any idea of what is in the surrounding area.especially as most of the CYJ (Continue Your Journey) leaflets were done away with to save money. For example my time on the Earl"s Court group (6.5 years) I NEVER worked at Wimbledon Park. I only worked at Putney Bridge once but my knowledge of Earl's Court was extremely good (being ex-buses my route knowledge was excellent). Also Station staff don"t get that much "quiet interval" to be able to leave a gateline unattended. with the proposed station staffing changes and staff being shifted here there and everywhere things will get worse.

The rail replacement between Hammersmith & Acton Town was woefully underbussed yesterday (30 march) on arrival at Hammersmith there was about 500-600 people waiting in a queue no bus in sight about 10 mins later 1 bus arrived I waited over 30 minutes to get on a bus along with a Piccadilly line driver it took almost an hour from arriving at Hammersmith to reach Acton Town. The officials from Metroline seemed to be happy to chat amongst themselves but when asked when the next bus was they didn't have a clue. When the Wimbledon Branch is closed or when the Vic line was upgraded the rail replacement services seemed to have sufficient vehicles to cater for demand but also having spare vehicles available to cater for traffic delays or extra volume of passengers.

I think Bromley (TB) and/or Catford (TL)were the last before Barking to utilise RT's. They were certainly active on routes such as the 1, 47, 94 and 119 a long way into 1978. It's interesting how people see things when old types (be they buses or trains) are withdrawn and how they view what replaces them. I know a guy who feels that bus travel died when RT's were withdrawn and was certainly not happy about riding on the 62 on a Routemaster next day - this despite the fact RM's had the same basic layout, comfy seats, tungsten bulbs and a conductor. Compare that to what eventually replaced the RM's: plastic boxes with harsh lighting and hard seats - ugh! Still, the new 'RM's' do have potential as I feel had RM production not ceased in 1968 and the shape had gone through various overhauls through the years the buses wouldn't have been far off what we have now. Back to old types being replaced and it always makes me chuckle a little when some say that rail travel died when steam was withdrawn in favour of Diesels/EMU's etc. Yes it was sad to see that era go but people forget that what you rode in was the same ie Mark 1 or 2 carriages, so you still had a comfortable ride. Contrast this when my beloved EPB's made way for Networkers with, yes you've guessed it, plastic everywhere, stark fluorescent lighting and the ubiquitous hard seats. Plus the annoying 'beep beep' of the doors and motors that made a sound akin to that of a hair dryer and a washing machine. in 1976/77 RT's were still operating out of AM AP AW BK BX CM HD HW TB TL There was also a solitary RT at TC on the 190 route with masking taped blinds
