It's worth remembering that while these stations are not S.12, they still require locking up at the close of traffic. It's possible that the roving Customer Service Manager for the group was not available. Snaresbrook has closed a couple of times recently for similar reasons. Over the past few months and especially during covid a lot of stations seemed to have closed due to non availability of staff. This evening both Upton Park and Plaistow was closed. It was strange that the train stopped in them then moved off. On the Central when this used to happen, they drove through the station around 10mph. I think this used to happen on one of the other District stations, think it was Mansion House some years ago. Signal may have been on (red) and waiting for it to clear perhaps

Hammersmith and Barons Court, to name two. ETA: Although these are still island platforms as the District line shares a platform in each direction. Thanks for your quick reply, I was looking for a deep level station platform where the track was in the middle with platforms opposite, I'm thinking of the oldest Baker Street platforms but deep level? Milf End is one for certain

I believe that it is illegal to take strike action during times of national crisis. LUL have the unions over a barrel. But staff have the right to withdraw from unsafe working conditions (social distancing and overcrowding levels) I have been working consistently but if these new schedules are imposed I will be thinking is it safe for me to continue as I will NOT travel on the cushions between pick ups and if there is not enough room to social distance at work

Revised services from 29 March: Revised services from 5 April: Revised services from 6 April: I think that they are going to be optimistic with coverage as more people will start dropping out through one reason or another all this will do is bring MORE people onto the underground network at a time when they need to REDUCE numbers.

Would SMA mean Signalling Migration Area by any chance? Yes, according to this article in Rail Engineer. Interesting, page 10 (PDF page 9) of this PDF includes a nice diagram of the different areas. The document is dated 2016 though so I'm not sure how up-to-date it is. It is still up to date as of today just done my ATC(Automatic Train Control) refresher training and this map is what we were shown. Interestingly the reversing point at Aldgate East is to go but new reversing points both EB and WB are in place at Tower Hill for SMA03

Guaranteed to be occupied for the whole length of every journey though. Not at all the seats are blooming uncomfortable I have to alternate between sitting and standing

A potential reason for fewer journeys being made is a drop in many peoples disposable income so trips out are scaled back

Power would need to be discharged before any evacuation could take place so automatically disengaging the lock in the event of a power to the train being lost (unless actively overridden by the driver every n minutes) would seem to reduce the likelihood of a prevented evacuation. The lock could also be automatically disengaged in other circumstances if not actively maintained too - no inputs from any controls in either cab for n minutes, open M door, etc. It could be linked to the S stock OPO alarm system we need to keep the TBC twisted to prevent it activating it is already linked to the trains public address system

One thing I notice is that the tfl website says "reduced service" slightly misleading I think as there is two trains running

For us District Drivers at Acton we normally have 2 or 3 trains per duty however during engineering works (depending on closure location) we can actually work on more I remember a weekend or two we stepped back at Tower Hill and some duties had 6 trains

When stepping back is being used there is one more driver than there are trains for them to drive, the extra being the one walking the length of the platform to be ready to take out the train after the one they drove in - assuming this is happening at the southernmost station of a service, which is not the location of a train or crew depot. Driver 1 drives train 1 into the platform and shuts down that cab Driver 2, who was waiting at the north end of the platform, gets into the north end cab and starts opening it up. Driver 1 signals to driver 2 that the south end cab is clear and starts walking to the north end of the platform, while driver 2 closes the doors and departs Driver 3 then arrives with train 2 and the same thing repeats. But the first driver to be waiting at the north end of the platform can't have driven a train there - the driver of train 0 shut down the south end cab, walked to the north end, opened up etc and drove train 0 back north again. Is it just as simple as driver 2 travelling as a passenger on train 0? Similarly at the end of stepping back, driver 30 drives train 29 into the station, shuts down while driver 29 gets into the north cab, closes the doors and drives train 29 northbound. Driver 31 arrives with train 30, walks the length of the platform and drivers train 30 north again. Driver 29 is left without a train to drive - do they just catch the train (29 or 30 presumably) as a passenger to their depot? Yes it's as simple as a duty simply picking up at the step back location instead of the normal pick up place for the depot concerned. The driver can get there however he likes as long as he is in position ready at the correct time and place. Normally there is a "step back manager" rostered at the location to oversee things and to make decisions if someone isn't in position for whatever reason. Of course some step back locations (e.g. Morden, Brixton etc) are crew depots in their own right, so it's even easier. In fact Aldgate now seems to be the only regular location which isn't a depot - unless I'm forgetting somewhere. Walthamstow Central on the vic also has stepping back

I was interested to see "No District South Kensington to Wimbledon" or words to that effect scrolling on the 22 bus I was on along the Kings Road in Chelsea. Unfortunately I have since been on a 337 to Richmond. It displayed the same message about the Wimbledon branch, failing to warn passengers that the District would be unavailable from Richmond. I realise that getting all the info out there can be hard but sometimes partial info is worse than no info. Probably because the Overground is in operation between Richmond and Gunnersbury (rail replacement to Turnham Green) then Piccadilly line services

Seeing a poster on a stn today regarding unwell passengers saying help them onto the platform makes me think if the station is unstaffed are the passengers possibly putting said person in greater risk

The crossover on Putney Bridge was removed when the new track layout was installed. The cross over at East Putney is still in place and is manually worked via the ground frame and requires a handle signal person to operate it and authorise trains to traverse etc. It has not been used for years That crossover has also gone the points at East Putney are for NR moves only

Did something happen earlier today at around 11AM? I was travelling from Southfields to West Brompton. A westbound train at SFS remained at the platform for quite some time, however no delays reported. Same thing at East Putney. Slightly later in the day when coming back, an eastbound train went through Notting Hill Gate out of service, in addition to an Ealing Broadway bound train then arriving on the westbound. I then saw another train out of service enter HSK platform 3. Still no delays reported on the District line. Some more diversions at ECT too I believe. There are a couple of empty stock moves that run when required between Ealing Common and Neasden Via Edgware Rd and Moorgate that is probably the empty out of service trains plus trains on the Wimbledon branch are being held at certain times of the day because of Southwest trains using the lines between East Putney and Wimbledon plus there are scheduled trains early morning E Common-Edgware Rd & Late evening Edgware Rd-Ealing Broadway plus a couple of peak moves to get stock to from depot
