There was nothing wrong with the 'old' system, this smacks of someone trying to justify their salary by coming up with a new fancy idea.

I find the term 'Overground' fairly useless on the line maps as it doesn't tell me which Overground line it is. Fortunately I know, however to the layman changing at Walthamstow Central, Blackhorse Road or Seven Sisters is the same thing, although they're on three completely different Overground lines.

Sorry to go slightly off-topic but aren't there pedestrian crossings on the Epping-Ongar railway? Or have they been got rid of (or did I imagine it)?

I have a quick question, I travelled from Walthamstow Central to Waterloo last week, changing at Oxford Circus and was charged £2.40, on the way back (around 9pm) I went Waterloo > Vauxhall on National Rail, quick (2 mins) out of station interchange at Vauxhall, took the Victoria back to WC and was charged £3.90. Does this not count as the same Zone 1 to 3 travel?

The video combines footage shot from a Victoria Line train, synchronised with its route above ground. The soundtrack echoes the most widely spoken language, after English, at each stage of the route. The underground journey takes just over 30 minutes, but we have condensed the footage into three minutes.www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-1e4fbcb9-5bd6-4e14-adf5-bf3ab1ba79bbWell I liked it!

May I add that the quizzes are very much appreciated and I've bookmarked the main quiz page as one of the first things I check in the morning. Keep up the good work!

I could be wrong but B looks like the bridge over the River Lea just north of Clapton station.

It's one of the 'top end of the Vic' stations, I presume due to their scheduled re-opening today (although I gather they actually re-opened on Saturday), not sure if it's BR or TH though. I'll have to go with my home station Blackhorse Road, don't think TH has one of those fans and also I'll look like a proper dipstick if I don't and it is.

Hi all, I just wondered why when new rolling stock was required a year apart last century, London Transport didn't combine the orders to make it more efficient, like the New Tube For London (horrible name, by the way)? E.g. when the 1972 stock and then the 1973 stock was built, or the 1995 and 1996 stock. I appreciate the stocks are similar, but surely building identical trains based on a happy medium of requirements would be more efficient, better for maintenance and sharing stock if necessary? I appreciate signalling systems may differ but could that not be worked around?

It was an iron footbridge, double width, boarded along the centre internally. The inner corridor, facing LOndon, joined the two Chingford Line platforms, the outer the two station approaches. This latter, though fully maintained, was not in use after ww2. It was kept after the Vic Line opened in 1968 as LT used to gate off their subway when their trains ceased; the Chingford line ran longer hours. It can be seen in a few pictures on www.walthamstowhistory.com/hoe.htm

In my experience as a frequent rail traveller you can only claim for a delay of the service (50% of the ticket value for half-hour, 100% for an hour+ on Abellio Greater Anglia, not sure of the First Great Western Delay Repay criteria) and as DistrictSOM mentions, they have to provide an alternative route to your destination, usually something long and convoluted but it'll get you there. If you go 'off-piste' as such, this is your prerogative but it's not something they're liable for.

How much are decommissioned Underground carriages generally worth? Could someone (with ample storage space!) have bought a '67 or A60 from TfL when they were being scrapped and for what price? And how much would likely be asked for this trailer in 'reasonable condition'?

Excellent find, suppose they didn't know the proper start was "Most Underground carriages last a very long time, so these spanking new coaches will be carrying us when we're all fifteen years older, 'til the year 1998. Then off to Booths."

B is Buckhurst Hill. They all have Hill as a suffix except for Hillingdon which has it as a prefix.

I'd have thought they'd just record everything unique once and then stitch all the bits together as necessary, but there definitely appears to be some duplication - sometimes the announcement says "The next station is Euston" and sometimes it's "The next station <pause> is Green Park". Any idea why it would've been done like this? It still sounds pieced together most of the time so I can't believe the voiceover lady has recorded every announcement in full.
