I don't understand why they can't open that gate, everything else is open anyway. Sure there have been a few missed trains as if you come up from the subway to the London-bound platform they make you go the longer way round.

Just thinking, as TfL are using the advertising slogan "TfL don't make a profit as....", does the Underground (and TfL as a whole) make money from ticket sales, advertising, branded items, etc., or does it rely on government funding to make up any shortfall? I'm not looking for numbers, just a general idea. The number of factors are just too large to get my head around!

Are members of the public allowed to travel on the Kennington loop? Or if you try and stay on a terminating train are you asked to get off?

"TfL doesn't make a profit because we reinvest all our income to run and improve your services."
No, they don't make a profit as they keep squandering their money on rubbish like this! A claim for the Advertising Standard Authority maybe?

Just a video I found online of the extension from Liverpool Street to Stratford in 1946 that I found fascinating as I take this route often and it's hard to believe it happened where I often stand 60 years ago. Numerous shots of Standard stock, Stratford station, people dressed smartly and people smoking on the tube (not to be encouraged).

Without wishing to go off-topic, has all signage at the tube station been changed? And will Heathrow continue with no terminal numbered '1'?

D is St James Street northbound exit.
Let's have a guess at Bow Church for B and Heron Quays for C.

So one of the guys who was caught only had to pay back half the fares he skipped? Makes it sound almost worthwhile! I remember the last series clearly showed viewers how to follow someone through a barrier and not have it close on you - I won't detail it here for obvious reasons but I don't think that was too wise!

Tonight's script editor obviously didn't know what the tube lines are called before the voice over chap recorded them Stuck out like a sore thumb! "Pete and his maintenance team have fifty hours to give a stretch of the Metropolitan, Hammersmith, City and Circle line a much needed refit."

Apologies if this has been asked before but why do TfL trains (and buses) have fabric seating? Trains abroad generally have plastic or metal seating which would be much easier and cheaper to build, replace and clean. In these days of cost-cutting I am surprised to see all refurbs and proposed new trains all still have fabric seating.

The ticket touts had a mention last night. Dumb question, but how do they operate? They operate by standing by ticket gates and unsuspecting passengers give them their tickets as they believe the have to. They then sell the tickets to other people who either don't know they shouldn't buy them or think its a cheap way to travel. Generally only works for paper one-day travelcards - usually they beg for them as you leave the station if it's late at night. With the advent of Oyster I haven't seen any for ages though although they do clearly still exist.

In my view there are four service levels that I want to know about. 1. As advertised 2. Not as good as usual, you might be late but not seriously so 3. You are going to be seriously late but will be even later if you try an alternative route 4. Totally ******, find a different route. Now try and find polite and meanigful terms for them. I'd go with these to be fair.

Whilst it looks like a larger number of shorter formation trains than there has been before, in my experience LO are trying to lengthen trains to 8-car formations where possible, which increases the chance of a potential short formation. So whilst it's technically a negative on the sheet, it's still better than what we had before!

Too many syllables. Although 'Liz Line' does have a nice ring to it. Don't know what was wrong about 'Crossrail' though, something tells me TfL have too much money, I'll be lobbying for cheaper fares next January.

I seem to recall reading there was a station 'built' (in the loosest sense of the word) for T5 on the Heathrow loop, but eventually they decided to build Terminal 5 somewhere else in the Heathrow complex. Is this true?

Let's have a punt then that B is Harlesden, they're same-platform interchanges in alphabetical order and the 5th would be Kensal Green, with Highbury the odd one out as it involves separate platforms despite them being next to each other.

I've often wondered why there is a vertical gap between the platform and train, which has been alleviated somewhat by the addition of humps in the central section of the platform. Using the Victoria line as an example, why, when the line was being built, was there a vertical gap between the train and the platform? Could the platforms and trains not be built at the same level for ease of access? And could the 2009 stock not have been built with a lower floor at the doors rather than adding humps to the platform, which would allow the whole train to have level access?

last time I was there only one escalator was available with work on the other. people had to walk down. sounds like the remaining one has failed. Yep, that's the case but repairs on the 'open' escalator were completed a couple of months ago so clearly it didn't go to plan. Without either escalator there's only the narrow staircase and you can't run the station at rush hour with that.
