I'm no expert here but I presume its probably easier to suspend the service rather than run one at short notice between a section which is already served by the Jubilee and Circle/H&C. It's different to when there are actually planned works preventing services north of Wembley.
Either way, this won't really help many people much at all as they're as many, perhaps most, will be going north of Wembley, where the are no alternative options without the Met.

Hi All,
Sorry, I know this has been mentioned a few times but what is the latest on dates over the roll out of the new signalling onto the Met Main (north of Finchley Road)?

Didn't realise you were allowed workmen on one set of lines if the other is still operational. Back in the day, I recall the local lines being shut over the weekend for engineering works and the fast lines remaining open. Both lines were closed when the tamping was taking place. The machine became defective just before services were due to start and special arrangements were implemented to have the local lines open, while the crews and others tried to repair it. This couldn’t be done and a rescue from the rear had to be arranged. Very glad these arrangements were made as it would have been a right nuisance if the locals had to be closed as well, when they could be operated safely

If you define progress as fewer track workers killed and injured, then yes progress has been made. A fair point. Were these decisions and changes made following lineside workers being killed/injured?

Ahhh yes, that would be what I saw, thought it was planned!.

Noticed that fasts are running on the southbound local between moor park and harrow this morning. Thought this might be the harrow hot weather plan but turns out there are works going on the fast lines as I saw an engineering train and workmen on the lines.
What's going on with Chiltern then?!

Can the Cl378s run as 10 cars to increase capacity? I am not sure 10 cars would fit at many of the platforms along the route and would require significant platform extensions at some places. Would the line need 10 cars on each train though? I can't imagine that being needed, especially off peak. However, running 4 car 710s as doubles to create an 8 car train might be possible, albeit with some slight platform extension work. However, it might be a bit of a task to extend platforms such as Queens Park, Wembley Cntl and Stonebridge park where there are restrictions at both ends.

Are the seats covers due for replacement or change anytime soon? They are still using the originals 13-14 years since entering service.
Any guesses or insight into whether they will get the usual barmans blue or a Victoria line edition of it?

Would closure of the Stonebridge Park depot spell the end of Stonebridge Park terminators?

1973 Tube Stock were refurbished over 20yrs ago, are you now suggesting the slowness you’ve noticed has been present since then? Of course not, purely speculation (I was too young to remember the stock pre refurb but youtube videos were what I was basing this on), but I have noticed this for some years, although not 20! I would say the last 10 for sure. I just wanted to see if there was someone who has a certain answer to whether its something to do with the 73 stock (given its age - although the 72 stock is older, they pull in at some speed!). Guess when the 2024 stock is fully in service, maybe this might help as a comparison.

I assumed the approaches in part may be something to do in part with the 73 stock. They used to pull in quicker back in the day, especially pre refurb.

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but why do Piccadilly line drivers approach/enter stations (on the whole), at a considerably slower pace compared to other lines? I understand ATO lines are difficult to compare to as they will always approach at the max speed possible, but comparing this with other manually driven lines e.g. Most of the Met and all of the Bakerloo, it's noticeable that the 73 stock pulls in quite gently. For a fair comparison, as I know the S stock is much newer, the 72 stock (even older), rushes in most of the time like there is no tomorrow!

I would also be interested to see a picture of what the refurbished trains look like overall.
I assume they basically looked like the current Bakerloo line trains but with Black grab poles and a different moquette?

What's going on today? Bakerloo seems to be fine but the Watford DC is only running upto Willesden Junction (using the centre platform to reverse I assume?)
What work are they doing now that allows the Bakerloo to continue but not the Watford DC?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but it relates to ATO, including that on the SSR:
What is the reason that the Central line ATO system was designed to allow manual driving at full speed (and with full colour light signals) but other ATO systems on other lines, since switching over to ATO, do not allow full manual driving which is sufficient enough for passenger service?
For reference, I dont mean manual driving in the sense to move a train within depot, or when its an emergency because ATO has failed

My gosh, that sounds terrible, and just does not seem to flow smoothly like announcements on other lines.
Interestingly, why have they gone for a male as the main announcer, which is unlike any of the other lines?

Yes, quite right, I always found this strange given they were only refurbished a few years before the 73ts (in particular the A Stock) but these were the only one to have received them. Was it that the technology developed massively in this time?

These should have really have received PIS displays when they were originally refurbished! It was possible with the 73ts so surely could have been done then.

I dont understand why tfl spent money on changing the front destination boards on the 95,96 and 73 stocks were changed when they were far better than the ones on the 92s, yet tfl arent bothering with these at all!

This is probably in part due to the fact that the 62s were never refurbished or painted into the LUL livery at the time when other stocks of a similar era would have commenced their refurbishment programmes, which would have contributed to the dated look in comparison.
That said, imo, the lack of DMIs inside the 92s has accelerated the stocks dated looks internally. At the time, DMIs inside cars were a feature of stocks of a similar age e.g. class 465/165s etc. Even the refurbished 73ts got dmis and to this day, still looks more modern than the 92s internally. If you ask me, the inside of the 92ts is essentially a (very slightly) glorified 72ts interior.

Perhaps so, however, they have replaced others at stations where you could argue a change was not even needed. Many of the stations on the central line being an example more recently, so that cannot be the reason for not changing some of the others, unless there are specific station issues which prevent this.

When did the current style of roundel, the ones you see at most stations, come into use. I am talking about the ones which came about in the early 90s and continue to be the main style noted at most stations today, specifically the stations which are above ground. Commonly referred to as the Modern roundel, I am pretty sure these have been around for quite some time now. Example would be the roundels at Harrow on the Hill platforms and most stations all the way up to Watford/Amersham See links below for an example: www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/3571280560/

TFL should really look to start replacing the very worst of these style of DMIs still which are still around. Its amazing that certain principle stations such as Baker street (in particular the deep level platforms) have not had these changed where the text is really starting to fade now. Another really bad example is Euston Square and perhaps Barbican
How old are the oldest examples now?

They've been to and from Derby by rail multiple times, so I presume so. I can't find a source right now (and this might be apocryphal) but I remember reading that during the 1990s the Conservative government of the era considered handing the subsurface lines over to the rail companies as part of privatisation, leaving LU just with the deep tube lines. As part of this proposal they tried running a few Mark 3's around the Circle Line to see if it would provide a useful link for other cross-London services and the results certainly demonstrated that LU has a tighter gauge than the main lines, at least in terms of curves! now that is interesting, I wonder how the services would have been run today had that been the case, especially for the Met which would most likely have been run more as a mainline service than metro style I am guessing

Does anyone have footage of the C stock running on the bits which were usually only run by D78 stock? I believe this has happened a number of times in the days pre S stock.

Does anyone know if there is any footage around of Southbound A stock passing Wembley Park on the fast line (i.e Platform 6).
Specifically, I mean in the era between 1997-2012
Cheers.

Is there a reason they, (and the 73 stock) are not receiving LED headlamps at the front of the trains? I am pretty sure most other stocks have converted over.
