I was in a supermarket, and I was confused about some prices. A sign said something along the lines of 'In Doubt? Ask a Colleague'. So I rang work, and asked Chris the mechanic. He couldn't work it out either.

I don't believe that there is any purpose served in illuminating the road ahead in tube tunnels. It brings the tunnel segments into view, causing fatigue, and distracts from the visibility of signals. I suppose it could allow a driver better to see a defective, unlit signal, although the advantage of that, (Ooh! I wonder if it's red or green?) seems minimal. It would be interesting to do some research on the subject.

What is the purpose of carrying headlights? (I'm talking about lamps that light the road ahead, here). Surely they cause mental fatigue, and make signals less visible?

Seemingly!

I don't know about the '90s, but the District was running 20 trains per hour in 1878. This must have taken some slick operation.

Were is your evidence for this statement ? There will be no evidence for it because it isn’t true, MOD COMMENT brigham , this is not the first time where you have made a post which is just plainly bizarre. Please think before you post.Sorry. I thought everyone was aware of the measures taken to keep transport running during the General Strike. I'll re-phrase it with this in mind. "Perhaps they are driven by Special Constables, sworn in for the purpose, just like they did during the General Strike". (Big smile!)

I'm not sure "Relive the 1950s" is accurate, the train provided is hardly typical of the era! <<rincew1nd: duplicate post deleted>> ALL 'old' railway rolling stock, and ALL periods 'in the past' are entirely interchangeable. Ask any film director or 'wartime weekend' organiser!

Could be Brimham Rocks, or a scene from a Chuck Jones cartoon.

Not sure about the location, but the stop-board is interesting. It's in case the driver hasn't quite grasped the Rule Book.

It's pretty obvious that 500/600 passengers, ALL with places to go and things to do, aren't going to stand like penned sheep when the next station is within view. Taking this into consideration when making plans for such emergencies would seem, to me, more important than pretending that they somehow will.

The distants appear to be in general use. Restarting from Roding Valley, the distant is 'off', giving the automatic train 'clear road ahead'.

Let me get this straight: At the moment, a train which shows up Non-VOBC at the start of an ATO area has to be diverted to a non-ATO route in order to proceed. In future, this problem will be overcome by not having ANY non-ATO routes to divert to. In which case, doesn't this mean that such a train will be 'failed in traffic'? Nice solution. I love the flexibility built into these expensive upgrades.

Perhaps it's to do with the Clearing Point. If it's on the Westferry route, you might not be permitted to run into West India Quay until the line is clear to that point. Maybe no-one ever got round to setting a clearing point on the Poplar route?

Are there landscaped pit-heaps in Devon?
Looks more like what's left of Murton Colliery to me, but lost colliery sites are starting to look like shopping centres; all the same wherever you go.

These 'hidden' places have always fascinated me, right from childhood. I love the 3-D drawings; they look like something from a futuristic magazine, yet you can actually go in and explore them in real life. (I do go 'upstairs' sometimes, on my visits to Town).
