yeah - it holds the fire extinguisher - used to be available for the passengers to use, but because the chavs of the east liked to let them off IN the train when there wasnt any need to, this was changed so that its now in the cab.

Also, why is there a big thing in the middle of the J door (driver side, not passenger side), that looks like a huge metal box thing? (I know its on the 92 stock and 73 stock.... I think its on the D stock as well ) Wossit there for? Sounds like the emergency equipment cabinet, which contains all manner of stuff including an SCD, presspahn shields and gawd knows what else.

Yes, it's the "pod" and contains various items that are very rarely used.

It was more important than that. The fire extinguisher was accessible from both the cab and the saloon, so there was a hinged door allowing the driver access to it. These swing doors used to be kicked in to allow access to the rear cab and the pod. The kids used to nick the dets and throw the rest out the rear "M" door and of course play with buttons etc. I often found the rear tbc moved to emergency whilst driving. They could also be used to gain access to the front cab especially on a Friday/ Saturday night. For obvious reasons these were eventually panelled over after various discussions with the depots and management.

Well i hate change! All i see recently on the district going by is refurb. I love un-refurbished. Great ride everything you need. Passenger alarms away from lil kids. " If your are short just jump up on the seat and hit it!
If i had it my way there would still be 59 and 62 ts's around the underground including Q and R stock. To me the Un-refurbed D-Stock is my last bit of old underground and i hope it stays around for a lil while longer!
I can't stand the Refurbs!! You've got some noisy woman shouting that my station is next i know that already and if you don't look at a map! " If you are blind, i am sure they would have the common sense to ask a family member to guide them the way, though i can understand that the PA would help there.
Hard seats! They are hard and and bad flooring which you could easily slip on!
Ok i just had the refurbs lol

It's the last stock with the straphangers and maple flooring. Sad to see these things go. No taking your toolkit to 'em!

If you ask nicely.... ;D Methinks the contractor who removes the internal fittings won't be as careful as one of us might be - I could imaging any stripped parts in any skip would be pretty bashed and damaged. Now would be the time for the LU Museum to have one unit carefully dismantled with the internal fittings then sealed in an air-tight container for refitting should they chose to preserve a 'D' stock car. Can't see it happening though

Refurb train20 (7518+7523) arrived at Ealing Common by road on the morning of Monday 29 May, although it is currently formed the other way 7522+7519!
I haven't checked to see if it has got the additional handrails yet. We will have to see how quickly they retrofit these to the first 19trains.
To keep the update of numbers continuing: train22 (7076+7049) train23 (7122+7057) train24 (7006+7045) train25 (7014+7127) train26 (7500+7537) train27 (7016+7087) train28 (7020+7019)

Refurb train21 (7084+7069) was inside Ealing Common this morning, it must have arrived over the last 2days while I was RRDs !
I can now confirm that both trains20 & 21 do NOT have the additional handrails that were expected to be fitted from train20 onward.
Also, unit 7021 from refurb train1 has now received the later 'white stripe' livery- as the others from train4 have. So, get your cameras clicking on the few mixed livery trains that are still around! (7074+7047, 7522+7003 being two of them)

I have a 'D' Stock Refurb meeting on the 18th July. If LU staff have any pressing concerns do feel free to PM me and I will raise what issues I can. Don't feel bad if you do not get a reply straight away as I am going on leave shortly. I will respond before the meeting though.

This leaves just 7003 & 7074 in the original colours, but they are now coupled back together again, so there are NO mixed livery trains again . I suspect that they are going to get the new livery very soon.

I was travelling home tonight in the car with my son in the back. As we drove between Turnham Green and Chiswick Park he would call out if he saw 'daddy's train'. A short while later I am waiting at traffic lights under the M4 elevated section in Brentford and he yells out 'Daddy's train', so I say 'no not here'. 'Yes' he says, 'daddys train'. 'No not here' I say firmly. I look up and sure enough newly refurbished driving motor 7045 passes me on the back of a lorry. 'See' he says, 'ahem' I reply. When I look back there are two other lorries that passed me unoticed which I assume must make up the rest of the set returning from Derby. Kids, Who'd ave em? ;D

Refurbed unit 7014 from train25 was already at Ealing Common 'alps' sidings this morning, it probably arrived yesterday.
Unit 7020 (train28) was being loaded, to go away from ECom, also this morning.

So what's the lineup now? The unrefurbs are starting to get a bit thin on the ground; you're more likely to see a refurb than an unrefurb these days.

I believe that we now have 37 refurbs in service, out of a total fleet of 75. However, given that 3 trains are away at any given time, that means that the refurbs now outnumber the non-refurbs, albeit only just at the moment

The last refurb should be entering service before June 2008 - since the D stock will not finally be replaced until 2015 (at the earliest ) there is still some life in them ;D

Anybody wanting photo's of non refurbs had better get a move on, the days are numbered.
