Unfortunately he's been unwell - was taken ill at work a week or so ago. I beleive he's now back at home.

I feel a bit bad now, my last post was in jest as I wasn't aware he was unwell. Thanks for the update anyway, although it may have been altered from plans as I was on 7064 yesterday and it is refurbed.

As you say, looks like the plan's have been changed since 'my' list was produced.

That's not strictly true, we actually have thirtynine and a half in London with one unit due back shortly to make the forty. We carried out a second practical completion inspection today, with train 14 the first double ender. We also looked at train 12 too, overrall they are holding up pretty well. The only thing we found was some excessive play in the new drivers seat, but this was minimal and no different to seats on other stock.

Yes, I have indeed been unwell. As Dave says I was taken away by ambulance from Earl's Court on 25Feb after suffering with chest pains. Thankfully it was only a viral infection. I have now fully recovered and returned to work yesterday. Thank you Jim & Dave for your concern.
7064 was indeed already dealt with as refurb train36.
To catch up, with the little info I have:
train38 7510+7515 train39 7102+7101 train40 7022+7091 back in service train41 7054+7111 train42 7038 (2x 'A' ends) Derby train42 7126 (2x 'A' ends) Derby
Trains planned to go away are continually swapped over just prior to dispatch from ECom, units that require attention to the wooden floors are taking priority. Which is why de-icers 7022/7038 went, after express requests NOT to send any away during winter.
Unit 7510 retained its LED outside door-fault lights upon refurb. As units 7091 and 7514 are now refurbished there are now no un-refurbished units with painted grey roofs.

I travelled home on 7111 yesterday and it looked in spanking condition, they hadn't even fitted advertisments before putting it into service. I noted the unit number with the intention of checking where it was in the refurb program on Monday. I don't need to bother now because as per usual it is easier to check this forum (even for those on the project team!), so it seems we have 41 trains back then.

Only problem with the refurbs is they still leak water in heavy rain, I was travelling in one a few months ago when I felt water dripping down my neck, I changed cars at the next station and I was the same in that one.

Not to mention the floods of water that come under the 'M' door when it rains - woe betide if you've left your bag in that area!
The floors get very slippery - there have been a number if instances of T/Ops taking a tumble.
Oh, and there's no longer a 'lip' on the floor under the 'J' door either - so spilt fluids flow freely into the cabs from that direction too.

Just to add to that, before they went away, the 'N & O' cab doors had a gap because of the brushes that replaced the infamous rubber seal, which used inflate and completely seal the 'N & O' cab doors creating a fairly quite cab. They replaced the rubber seals with brushes because of certain people who used to get off on piercing the seals and the cost of replacing the rubber etc. You would have thought however that refurbs meant refurb but no they still come back with the gaps still there, and however many times its reported by myself because it creates quite a draft no one seems to acknowledge this problem as usual

Before the trains were refurbished didn't they have this 'lip' installed and, IIRC, I don't recall of ever hearing of anyone tripping over it or it being declared a H&S hazard? So, this being the case, surely begs the question 'what's changed?'

It would have to be a veritable tidal wave of coffee, Red Bull, soft drinks ex-McDonalds, Stella Artois, vomit (allocate time of day as appropriate) for that to not be adequate. I don't do 'militant' - but this is a case of two steps back - and I intend posing the question to my H&S rep at the next opportunity.

In actual fact I kept it going, I only had to go to Ealing from that cab and after a good rinse with boiled water it was OK, it was back to Upminster to finish. I have been keeping refurbs in service in case I get a non refurb as a changeover, and what I say about refurbs I still prefer them to the non refurbs.

Ok. I have spoken to my CPO colleague and it breaks down like this; We are going to get a price from MRSSL for putting a 'lip' back in, as a 'lip' (similar to what was there pre-refurb - yes I know!) seems to be the only viable option. Once I have this figure I will take it to my boss and try to see if we can get a business case for it. The figure will be hefty (LU staff - PM me if you want to know!) mainly because we have to subsidise the fact that these trains will not be available for service whilst the work is being carried out. I'm not saying it's going to happen but I am saying that I will give it a good run for it's money, but ultimately it is money that will be the deciding factor here. I am also going to 'bang the drum' with senior District line managers in order to try and get some high level support (that can't harm the business case!). Whilst I wasn't in the department when 'D' Stock refurb was in the planning stage, I am here now and acknowledge that this hasn't gone well in this area . I can say that the original project team for this refurb had the best of intentions here, looking for a clear detrainment throughway with no tripping hazard etc. I will do the best I can but can't promise anything at this stage other than to say I will keep you all posted.

That sounds all good prjb, and thanks for your efforts.
I think you know those of us here who can add support to the case.
From a business case point of view, I think I'd personally take the position that it was a defect in the spec, and therefore the reinstatement (for that is what it is) should not be to the cost of LU!
An option of course is that each time there is an ingress of fluids under the J door the train should be withdrawn from service, as the nature of the fluid is unknown?
Perhaps 'devils advocate', but a design fault - a recall is needed!!

If it's absolutely necessary to have no tripping hazards for a detrainment, would a folding lip of some kind be possible?
Or what about a rubber seal on the bottom of the door to fill the gap? That would probably be easier to retrofit without taking a train out of service for a prolonged period.
