So, Video125 have done all LU lines except the W&C, Bakerloo, Victoria. Does anyone know if they're gonna do these in the future? (Could be all on one DVD as well, considering the length of those lines in real time, let alone when Vid125 have edited the journey time between stations ( ) Also, just out of curiosity, does Rob Curling actually know a fair bit about trains himself, or does he just read off the script he's given?

I reckon if Video 125 filmed the Bakerloo there is a risk they'd only do it as far as Queens Park, as the main line from Euston is featured on one of their other (is it 'The Great Scot' or something?) productions. In fact in their entire lengths, the lines mentioned should all fit onto one DVD.
The only thing I can think of that may hinder the Vic line is the fact the door buttons are on each side of the cab. I know that the D stock is operated like this (to close the doors anyway) and a drivers eye view was filmed on one of those, but I don't know if a 67 stock cab is a lot smaller.
The production would feature lots of tunnels.
Finally as for Rob Curling, he was chosen for the 1989 film as it was thought he'd be recoginsable as a London figure. He was presenter of the then BBC London Plus programme, which became Newsroom South East and was so until the region broke up into BBC South East and BBC London. He was the longest serving presenter on BBC South East and now works on SKY Sports. The only thing was he was familiar to people living in London, but I can imagine people from other parts of the country were wondering the significance of his narration. As for his interest in trains, I don't know if he has but it wouldn't surprise me.

Rob Curling only does the LU ones - other narrators do the others.

The DC lines should be filmed, as they are not fully visible from the other DEV - they have their own route through Willesden and Wembley.
I do agree though that the Bakerloo, the Victoria and the W&C could all fit onto a single DVD.

Rob Curling was also a presenter on 'Railwatch', from 1988. Filmed in York, it covered the operations around the clock for one week. It became something of a challenge for us schoolkids to try and be seen in the background on York station, wearing bright coloured clothing!
I'll try and contact V125, to see if they have any plans for more LU DVDs. It would be interesting to 'do' the Central again, it having changed alot since 1992. Step forward T/O 92, your 15 minutes of fame awaits ;D

It'd be nice if the Central was filmed between North Acton and West Ruislip too.

From the Video 125 website:Driver's eye view WISH LIST PLANNED FILMING for 2006: (Note that these are entirely dependent upon permission being granted from the appropriate train company). DUBLIN TO BELFAST (The Enterprise) ABERDEEN to INVERNESS PARIS METRO (3 interesting lines) Other possibilities in the future (in alphabetical order) CAMBRIDGE to NORWICH via ELY and THETFORD CARDIFF VALLEYS, CHESTER TO HOLYHEAD CREWE to HOLYHEAD EXETER to BARNSTAPLE/OKEHAMPTON & GUNNISLAKE (Withered Arm) EXETER TO BASINGSTOKE via Salisbury (after route upgrade whenever that may be) GLASGOW CENTRAL TO EDINBURGH WAVERLE GRANTHAM TO SKEGNESS HOPE VALLEY LINE KENT COAST ROUTE, RAMSGATE TO LONDON VICTORIA via Margate, Chatham and Rochester. NEWCASTLE to CARLISLE, NORTH LONDON LINE PORTSMOUTH TO BRIGHTON AND HASTINGS READING TO LONDON WATERLOO via Staines SHREWSBURY TO ABERYSTWYTH & DEVILS BRIDGE (Cambrian Road) STRANRAER TO GLASGOW CENTRAL So no LU DEV planned for this year. Hope this helps David

Exeter to Basingstoke ay.............I bet that ones scaled down LOADS. As for London I think the NLL one will be ok, but if it's not filmed soon it won't include North Woolwich.

225 studios have already done the Central Line in 1998. But it's been ruined by drastic shortening of tunnel sections.
The Bakerloo was done yonks ago by an independant operation, under the Shamu Video Productions; the video was titled Eye of the Driver, and had an overlapped synthesised Rocky 'Survivor' theme tune... I've got the video if any one's interested send a PM. Production quality is a bit rough. It comes with a companion video Out of the Tunnel and Into The Depot [Stonebridge]

I've got that somewhere........a bit rough?! My ones nearly unwatchable!! Or have I got a dodgy one? It's quite old, as when he's prepping his train in London Road there's a load of un - refurbed 72's there as well. The depot shunter seems like a stern man!
The good thing is that you can see the CTBC and how he's braking and using it, must admit that 'Rocky' music is quite funny!
Actually am I right in assuming 'Shamu Productions' was in fact two Bakerloo T/ops with a camcorder?

Doesn't really fill you with confidence does it! Most narrators are local TV presenters, and i think have more of an interest in the geography than the trains. Pete Waterman is probably the best known celebrity train spotter. He had his own series on Channel 4.

The high point of the Bakerloo DEV on Shamu Video Productions, was when Martin whatever-his-name-was gets to Oxo C.
"Change here for the Baker, Bake, Victoria Line, Stand Clear of the Doors"
I just had to cringe. If you don't know what line you're driving on...? From what I can work out, it was rather ameteur, I presume done with Camcorders on Tripods. Having the camera above the T/Ops left shoulder was a good idea.
Rob Curling has done one, perhaps two other V125 DEV productions. I'll have a butchers at me collection and see which one it is...

A Victoria Line DEV would be very tedious and boring after a few minutes, as it's all in tunnel and all the stations look the same with that 1960's Blue/Grey tiling.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new Chiltern video - say Kidderminster to Marylebone?

I suppose my V125DEV wish list would be: Redhill to Reading or summat out of Waterloo.

Not that I've ever announced anything wrong before! "Tickets from Newcastle ple...... York even!" (Having just left York going North and "Due to this air conditioning fault in coach C if you wish to move to another train..... <hears laughing in coach> sorry, another COACH in THIS train, you are more than welcome to." Glasgow Central to Edinburgh would be interesting... not sure if they mean via Shotts or Carstairs though. Hope not Shotts as that is the most boring line you may ever travel on. Up front in a DVT from Glasgow to Edinburgh via Carstairs would be nice,

Rob Curling has narrated all the LU productions from Video 125, although his style of narration was a lot better on the 1989 'Metropolitan and District' than the recent ones. The tone of voice used in the 89 one was a lot more downbeat and also words such as 'incidentally' or 'etcetra' were not used over and over again (I know this has been discussed in other threads). Overall that first LU video was actaully quite good, even if the District bit was filmed in a C Stock As for my wish list, I think a SET Networker from Charing X to Gillingham (route 82), or maybe a real time Networker trip from Cannon St back to Cannon St via Sidcup, Slade Green and Woolwich (route code 47/87) would do me, seeing as most of LU has been done already.

How about one of the Clockwork Orange, both circles, some views of the Control Room, depot etc? Not seen any video material of this subway system with a wonderful history...

True but v boring and v slow. Very deceptive as the trains are smaller than a tube train and very very close to the tunnel walls, closer than the LU stuff. I doubt SPT would want anyone to film the network with the state it's in right now, wouldn't be a good advert at all!

Why, is it a bit, erm, lacking TLC??? Stations are looking ok as long as you don't look at the suicide pits containing some run off of the clyde. The track is in a very poor condition. If you are ever up here take a trip on it, you'll quickly see what I mean.

I sent an e-mail yesterday to Video 125, asking if they were planning any more LU DEVs. Here is their reply along with my original questions... Hi,
On looking at the 'wish list' section of your website, there are no London Underground DEVs mentioned. Have you filmed as much as you feel you can of the London Underground now? Yes
There has been some discussion on a London Underground internet forum I belong to about the possibility of your company producing a Bakerloo Line DEV or an updated Central Line with West Ruislip featured. Please can you let me know and I will post your answer in the 'Video 125' thread. The Bakerloo is beginning to look viable from the few letters we get. We never ever intended to do as much as we have. The last one runs over old ground for much of the route (bottom half of the Circle). An updated Central is a possibility but probably not commercially viable. It would take about 8 days to film and LUL charge £300.00 per hour. You can work out the sums for yourself. Very few would buy a SECOND Central even if it was different.
IF we do another London underground DVD it would probably not be until 2008 at the earliest.
Many thanks,
David Henderson
PS. When is the Paris Metro DEV likely to be released? We are hoping for this year (Christmas). That said we have not even had permission yet let alone arranged filming. We would be filming (if poss) lines 1,2,5, and 6 or parts thereof.
Thanks for you interest.
Bob Southgate (PA).
Well, there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. By the way Tom, at risk of being shot down in flames, I would be interested in seeing your Vic line DEV, even if it is only once

Hmm, I might be able to do a better deal on the £300 per hour fee...

Shame it would be nice to have a Bakerloo DEV this year seeing as it's the lines centenary, it could go from Elephant & Castle to Harrow & Wealdstone on a regular trip using 1972ts, and if there is a tour using the LTM's 38ts unit then they could do a specal DEV on it from Queen's Park to Elephant & Castle. This must take 90 min plus and would be more intresting and this could be the last chance to film a 1938ts working on the Bakerloo and a DEV from it would be great.

I think that's a good idea MetroCammel. Maybe it's an idea that another video company could look at, after all there are more production companies in the world than Video 125

Hi Joe, i spoke to video 125 a few days ago and they told me their next lu production would be the bakerloo coupled with the w&c. It will not be filmed until 2007 at the earliest. This year they will do 4 lines on the paris metro[subject to getting permission]. That will leave just the vic.
