I guess it's about time, although it's quite sad to see it go. I guess an extension from there to Liverpool street would be useless seeing as you can take the H&C line from Whitechapel to there anyway.

I heard that the cutting is going to be filled in, using material removed in the course of building other parts of the extension. Then I suppose the land will be sold - it must be worth a fair bit.

How long's the 'new' ELL gonna be? There's not really a simple answer to that question, as it will be merged into the National Rail network. The actual length of new track will be quite small, but it will create connections that allow services to run over other existing tracks.

So it's definitely gonna be run by NR probably with Notworkers then eh?

I dont think the decision had been made about whether the whole operation of services will be handed over to NR or left with LU - thats what Tim O Toole said a few months back at those Time to Talk lectures. He said it would be made in three months - which is now! He did express a preference for it to remain with LU though.
In terms of infrastructure, it will be a third rail type railway, allowing NR trains to run through, or conversely allowing the ELL trains to run on NR routes.

www.tfl.gov.uk/rail/initiatives/ell-introduction.shtml East London Line Proposed Services A national rail ‘Metro’ type service will be provided using train units made up of four carriages. 19 units will be needed for phase one; a total of 30 units will be needed to deliver services when phase two is added. The proposed service pattern for phase one of the East London Line Project will be as follows: * 4 trains per hour from Dalston Junction to New Cross. * 4 trains per hour from Dalston Junction to Crystal Palace. * 4 trains per hour from Dalston Junction to West Croydon. This equates to 12 trains per hour in each direction through the centre section. When phase two is delivered, the frequency will increase to 16 trains an hour. Phase one is expected to be in place by June 2010.

Will the current ELL train ops have an oppourtunity to drive the new metro service, or will they be transferred to other LU lines?

Will the current ELL train ops have an oppourtunity to drive the new metro service, or will they be transferred to other LU lines? They will be offered the choice of staying within the new regime, or redeployment within LUL. What will be offered in regard to redeployment is anyones guess at the moment. In any case, should their new positions have inferior pay, they would be entitled to three years (?) protected earnings as per employment laws. I must admit, i'm considering a transfer to the East London line purely because it's closer to home, but it depends if I can keep my name on Upminster's waiting list.............

A shame really considering the East London Line's historical connections...

One less line on LU, perhaps, but one more on LR (London Rail) - besides, the LR roundel is close enough to the LU roundel that no one will really notice the different management.

Particuarlly if they still show it on the maps, and I don't see why they'd want to remove it.

Would it be worth using Shoreditch as an emergency turn around point like Charing X? Or... as a stable point for a train.

If the ELL stops being part of LUL, what will happen to St Mary's Corner? It connects the 2 infastructures so would it just be locked off at the points of both ends and left or used for transfers of maintainence materials?
Just wondering, any ideas?

A shame really considering the East London Line's historical connections... If this wasn't happing LUL might have kept some units of A stock to run the line after the main fleet was replaced intill the D stock was replaced. The new S stock would have then take over from the A stock.

If it is to stay on the map, I'm assuming it will loose its colour? And, for that matter, does that mean one less line on this forum aswell....
