Sounds like everyone had a good day. I caught it at Victoria at 1524 and rode in the leading car to Monument. The train op was obviously in the spirit of things as he blew the whistle often and made announcements about it being the last D stock train etc. A bit of history.

Rostered drivers all day AIUI. There were drivers rostered for it, but it had been commandeered by a more enthusiastic I/Op when i was on this morning.

I would like to say thank you to everyone involved in this forum for making today so enjoyable. Personally I left work early to board at Monument for the final run to Upminster, and rode back to Earls Court on the final journey, in the front car throughout. It was wonderful to talk and swap stories with others, my first District Dave inspired event. Was also nice to chat to many young enthusiasts seeing the D off, students and even high school aged fans. Thanks to everyone who posted 'whereabouts' and running information to enable those of us not privy to inner tfl workings and information to enjoy the day and to plan where to rendezvous with the train.

A short video, intended to be nothing more than a few video snapshots of my day riding and chasing the last train. All footage from today - I resisted adding even a few seconds of historic footage. That will come later...
Whilst it is probable that some D stock cars will find a second life as Vivarail trains, and of course there will be the RAT trains, it is still my understanding that only the DM's and T's are being retained, with the entire fleet of UNDM's being scrapped. Or am I wrong on this?

I've worked my way through 701 images today [am I that sad I get so trigger happy]. The images start at Richmond, when I was thwarted earlier in the day when Train 004 was reversed at Gunnersbury, however I managed to capture it arriving at Richmond in the afternoon. Meeting up with it again at South Kensington I traveled with it to North Ealing. The images also record the train entering Ealing Common Depot. Mainline EMUs, Overground and 73TS also feature. Many thanks to LU staff for operating the service in great humour. Here's to the railtour in two weeks Oh and before I forget.... my images are HERE

Will the train have a special 'farewell' headboard? Simon Indeed it will. Thanks. Indeed it did, and for those old enough to have known the CO & CP Stocks, there was additional information at the correct location. See photo here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CP_%26_R_at_Upminster.jpg(One of mine which I've just discovered has not yet made it to Flickr) Simon

The day was awesome, meeting new people, as well as meeting up with a few old friends (including two from my old school!). The last journey was notably busy, but me and two of my friends 3 of the 8 transverse seats in the front car. As it left my favourite local, Chiswick Park, my "curse" (omen, surely?) of seeing D Stock everywhere even when others would barely see them had finally ended. It was a great send-off to the stock which I've been around since I was born! I got my shots early as I live on the western end, and apart from a few shots at West Ham, spent the rest of the day riding the train. I brought that little fox (#DStockFox) throughout the day, bringing a little quirkiness to the day Thanks to all who was there, whether I did meet you or not. And hopefully the chocolates and cookies did people well throughout the day

I grew up with the Q, COP and R stocks and was sorry to see all of them go. But I'm also sorry to see the Ds being retired, as much as I like the S stock.
A big thank you to all of you who have documented the end. It's been fascinating to watch. And thanks to the LU staff who made it happen.

I would just like to thank all the forum users that posted helpful updates throughout the day. A quick dash out of work meant I could pick up the final working at Aldgate East (also helped by the delay after the siding routing) and enjoy the ride to Ealing Broadway. I was at the front of car 3 and another chap also got on with me at Aldgate East clearly after his last D Stock ride - if you are a forum member do say hello. Was a good mix of ordinary customers and enthusiasts of all ages which made for a pleasant atmosphere. My good wife (a daily District Line commuter) even made it to Gloucester Rd in time to join us. Glad everyone had fun and from what I could see was in good spirits, friendly and well behaved. Plenty of questions from ordinary punters including the guy sat next to me who was puzzled as to what was going on on his normal journey home Finally a well done to all involved behind the scenes.

So which train is being used for the tour, and when will it be transferred to Upminster? The tour starts from High Street so will be provided from Ealing. 7032+7007 and 7526+7037 will both remain available (unless the plan has changed since Thursday!). Only one reservation, about the hashtag: some on Twitter have said that it has a certain connotation with, um, a certain private part (blame the internet memes). I would have gone with #FarewellD78.

Gutted to have missed all the fun yesterday. I had planned a ride on the final trip as well as going on the rail tour in a couple of weeks time, but some family problems changed everything. I've just gone through Ealing Common and had a final look at the Last Three sitting in the depot. A sad sight.

Now that the D-Stock has retired, there will be a very long interval until the next trains are withdrawn..

Probably going to be the '72 or '73 stock when the Deep Tube Upgrade Program is in full swing, though we could see the '92 stock go first All three of these have been mooted for the next stock to be withdrawn, but I believe the current idea of the 'first in line' are the 73 stock. Plenty could change though! However, this is off topic, and as I didn't attend the final passenger run of 7007/7032, I will bow out here...

Please use the Rolling Stock board to discuss future stock replacements. This thread is about the D stock's final day.

I also would like to thank everyone for keeping up to date with proceedings on the day and this week. I was unable to attend the last day but have managed a trip in the week thanks to the updates posted. There was some good media coverage, however the BBC managed to say farewell to the D stock with the second shot on their video being a C stock train. It was still on their website a few minutes ago under the UK news.(2300 Saturday)
