Assuming there's agreement with the unions over Night Tube, the sensible date to bring in NT would be in mid December when we change the timetables anyway. Mind you, LU doesn't always do the sensible thing. Underground timetables don't usually change in December. National rail do. But isn't the sub surface timetabling now effectively tied in to the NR change dates - May and December - given the linkage with Chiltern plus other interworkings like LOROL on the Richmond line? I know other lines change on othe dates. The night tube does present an additional complication though. I wonder what LU has done by way of contingency to allow for an expansion of night tube frequencies *if* demand proves too much for the initial service levels? Could be embarrassing if services can't be expanded quickly if there are people stuck on platforms unable to board trains.

True, but the only Night Tube line that would be affected is the Piccadilly, and then only because it is interlinked with the SSR network.

TT53 came in on the 14 December 2014, with TT54 starting on 17 May 2015. The next change is due on the 13 December 2015, although NT might come in before that.

Underground timetables don't usually change in December. National rail do. I've been to two Christmas forum socials where we were celebrating the last of something before a timetable change the next day, Chesham Shuttle and Circle Line.

As has been mentioned, the SSR (and consequently the Piccadilly as well) have to tie in with National Rail timetable changes because of shared infrastructure. Presumably the Bakerloo does too. So that's actually most lines!

NR interacts with District, that interacts with the Piccadilly, that interacts with the Met, that interacts with the H&C, that interacts with the District.

The Met and Bakerloo also interact with NR.

So essentially, the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City, District, Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines are all affected by timetable changes on NR. That's 6/11!

However, the point I was trying to make is that only one of those lines will actually have a Night Tube service. So the point that was raised about waiting until December to bring in the Night Tube is only relevant to the Piccadilly line. The other Night Tube lines (Central, Northern, Jubilee and Victoria) are not affected.

but the night tube on the Piccadilly line will have to take account of the timetables on those lines, unless the first night train is after the last day tube on the other lines (and similarly for the early morning trains).

If we change the TT on the Piccadilly line, all other lines have to change theirs too. The train numbering in TT55 for NT is different during the day than the current TT, so the other lines we interact with, District and Met have to change their TTs accordingly.
For running a railway, it makes more sense to wait until the usual December change. Duty sheets, train registers, computers, program machine rolls etc all need to be changed for three railways. Bringing NT in during October for just two months is a waste of time and money.

Although a Timetable Notice (TTN88/15) will be issued on the District for Night Tube introduction on other Lines, WTT147 issued 17 May 2015 will continue in operation until 17 December 2016.

I thought there would be one this December to coincide with the likely change to C2C's timetable at least?

Could have done with Night Tube on the first supposed day of its running, 4 Sept. 4 hour delay returning from Edinburgh owing to stolen cables on ECML near Darlington. Very nearly missed the last Tube out to the far reaches of the Central Line! The assurance of Night Tube every 20 mins would have been very welcome as our train ambled down the WCML....

The train operator should be responsible for arranging to get you home if that happens - and there are always night buses (the N8 more or less duplicates the Central Line)

Could have done with Night Tube on the first supposed day of its running, 4 Sept. The launch date was always this coming weekend, 12/13 September, not 5/6 Sept, which would have been purely 'test' running, so wouldn't have been much help to you anyway! ;-)

The City A.M. newspaper today are reporting that the Night Tube may not start until March 2016. I find that somewhat surprising to be honest. Makes me wonder if a "source" has planted that date "out there" so when Night Tube starts earlier than that it looks like a positive result. I understand why people are keeping their "powder dry" but there must be some background pressure to get the scheme in prior to the festive season for very obvious reasons. It couldn't slip much beyond March 2016 because you quickly run into the purdah provisions for the 2016 Mayoral Election which would stop any new openings, service starts etc that could be linked to the Mayoralty. You then be looking at June for a start date *if* the new Mayor didn't call for a review of the scheme.

The train operator should be responsible for arranging to get you home if that happens - and there are always night buses (the N8 more or less duplicates the Central Line) Whether the NR TOC is responsible for this depends on your ticket, and their attitude. Also, whatever may be stated in the NRCOC is wholly different from what the lone attendant very late at night will tell you, so even if you are entitled to be taken home you may find yourself stuck! I believe that if you have a ticket from (say) Edinburgh to London Terminals, NR's responsibility for you finishes there - they do not care about your onward connection, as it is on a TfL ticket. However, if you had a ticket from Edinburgh to London Terminals + Z1-6, you would argue that your ticket is covering the whole journey and so the TOC has a responsibility to get you to your destination - probably by requisitioning a taxi. They would of course already be providing a refund on the ticket on such a lengthy delay. However, I would suspect you would have to argue for it!

Any updates on a possible start date yet? Negotiations are still continuing slowly with the Trade Unions as to how the Night Tube should be implemented, rather than when.

Our tickets were to and from London terminals and TOC responsibility did indeed end there. However, Sir R Branson has now refunded us. Nobody on Newcastle-Carlisle or Carlisle-WCML-Euston queried the ECML tickets, although not all the conductors had heard of the Darlington blockage! N8 goes nowhere near Loughton/Epping, I fear!

You then be looking at June for a start date *if* the new Mayor didn't call for a review of the scheme. The Mayoral campaign is now divided into two campaigns for the purposes of election law. What is known as the "long campaign" starts on Saturday 19th December, and runs to 5th May polling day. The "short campaign" starts on Monday 28th March and again runs to polling day on 5th May, so LU may be even more limited on when they can bring in Night Tube.

Night tube - Euston station
Over the past couple of days, I have started noticing extra signage at Euston Station. Signs to the CX branch and the Victoria line have a night owl added to them, signs to the Bank branch have a "last train at 00:28" or words to that effect.
I presume that similar signage might have appeared at other stations where not every platform will have an all-night service.
The times I go through Euston are not times to try to take any photos, sorry.

Talks on the Night Tube have collapsed as Unions have not reached a deal, looks like the service may not start this year.
