I have a nice thick book named "Signalling Diagrams". Recommended reading for anyone interested in counting signals :-)

Sorry I did not make myself clear are you including repeater and shunt signals that you have to drive past or the whole line as such?

Yes, included repeaters and shunts. I didn't have an exact figure but it's around that!

These are the sort of facts that some instructors and instructor operators throw around to try and impress

Too much time on your hands I suspect that you are right, the person who gave me the numbers must have been very dedicated.

Far too much waffle in here. Can we get back to discussing Night Tube, rather than counting signals. Thanks.

Sorry if I've missed it (been dipping in and out), but does the brief tangent about signals on the Picc relate to the fact that there's a start date being floated internally for start dates on Picc and/or Northern? (Been off for over a week with no access to intranet obviously)

OK, so back to the subject. To be able to provide the service as intended, we may be ready on the Picc sometime in January. However, there may be pressure from Mr Khan to commence the service before Xmas and if we do, it may be with a bit of a reduced service.

I doubt if that would be allowed, unless the reduced service involved closing a branch.
I think the service level was specified by the BTP.

Latest internal documents (at least those going round station side) are still saying Autumn, rather than January. There is a specific time frame, but it's not for the public domain just yet.
Watch this space...

Not all stations will rack them all week. We (At King's Cross) only out them out on Friday and Saturday nights.
The poster maps are still up, and remain up all week round.

I haven't seen any pocket maps on the stations I work at. I'll ask about them tonight. The posters are in use though.

Not every station has then; what group are you on? Victoria line north. Should have had a small delivery for the launch. It's possible that they all went quickly, as it was a very limited run...

Last weekend I was in London and decided to have a little try of Night Tube. Before taking a Night Tube I saw the last northbound Bakerloo Line train leave Oxford Circus, it was rammed full. By contrast the Victoria Line train that I caught after this was lightly loaded - plenty of spare seats with about a dozen other people in my car. The last northbound Northern Line train (bank branch) was, like the Bakerloo train, filled to the brim. The Central Line train I took was, like the Victoria Line, loaded quite lightly. My feeling is that Night Tube has reduced the pressure on the last train. Knowing that the last train is 0030, means you aim for that train - knowing that you can get home at any time means that people head home when they've finished their activity for the night. Now I must admit that I didn't stay up late as I had something planned at 10am the next day, so don't know what it was like later on - but I get the feeling that it may have eliminated the surges of people.

It differs from week to week and from line to line. The common factor is last mainline trains - by-and-large these still finish at around midnight, with many still having to get home, or slum it until the morning. The last-train surge of Londoners has slowed, but was in reality never that great any (many using night buses as they finish closer to their doors!). There's still a surge at around 0330-0400 - roughly club kick-out time, once you've got your kebab and chips - and it's not been uncommon to see full-and-standing trains... or, at least, a train in each direction. After that, it tends to be dead until around the traditional first train time. It'll be interesting to see what happens once the Jubilee line launches this week, and any further subsequent launches thereafter.
