I'd imagine it's because they're used to the system with the passengers they'll have on the overnight service. They cannot predict how the infrastructure will react to that much pressure at once without a relief

Hi, I am awaiting a training date for CSA 1 Night tube having applied in November 2015 and completed my on boarding on the 23rd March 2016 it’s been a long wait. If anyone knows when training might start for CSA 1 night tube, or the hold ups I would be grateful to hear! There is much written about it on Wikkijobs forums but these seem to be guess work and rumour rather than fact or informed opinion.

Some night tube CSA's are already working, certainly at Baker street there are some working nights, doing the last couple of hours traffic and the first couple in the morningI would think about dropping them an email.

Recruitment and training across TfL is currently frozen, so it's difficult to answer your question. I appreciate the wait is frustrating (I've been there myself), but it will be worth it in the end. Hang tight!
Most of what you read online will be guesswork on the part of those posters for the reason above.

Oh well I guess that's the impact of the "root and branch" review required by the Mayor.

This would tie in with what a friend of mine was told who'd been successful with the Train Op role for Night Tube:
Thank you again for your interest in the above campaign, we wanted to update you on the progress of your application. We are currently reviewing our operational priorities and as you can imagine with such a large organisation it is taking some time. For this reason we are not able to give you an update in regards to your application and we would like to thank you for your patience during this busy time. We can assure you that we will update you as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you and we will endeavour to contact you again within the next few weeks to provide a further update on your application.
In other words, they're got loads of people who've got through, the first trance of NT drivers are trained and working and not able to drive and they don't want to take anyone else on at the moment.

Oh well I guess that's the impact of the "root and branch" review required by the Mayor. Hopefully it won't go on for too long, but it's certainly a welcome review from many of us on the ground. We'll see what the outcome is! To everyone else: once again, do hang in there with the wait, and remember that you are already through the hardest stage which is getting in! Of course, though, this is why all the adverts are worded as being for a 'Talent Pool' with no guarantee of a job immediately... they will come, eventually! Incidentally, with regards to CSA2s, I understand that this role is being included within the review, and there are still some Union rumblings too. The first cohort should be on stations imminently, and have interestingly been trained as and given full CSA1 licenses. Because no-one saw that coming...!

From the advert placed back in March 2016 CSA 2s are about to start training, I am still waiting for night tube CSA 1 training from November 2015, Do we know if CSA 1’s are still a job role or have these been replaced? I.e. no more CSA 1 only CSA 2?

I.e. no more CSA 1 only CSA 2? CSA 1 does remain a job role, however there are currently no CSA 1 training courses being run. The focus is having enough CSA 2s ready to go before Fit for the Future transfers and promotions kick in, which will see more vacancies created at the lower grade. This is unlikely to create any significant number of CSA 1 roles as a large number of CSS 1, CSS 2 and CSA 1s are currently 'covering down' as CSA 2s.

I'm very disappointed but will look to apply for a CSA 2 or other role should it be advertised but I will have to go though the tests, and role play again as well as all on boarding. I just wish someone told me before.

I would be careful with what you say/do. While there are people in the know on this forum, nothing talked about here is 'official' in any way. It might be worth phoning up HR and seeing if they have any date to give you for training.

I'M very disappointed, I phone On Boarding and although they were kind and understanding, I was advised to keep looking at the jobs board and apply for something else.

I just wish someone told me before. If you are happy to work as a CSA 2 call up HR and make this known; they may have filled the current quota, but will no doubt keep this in mind for the future. I am aware of others 'transferring' in this way, although obviously it comes with the associated drop in pay. With regards to your (now removed) comments, it was made very clear from the application stage that there were no guarantees of an immediate job or an immediate start - the application was for the 'talent pool', which you will remain in indefinitely until you either withdraw or get a job offer. Many of my colleagues (and indeed myself) have waited far longer than three months to even go from application to interview - the longest I am aware of is five years, only being taken on eventually around the time of the Olympics. As an aside, regarding the March campaign, many of us were surprised that it even appeared (and subsequently were not surprised that it disappeared after less than 48 hours) due to my previous comments. I have no doubt that those who were successful will be offered jobs once they become available, after the start of CSA2s and the completion of the interim transfer & promotion process. But as luacton points out, none of this is official gospel, just informed comment to try and help you out. It is frustrating, and I wish you the best of luck with the continued delays. Trust me - the Fit for the Future changes are just as frustrating for those of us on the 'inside', so to speak...

I applied back in September 2015, Online test in November 2015 Phone IV in Feb 2016, Test and IV in March 2016 and on boarding medicle etc complete 23rd march 2016. I did inform them i'm more then happy to do CSA 2 etc to get my foot in the door back in March 2016. Going forward I'll apply for anything that comes up again and wait. I'm not sure how far the recently introduced zero recruitment policy will go.
It is certain that more cut backs will be required given the fares freeze.
Looking elsewhere might be more sensible.

Would they not go ahead with the Central Line alone if need be, just to make a point?

Would they not go ahead with the Central Line alone if need be, just to make a point? ...hasn't the Central Line recently suffered from a lot of unreliability issues as a result of power failures. I don't want to be the one to put the cherry on the cake here, but there won't be much of a point to make if the line suffers from constant disruption. Let's not forget the never ending problems that occur on the present 92TS fleet and lack of reversing facilities between MAA and BEG.

Patrickb, this is politics, not engineering..... So what? Between launching the Night Tube with the most unreliable line at present on the network and delaying the launch, I would choose the latter.

With every man and his dog looking to have an all night tube 'party' Along with the brand new inexperienced drivers, the unreliable stock and signalling will prove an interesting first few nights.

The Victoria line is all set to start all night running. Can't see the date changing again now.

So will there be a pocket map produced for the Night Tube as there is for the daytime service, if so have any been seen at Central/ Victoria line stations?

Should be done like that chap on Dragon's Den. Printed on washable fabric that you can crumple up and put into your pocket. Definitely the washable bit.

So will there be a pocket map produced for the Night Tube as there is for the daytime service, if so have any been seen at Central/ Victoria line stations? I would argue that you could still navigate the network with present diagrams provided that you knew which sections operate. Information regarding which services operate at night would be best displayed inside a carriage instead of inside a pocket map. Interior Car Line diagrams would display interchanges with other services that operate at night. ie: Holborn, Finsbury Park, Stockwell. Stations like Piccadilly Circus will have no interchange. Maps will be displayed around stations, afaik I have seen none on the east end of the Central Line nor have Night Tube pocket maps been issued. TfL could make the case for a Pocket Map by having it include information about West End Theaters, bars and other late-night entertainment venues etc...

No maps or anything on the Victoria line stations that I work at. Oh except for a few advertising posters about night tube which we put up last week. I've worked as a night tube CSA with no night tube for just over a year, and now it starts I'll be on leave.. such bad timing!
Enjoy your training David. I really enjoyed mine. The cameraderie was great and we had a good time.

That "night sky" poster seems tarnished by the previous attempt to be effective: I could have tried something better with Tooting the Owl instead, but my health is too atrocious to try anything at the moment.
