Where could a D stock go "off route" on a tour?. Presumably the Met is Ok if they can get there? Can they run up the Picc to Rayners Lane and reverse? The 'off-line' Tour was provisionally pencilled in for Sunday 7 August but due to several reasons had to be cancelled before publicly was announced. The Tour to be arranged and run after the D Stock finish LU passenger service will most likely be an on-line Tour.

As to where they could theoretically go, I think they can still get to Northfields and certainly up the Picc as far as South Harrow. If they can reach Rayners Lane (I don't know) then Uxbridge shouldn't be a problem. I think the main restriction on the west side of the circle is platform length (unlikely to be a blocker for a tour) and signalling berths at Edgware Road (which might be). The A-stock reached Aldgate and could run Liverpool Street-Aldgate East to reach St Mary's Curve, so accessing the east side of the circle could be possible with a D. One train length beyond Gunnersbury junction towards South Acton can be done but whether it would be worth it is less clear.
If what Dstock7080 says is correct though, it seems this is entirely theoretical.

They could go to Edgware Road but not quite sure since the signalling mods a few years ago now. If memory serves me right they had to go into the far left the normally through road and then do the back shunt into the platform as they couldn't reverse in the centre platforms. They are not gauged to Hammersmith (H&C) but can go via Aldgate to Baker Street (Met) as a few months ago now one ended up at Amersham
They are gauged also to go to Hounslow Central and reverse west to east but you find more then likely only as far as Northfields. And they certainly can go to Rayners Lane I have first hand experience of that.
They won't be able to get to Stanmore no more unless a full line suspension is taken on the Jubilee Line due to lack of trainstops.

Would like to see 7004-7005 do the honours, or 7115-7534.
Are any of our resident District line drivers going to put themselves forward to drive either the last passenger run, or the farewell tour?

Regarding the farewell tour board, I do not think there is anything wrong with a headboard similar to the 1967 stock, as long it can be cracked apart in case of an evacuation. I have been looking through the D78 archive as well as the past farewell railtour headboards, and I was thinking of something fresh by design, as in squares or rectangles are boring.

The obvious (to me) alternative shapes are a roundel, a "D" or the outline of a D-stock viewed head-on.

It depends on the production method really. I make cast aluminium ones and whilst they can be any shape, history has shown that it's generally a case of the simpler the better. It would also depend on if D Stock have lamp irons, and if so - where?

Actually, I am asking for a higher resolution image of the District Railway Crest right now to see what I can come up with, and in 3D. And it’s all because of: Which means that we cannot confine ourselves to one layer.

*All the D stock vehicles, aside those required for the new RAT, have been sold for scrap, or to Vivarail for the D-train project (which has gone silent) A batch of them also ended up having a load of rubble chucked on them for that recent big emergency exercise.

They hadn't when I wrote my post over a year ago.

Not sure what a District Railway crest has to do with D stock. As the last trains designed specifically for the District (rather than a one-size-fits-all compromise) I think it would be eminently appropriate. It would also depend on if D Stock have lamp irons, and if so - where? Perhaps it could be clamped to the grab rail on one side of the end door or, if the unit is a 75xx, fixed into the points where the "curtains" are designed to go when the cab is in the middle of the train.

I've no idea if it could be possible but it would be great to see a Vivarail train parked somewhere where the two could be filmed side by side.
I would imagine that Richmond has platform capacity for this, possibly also Ealing Broadway? The regular service to Wimbledon might be too frequent for this to be possible?
Another option could possibly be somewhere like HSK Platform 4, a bay platform such as Plaistow...

Indeed one did go via Aldgate junction via baker street to Amersham and it was yours truly that had the honour in driving the train all the way up to Amersham I have spoken to 2 colleagues who have put there name down to drive the last train. Obviously won't reveal names on a public forum for obvious reasons but those who know me from work and my depot could possibly hazard a guess. One them has been on the line for years so I hope he gets to drive the last one Regarding C stock I loved driving them and using the Westinghouse brake where I could always make the locals less boring going up and down and kept you on the ball lol

Was it both flags up when you took it to Amersham to get the extra speed ?

No just the coaster flag it was a good enough unit and we were following a chiltern past HOTH anyway so wanted to keep our distance

Im sure someones said this above, but I think it would be rather nice if LU painted, or unpainted, a full set of D Stock for the final days of D Stock operation and the farewell tour. Especially since its the last of the 'proper' Sub Surface Stock im sure itd bring back some memories of days gone by.

Especially since its the last of the 'proper' Sub Surface Stock im sure itd bring back some memories of days gone by. It would cost an inordinate amount to satisfy a relatively small group of people. Would you also have it refitted inside? We have to be realistic here and appreciate that some would claim the CO/CP or R stock as the last "proper" SSS and that one day teary eyed enthusiasts will be saying the same about S Stock. They're all just progressions from the previous incarnation. Unless there's a plan for a heritage unit, which I don't think there is, a train representing the D Stock in its last days would be the most appropriate to my way of thinking.

And "unpainted" sounds hideously expensive! I suspect that it could be vinyled so as to appear unpainted - if someone were to pay for it. The latter being the key factor of course (I know it would only take a couple of days to apply, but I have no idea how long it would take to design and manufacture the vinyl)

I'm not sure vinyl would be able to recreate the effect of the aluminium though. But anyway, we drift...

Has there been any further progress on a farewell tour? It's looking like a few D's are staying in service until at least February, if not longer. So nothing immediate in the pipeline in terms of a tour.

Following the withdrawal on 04/01/2017 are there any indications of a tour date?
