I spent several hours on the District line yesterday (Feb 18th). I saw most of the off peak sets, only two sets of S stock were seen. There were signalling problems between Dagenham and Upminster in the afternoon. Train 1 1243 ex Upminster got through on time but train 26 behind it was nearly 40 mins late when it got to Earls Court. Westbound trains from Barking/Tower Hill that normally go to Wimbledon were diverted alternately to Ealing/Richmond. Train 54 eastbound was diverted to High Street Kensington and then headed west to Ealing Broadway at approx 1445. When the westbound late runners eventually made it to Earls Court, some were sent to Parsons Green to get them back on time.

And does any one have a full D stock car list of whats usually togeather and thé same for district line S stock? On D Stock it is only necessary to take one car number from each 3-car unit, that forms a 6-car train, usually the end Driving Motor (DM) car. This thread give the current status of D Stock, although not the most recent formation report: D Stock Withdrawal listS7 Stock are mixed between 3 Lines; Circle, Hammersmith & City, District. There are no 'allocated District Line' trains. S Stock, both S7 and S8 are formed into fixed 7-car or 8-car formations, and the intention is not to split them.

When noting down thé numbers, how comes you only take note of 2 or 3 cars and not all of thé? From 1935 stock onwards, all London Underground stock has run in fixed formations, and thus one car number will identify the whole unit. By convention, the DM with the lowest number is usually used, but with double-ended 1973 and D stock the DM that happens to be at the end of the train is often cited whether it is the odd or even one) Usually the individual cars in each unit share the same last two or three digits, or are consecutive odd/even pairs*. Thus, for D stock 3-car single-ended unit 7015 is made up of cars 7015, 17015, and 8015, while double-ended unit 7514 is made up of 7514, 17514 and 7515. * exceptions were the intermediate cars in O, P, 1938, and 1960 stock, and the extra cars inserted in R stock when they were converted from mixed 6/8 car formations to permanent 7-car formations. In other stocks, cars transferred between units (e.g to make one good unit out of two damaged ones) have even been renumbered to fit their new partners - examples of such changes can be found in A, C, 1959, 1967 and 1972 stocks, and probably others as well.

This list is a pretty good list of all the cars, and notes which ones have now left LU.=, as well as some other anecdotes where applicable. Hope that helps

Each 6 car train is made up of 2 of the 3 car ones coupled together. You'll have to rely on the reports in this thread to piece together the 6 car formations, as they can be (and are) changed semi-frequently. Unfortunately, there haven't been many reports recently but looking at the most recent report for example: born1962 reported in may that 7044+7097 were operating train 026. The 6 car formation would look like this:
West< 7044+17044+8044+8097+17097+7097 >East

Picc units are numbered 1xy-5xy-3xy or 2xy-6xy-4xy or, for double ended units, 8xy-6xy-8xz (where z = y+1) The trailers' 6xy numbers (even only) start at 654, following on from the single-ended units, and the DM's numbers start at 854/855 to match the trailers A-end DMs have even numbers, D-end DMs have odd numbers. there is no difference between 1xy and 2xy units, there are simply too many to fit in a single block of a hundred So you might have 105-505-305+881-680-880 D stock is 70xy-170xy-80xy, or 71xy-171xy-81xy, or (double enders) 75xy-175xy-75xz Complete list of numbering from 1967-1996 stocks here www.tubeprune.com/ident-rs.html. To complete the list 1956/59/62 stock was numbered 1wxy-2wxy-9wxz-1wxz (with the 9wxz car omitted from 3-car units) 2009 stock is number 110xy- 120xy-130xy-140xy+140xz-130xz-120xz-110xz (i,e the first digit is "1", the second digit is the position in the train counting from the nearest end, the last digit is odd or even depending whether it is an A unit or a D unit S stock is similar, except it starts with a "2", the third digit is not necessarily 0 (0 or 1 for S8 stock, 3,4 or 5 for S7 stock), odd-numbered 23xxx cars are omitted in S7 trains, and even-numbered 23xxx cars 23002-056 and 23302-386) are replaced by 25xxx cars, which have de-icing equipment. (23456 exists, but 22222 does not!) See also en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground_rolling_stock_numbering_and_classification

A few D stock formations from Monday 5th October:
7028 + 7121 030 7048 + 7127 7080 + 7103 7092 + 7071 7098 + 7509 001 7526 + 7115 7528 + 7011
Does anyone know which units 7034 (operating train 034) and 7068 (train 035) were formed with on that day? I filmed both trains but forgot to write down the numbers, and they aren't clear in the videos. The unit with 7034 appears to have been either 7073 or 7075 but I could be wrong about that.

I do wonder if Dstock7080 was able to get some numbers from his namesake before it left Ealing for the last time?

The number plates are being removed as they are scrapped, to be sold at the LTM depot.

Probably. I do wonder if Dstock7080 was able to get some numbers from his namesake before it left Ealing for the last time? Actually, i photographed the units going into the Museum compound and didn't even think of it! Shows how trustworthy i am!

For anyone following the last few months of 'D' stock operation, class leader 7000 is still with us and was out today {coupled with 7525} on diagram 011, Upminster/Richmond. Richard M.

Although sadly one half of the first D Stock in passenger service on 28 January 1980, 7528 has this week departed for pastures new.
