Likely the trip from Chalfont to Chesham and return will be available to usual passengers the booked Chesham train being diverted to Amersham. I think this happened when previous special trains have run to Chesham I bet that will go down like a brick. Not only do they have to change trains, but have to leave their shiny new S stock for an old 1960 A stock with no seats available. ;D ;D ;D

How will they make sure that nobody "stows away" on the train after sneaking on at Chesham? Lunch break at Chalfont or shortly thereafter? Check all tickets at the re-start. Go Chesham, Chalfont, Amersham - then normal passengers for Rickmansworth and beyond would not be tempted to stay on board.

At this rate what's the 150 year celebrations gonna be like? Steam train round the Circle = £300 Far more than than that when fire insurance is included.

Far more than than that when fire insurance is included. ;D norbitonflyer, I can see the merits of terminating at Chalfont, reversing and then doing lunch at Amersham, it would get a lot of the people off but the reversal would have to be pretty quick so it didn't hold up the rest of the service. With two drivers this should be achievable. However, has LUL/LTM set this timetable in stone or not? I haven't seen a special notice for it yet............

Boris should attend this. He was so for the S Stock that his presence would be good for PR.

As the tour starts at Moorgate that would be your best chance to see the two stocks side by side.

I'll be there because this is a part of my life I may never be able to experience again. Not so, a unit of A 60 stock used for track adhesion duties will be maintained for passenger use on special occasions.

Uxbridge - Aldgate (using very old A4 code.... So old that as far as I know it never actually existed, such trains using the A3 or BK3 codes instead.

The '4' applied in the other direction - semi fast "to" Uxbridge - UX4. All stations Uxbridge UXO and, for those of us senior enough to remember, UXA for those that went over the Bakerloo/Jubilee early/late on a Sunday - and yes, I'm afraid I do recall them, and it was with 4-car trains too in those days!
Perhaps wandering off topic (apols!), there was also an AA description (Aldgate all local stations), used by southbound Circles ex-Neasden/Wembley Park early on Sunday mornings than ran via the Bakerloo/Jubilee.

Thanks Harsig, I thought you'd know if I'd got that right or not The '4' applied in the other direction - semi fast "to" Uxbridge - UX4. Many thanks Reganorak, that's very interesting stuff! I love it when threads yield some interesting info such as this, and being connected with the journeys that the A60s would have worked over their lifetime, seems fitting! I can remember the UXA/BKA trips being around (though I never travelled on them) when I was a teenager, and WTT305 (26th Jan 1997) indeed has these early morning and late at night, pure gold! Going back to the tour, if the Museum/LUL have set the plans in stone, our opportunity to (maybe) see these old workings resurrected for a day has probably passed by.........

No chance of any 'A' workings (train descriptions, not stock!!) any more (e.g. UXA, BKA etc) because there is no way the Met can run via the Jubilee in either direction now - new signalling and what goes with it, of course, progress

£40 is a bit too much :/ I wonder if there is any chance of a student ticket being available? Seeing as you can get one to enter the LTM surely its possible?

I have been assured that if you do think £40 is too much to pay for the farewell A Stock trip the you certainly won't like the price of the Steam Special Trips to be run in connection with the MET 150 Anniversary.

I am a member of the London Transport Museum Friends and am not sure if I will get a discount, somewhat I doubt it, and quite frankly I don't care, as I believe the profit will go to good causes. BTW do university students get discounted drinks at the uni bar?

I guess part of the problem is that there are silly fools out there prepared to pay rediculous amounts for the luggage racks, so as for actually travelling on an actual train... *ker ching!*

The luggage racks aren't selling and I suppose we'll have to wait and see what the actual prices are for the Steam Specials but expect it to be quite high, given the rarity of the event that will take place, and the cost of putting it on in the first place.

I realise this is a discussion, so I will add another two pence worth. Regarding the thread title, I am sick and tired of the negativity of some of the posts here. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay up, as with most businesses the choice is yours, you just vote by walking away.

A few people, myself included have commented that £40 is an awful lot of money to pay, which, it is! If you get sick and tired over that then may I suggest you dont go on internet forums - forums are for discussion. In this instance regarding the farewell tour and things associated with it, such as the prices. It's just as easy as saying "dont pay up" etc. Some people would really want to go on this tour but are priced out of it due to the cost which I think is a great shame and is something that should be discussed.

Perhaps we can get away from all this and get back on topic. I personally think the price is a lot but I'm going to have to fork out and go on the tour. Of course, people will vote with their feet but I'd be surprised if the train was not full. I would like to see a more interesting route down to Acton and maybe a run on the test track but some things are not possible.

I certainty would like to see more intersrting routes, unfortunately we haven't been given an explanation of why not.
