Thanks 21146 for this and the other pictures you've posted on the very final days of the A stock. I take my hat off to you for taking the time and effort to record this and allow others to see what was happening. Thank you

Did it go by road? It was at the southern end of the train when it arrived at Northwood so couldn't have got out of the siding without some shunting back on to the running lines. My wife took my daughter to Northwood this evening to see the "last train" and there was a car badly damaged in the car park. Don't know if that was something to do with the "movements" going on there. If you're talking about the brand new black Audi and orange Ford, I havnt seen those parked there before, I was at Northwood last week for 717. There is a garage nearby, I think they may store cars waiting to be repaired there.

Yes there are often damaged cars stored there. There seem to be a lot of rats there too. Always have been!

I always felt I had little connection with them, being a 'DR' man, but on reflection: •I was shown over an A Stock at Neasden by a T/I as part of the Guard's course at the RTC. •The first train I ever drove during Guard's job-training was a 4-car A Stock on the ELL. •My Guard's road-test was by a Met A/M and included working an 8-car A Stock from Baker Street to Liverpool Street and a 4-car A Stock from Whitechapel to Surrey Docks. •I worked A Stock on the ELL as a Guard at Barking (Met) and we also had one duty doing Baker Street S/B to Baker Street N/B via Aldgate on an Amersham train. •When I was DTM in charge of Canal Junction cabin I would ride there and back on A Stock. •At Neasden TMR our entire Met service was A Stock and I saw the refurbished units arrive hauled by Class 37's and the same loco taking the 'silver' ones away to be done. •I also rode on an A Stock when it worked back from Upminster depot in (cancelled) engineering hours after it had work done on the wheel-lathe and must be the only person to ever exit an A Stock at Mile End station! Not bad for little connection! I can't really claim a connection with A Stock but I do have a fond memory. Very early on in my time on the UTS project I went to Amersham with an area manager to see the work going on there. On the return trip I had a cab ride in A Stock from Amersham to Baker St and can distinctly remember a very spirited run with 70 mph on the speedo (this was before they were restricted). Oh and the plunge into darkness at Finchley Rd. I've had a few cab rides over the years but that is the one that I remember most fondly.

Does it mean that assuming that the RAT runs, the trains will pass each other again? And if so, where?

They could pass at Pinner perhaps, if they both run to time! Good luck!

Maybe if it is possible to know the time T717 passes Harrow and then Northwood we might be able to narrow it.

Can someone definitively please advise how many A stocks are still live on LT rails as of today.
As far as I know there is an operating 5 car RAT set pictured on this site regularly but there seems to be another 4 car set 5110/5111 at Neasden...is 5111 & 5112 still on the tracks?....am aware of single car at LTM...a precise tally would be appreciated..thanks!

As far as I know there is: RAT1 5234-6036-6234-6235-5235 RAT2 5110-6110-6111-5111 Spare RAC 6132 Body spare 5112-6112-6113-5113 and 5034 in the LTM. Therefore 15 cars exist, 10 of which are likely to run on the rails.
I personally hope 5112 will run again but who knows.....

Sorry if this has already been answered, but looking through I can't find the answer and searching for something less than 4 letters doesnt work.
What is a RAT train? What if anything does RAT stand for?
