I managed to get on it from Barbican to Watford and then back to Harrow. Was good to see so many people turn out to give them a good 'send off'.
Didn't get any photos, but did get one video of the ECS departing Harrow-on-the-Hill
Unfortunately this video shows several things, which I think do spoil it somewhat. - The announcement at the start, telling people to get off the barriers/safety equipment, surely this is common sense! - The photographer effing and blinding at someone who accidentally walked into his shot, thus spoiling everybody else's videos (and meaning I had to spend time editing in a bleep!). - The graffitti on the back of the train. It definitely wasn't there at Watford, and there was a definite smell of fresh paint in the back coach around Moor Park. I hope with all the cameras around, that someone caught the culprit in the act!
Otherwise, a good way to spend an evening.
(Mods, if you feel this sails too close to the wind, feel free to edit/delete)

I managed to capture a few shots at Liverpool Street this afternoon. THIS is my favourite and the collection can be found HERE

I've uploaded my first ten photos of the final runs HERE. There's more to follow, but I'm getting tired now.

A lot more than that has changed. This was before the Berlin Wall was built. The Queen had only two children Macmillan was Prime Minister Beeching was still at ICI There was no such thing as colour TV No-one had been into space Student grants were still in the future So was the Victoria Line So was "Evening Star"
By the way - did someone say BBC London 6pom News covered it as well as ITV. I can't find in on their iplayer coverage.

Well I've retreated to The Merchant at Liverpool Street Station... The A Stock deserves something stronger than Coca-Cola to toast it, but I start night shift in 30 minutes. If anyone managed to video the young guy who successfully climbed on to the luggage rack in 5034 (later named and shamed by the driver - 'Matt, can you please get away from the doors'), will they be uploading it to YouTube? I've never seen 'yobbishness' in transport enthusiasts before, but it was good natured - cheering every blast of the siren, shouting 'Three cheers for the A stock' and, every time an S stock went past, bellowing 'scrap it!' Their hearts were in the right place. When I felt upset was when going back to Liverpool Street from Harrow. That's when it hit home. I lived the A stock too - my parents took me out when I was a kid on them, I commuted on them, I went to nights out on them, came back drunk on them, came home after seeing my first girlfriend on them - and, of course, photographed them. The A stock was a massive part of my life. I had to come today, and I'm so glad I made the effort, as did so many others. Lots of photos and videos - better than I got I suspect! - have already been uploaded, and I'm sure I'll follow suit. I too would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to those who made today happen. First ride on A stock: some time in 1974 Last ride on A stock: 26th September 2012 I was the luggage rack guy! My name is Ben, so I don't think the driver's comment was aimed at me.

Not long in from work and enjoying catching up on everybodys experiences of the last day, thanks to all for the photos of this memorable day.
I spent some time around lunchtime riding T412 from Northwood Hills to Amersham and back to Moor Park and then was at Watford to see it off on its final run to to Harrow. I spent years commuting on them daily Northwick Park/Moorgate, can't quite believe that there will be no more in proper service.......ever.
Look forward to Saturdays tour now and the very last ride with all the enjoyment and sadness that will go with it, after today suddenly the £40 cost doesn't seem so bad !

Oops, apologies for that Ben. And well done on being the last person to climb onto an A stock luggage rack (gotta be honest, on my hundreds of journies on A stock I've never actually seen it done before - and I'm also assuming that nobody in the other 7 carriages tried it).
Be home from work in 2 1/2 hours, then the uploading begins...

the ITV report (if you missed it) is here: www.itv.com/news/london/update/2012-09-26/saying-goodbye-to-oldest-tube-train/in the meantime, i was the chap making the video for LTM, and i'll be there this coming Saturday as well. a few of you asked what's going to happen to my footage, and the answer is: there'll be a 45 minute production which i'll hand over to the museum in the next month - and then it's up to them (not me) to decide what to do with it. they might just put a 10 minute version on their Youtube channel, or maybe the whole 45 minute, or they might decide to make it into an official DVD release. or they might say 'thanks' put it in their archives, and never show it, and no one will ever see it ... unless you ask me nicely! :-) see you all Saturday ...

Some good effort put into that news report! I was expecting it to be only an after thought of a feature.

So disappointed that I couldn't make it, that the reason for my not being able to make it turned out to be a waste of effort on a day that has now passed for ever, and to make matters worse I now have to catch the Met into town on 'the day after'. My little boy would have loved to have been for a last run out on the 'Metter-pottern line' yesterday, but he last stepped off an A stock train nearly two years ago and his mother has seen to it that I haven't seen him since. Ironic that after fighting for those two years I am told I am to see him again next week, and was told a few weeks ago that he can no longer remember ever having been on a train, never mind the stock which he could identify when he was two as the trains which took him to Daddy's house. www.motorphoto.co.uk/lfd/metcup.jpgMy wife kindly found the money to buy us tickets for Saturday. I have cleaned our family's headboard for a last picture with it at HOTH (our home station) if we can. If you happen to spot Paddington Bear on the train on Sunday, he is stowing away, as a little tribute to his owner, who doesn't even know he once would have wanted to join us. One day, it will show him that he was never forgotten about. Three generations of my family commuted on the A stock; for very many people in this part of London in particular, the passing of these trains will tug at memories and emotions arguably far more raw than the loss of the trains themselves. They were more a part of our lives than some of us knew.

5063 and 5034 will now go as T717 on Monday. So which car will be offered to acton? Anyway, the last passenger train yesterday was great! Even though the last run from Watford - Harrow was packet in the first Carriage it was a nice send off but i did expect a speech of some sort. I spent all day on the train and after all these years, it was hard to say goodbye knowing I will never travel on these trains, the driver announcing "Fast Amersham service next stop Harrow...", jumping about around Dollis Hill. .

Mate what an absolutely fantastic collection of photographs! The ones taken in winter are beautiful and of course that one in Wapping! Seriously well done mate, really impressed with them:) Cheers for the thumbs up - it's much appreciated and it's good someone else enjoys them as much as I do taking them Just sorting out shots from the last day, and the link will follow in a while. Got one real cracker in slight sun at Kilburn with the London backdrop... RIP A stock

Anyway, the last passenger train yesterday was great! Even though the last run from Watford - Harrow was packet in the first Carriage it was a nice send off but i did expect a speech of some sort. Speech ?? - The Driver of the first Baker - Amersham (fast) trip made a suitable PA. Former member of this forum MetDriver made detailed PAs suitably noting the historic occasion on the trips he drove (first s/b to Aldgate and first Aldgate - Amersham) and again when he was present in the cab for the final two trips to and from Watford! (the "get off the train quickly" at Harrow PA wasn't him by the way!) The station staff at Barbican and Farringdon also detailed the significance of the train by Public Address as it passed their stations. Pretty good as far as speeches go for something on the move

Confused here- is one car being preserved or a full four car unit? Surley there is no point to one car, I thought a four car unit would be preserved for special events

.
Going back to what 'littleredtrain' commented about his you tube clip somewhat ruined by someone ranting. The guy was ranting at me, but I never moved and did not step out in front of his view. His anger seemed unfounded and pretty over the top. If he wishes to show evidence of me spoiling his picture then I apologies.
Earlier on in the day I filmed the train departing Rickmansworth and lo and behold someone did step out in front of my film. I don't think for a minute he did it on purpose but I only managed to film twice that day and was disappointed not to have had a better results.
I did not rant and swear at him although I was pretty miffed.
Anyway it is sadly game over for A stock, I've tried to record and make memories of these units as much as I can this year and so was lucky enough to make the journey to the capital last Wednesday.

Really sad to see them go, but i've been wondering about something for many, many years - the Metropolitan Railway crests on some of the units. Any idea why and when they were applied and was there any method to the units that received them or was it just random?
Regards, Chris
