Another observation. During the early days of running when I first got a ride on an S Stock, they were carrying their Train numbers on the carriage side Matrix displays as part of the scrolling message. All of my above observations didnt do this and I had to get the Train number of the end. Has this been disabled to avoid confusion? Are you sure they don't just show the set number on the leading car's side display? That's what they've done on the Victoria line 2009 stock, so that the train ops can see which train is stood in the platform for relief (for example at Seven Sisters you can't see the front of the train when it's in tunnel), so a train op walking down the platform won't know which train it is.

When I was on the first journey, every side display scrolled between: '402 Metropolitan Line' 'Wembley Park' 'Semi-fast' not sure if that's the right order or not.

According to the sign on the wall - hasn't the train stopped short?

no, the driver lines the board up with a reference point in his cab.

According to the sign on the wall - hasn't the train stopped short? No. The markers are placed so the ideal stop is when the T/Op lines up the centre of the mark with their sightline through the edge of the windscreen.

I was on one from Pinner last week(Monday 13th Dec about 14.00) and the voice announcements about stations were not in sync. with the carriage displays and actual positions of the trains. eg just leaving Harrow on the Hill and the display showing next stop Northwick Park, the recorded message says''Next stop Harrow on the Hill'' .This in the same mode continued all the way to Baker St. Maybe we were going backwards in time and space and I didn't notice.

I had my first experience of S Stock today (changed trains at Baker Street and got lucky) - and I loved it! Looks really nice and experience of looking through the entire train's length was surreal. It's not like I lived under a rock, I did see many walk-through trains before - but travelling on one as a part of a usual commute through the old Met tunnels was great ;D
I (respectfully) love the A Stock, but the replacement is good enough for me not to mourn the old trains (too much).

It was worth a cold afternoon wait for the S Stock, the all stations to Watford at about 1730. I filmed from Finchley Central to Wembley Park.

I know they are lower than the A stock but I suspect the East Finchley tunnel is a little too low ;D
Look forward to seeing the video, hopefully there are plenty of A stocks in it too!

Originally I understood there was going to have to be a new sub station at the Chesham end to cope with S Stock - not seen any evidence of this being done. Another example of just getting by with the existing infrastructure? Think there are some stretches of new aluminium conductor rail on the branch - maybe this is enough??

S stock has run to Chesham in service a few times. The upgrade only required the approx 2km of low loss conductor rail.

PRJB if you're reading this......you may never thought you'd have seen this from me.....anyway, here goes: I had my first taste of S stock from Harrow to Baker Street this evening - and was actually (and I was surprised) very impressed! The seats were nowhere near as bad as I thought (in fact my forward facing had two armrest levels for me to use!), and it felt like a solid, robust bit of kit. I liked the acceleration and the feeling coming down past Kilburn and West Hampstead was rather pleasant. Never thought I'd say it but I actually really enjoyed the ride Don't get me wrong, I love the A stock and will miss them terribly, but S is nothing like I expected it to be.

Am i the first one ever to clear a wrong signal for an S stock? I cleared the wrong starter at Watford the other day for an S stock but the driver kindly called up and told me about it, does it only count if it's out on the road or if it's taken?

No you're not, but you are the first one to opernly admit it on a public forum ;D There's a big difference between a wrong signal lowered and it being accepted. The latter is down to the driver, but the former is down to you. Now what was that name again for the item... ;D

Unfortunately we are having enough problems running the through Chesham service and new timetable with A-stock, let alone running S-stock to Chesham. Basically, until a few issues are sorted out, each weekday we are having to run with a number of "planned cancellations" to the service. The S-stocks, if available, are more or less fixed to certain trips, and cannot be mixed and matched due to the limited number of qualified train operators.
