That sounds like a cancellation on the Chesham service (causing an hour-long gap) being covered by an Uxbridge service (causing a 20 minute gap).
Unfortunately this was always going to be the problem with adding a "new" branch to the service.

There was a 30 min plus gap in the Uxbridge service! The Chesham through trains have struck on the second already!!
I wonder if the S8 actually went to Chesham?

What exactly is wrong with the doors? They seemed to be having a lot of trouble opening them today. Also it was the first time I've seen a ticket inspector with his handheld oyster reader.

I travelled on an S stock today from Northwood to Baker Street then back to Wembley Park.
The doors still suck, that horrible unnecessary door opening siren needs to go.
I did notice they have fixed the patchy announcements, they're much more fluid now.
I'm still yet to see a ticket inspector on the Underground - never seen one so far, I'm sure they don't actually exist!

They are NOT the wrong way round to me! The doors closing has the classic beep beep beep rapidly sound, and I think the door open sounder goes well with the overall sound of the stock.

I liked how just before the train was about to leave, the driver said mind the doors even though the S stock doors close automatically and so most of them were already closed. I wonder what the new PA is going to be.

mcmaddog - the closing chime is a little odd on the 09, but it's still perfectly audible. I like those sounds too. They have a lot of character, despite being near enough brand new. den, I'd think it would still be mind the doors. You can't change that!

We have been suffering a shortage of train crews over the last few days. Possibly then, there was an even larger gap to Chesham. I am certain my colleagues would have balanced the service in the best way they could.

What exactly is wrong with the doors? They seemed to be having a lot of trouble opening them today. Also it was the first time I've seen a ticket inspector with his handheld oyster reader. Not sure if it is still the case, but there was a small software problem affecting the doors and the selective door opening. Also, if the train does not stop absolutely dead on the mark, the T/Op has to over-ride the "correct side door enable" to get the doors to open. Doing this cuts out the first 4 and last 4 doors as a back-up measure in case the train is part-way out of a platform. Naturally it will take a while for all drivers to get fully to grips with the stock and be able to stop on the mark each and every time. They are completely different trains to what many of them have been used to for years.

The TBC is very different to the separate controls of the A stock isn't it. I know lot of drivers like it so it will take time to adjust.

The S Stock CSDE zones are shorter than the traditional ones and at some locations they are not yet perfectly aligned with the new stopping marks. This means that even if stopped dead on the mark, the train might not pick up the CSDE signal. So while we are quite capable of consistently stopping the train in the correct (signed) position, at some locations this will be in advance of the CSDE zone and thus the override has to be used.
No doubt these issues, at the few locations where they exist, will be attended to in due course and customers will encounter fewer instances of the override being used.

I have a video of them at Moor Park: Also, several people in this thread have said that only 3 S8s are available for service. Four production trains have been delivered (21003/5/7/9), and all seem to have entered service (I have only seen 21003, but other members have said they've been on the others), so is one of them only being used for testing at the moment?

A friend of mine viewed 21005+21006 running on "train 451" yesterday. Is this a regular S8 stock working now?

Doubt it, as is often said, they have speical test paths but will take up 'normal' (410-417/420-435/440-452) workings if required

I travelled on an S stock today from Northwood to Baker Street then back to Wembley Park. The doors still suck, that horrible unnecessary door opening siren needs to go. I did notice they have fixed the patchy announcements, they're much more fluid now. I had a ride on an S from Baker St to Harrow today, all stations. I had to press the button to open the doors and the speed they opened at and the noise they made made me jump! Other than that, the doors were fine. The announcements and displays were not right. When stopped they correctly announced / showed the correct next station. However, after starting off, they then announced and showed the next station to be the one they were last at! At 4:45 ish, there were few seats left. I was able to walk to the front to find a seat though. However, the wide "entrance / exit" between the cars did not provide a meaningful visual barrier, so after a while it seemed like walking down an endless passage way and being a VIP person, I could not easily work out how many cars I had walked through! When sitting and looking down the train, it just looked like a long corridor, not actually a comforting view. Some young lads were excited about the ability to walk through and were discussing what fun it is going to be to run through the train when they are "trolleyed" - great! The seat was OK, not sure I will say the same on the full journey to Amersham. The ride was OK, the train seemed fast, but it bounced and swayed when at speed north of Finchley Road. The smaller and open seats made me feel not as secure as on an A stock, even though the ride was better. In the end, I suspect the ride is dependant to a great extent on the track. I enjoyed the ride, but it was special being a new train. I will need to give them a few more journeys, especially a long journey at peak time to form a real opinion.

Another observation. During the early days of running when I first got a ride on an S Stock, they were carrying their Train numbers on the carriage side Matrix displays as part of the scrolling message. All of my above observations didnt do this and I had to get the Train number of the end.
Has this been disabled to avoid confusion?

Sometimes whatever it takes will be done to make sure a Chesham doesn't end up being diverted to Amersham. There are no plans to run non-stop Baker Street-Chesham though ;D (P.s. these threads are getting confusing. Could we try and keep the Chesham services and S-stock subjects separate - as at present they are 2 different things.)
