I would be extremely grateful if anyone can advise whether 5006 was still coupled to 5175 at the time of its electrical failure last Thursday evening. Thank you MetControl for the information concerning 5006's demise.

Well, she's sitting off juice in the old siding at Northwood. I filmed both entry and exit (badly it has to be said!) It was quite a sad site. The train rolled into Northwood, the Westinghouse brakes were discharged for the last time, compressors pointlessly working away. After a very quick turn round and the shunt signal rotated, the driver built up some speed and rolled in the siding. A load pop of the line breakers was heard for the last time as the train coasted onto the rusty track and came to a halt. The ERU took over from there. RIP my friends. Every train that passed whistled out of respect for its departing kin.....

While I appreciate that this is a traumatic time for some, do we really need a separate thread for every unit?

I got to Northwood approx 30mins early. On looking at the non electrified siding/s I couldn't work out exactly how they would manage this. The headshunt seems very short IMHO. Over the next half hour a number of other mourners arrived, and train 775 duly appeared just a few mins late. After drifting into the non-electrified siding, several guys in h-v congregated at the front of the train and.... started to work out how they were gonna do this! I was told there was a diesel generator at the station end of the train to provide some measure of electrical power. I got the distinct impression that no-one had properly measured out the tight dimensions, and exactly how they would get the first couple of carriages out. Once a couple are moved I guess there will be more room, but they did seem to be making it up on the fly!

While I appreciate that this is a traumatic time for some, do we really need a separate thread for every unit? calm down. It's only done to highlight the units that are leaving this mortal earth.

Admin Comment:In fairness it could be done in a single thread. We'll leave things as they are for the time being - bigger fish to fry and all that - but things are getting a little bit silly with the amount of S stock threads and over lapping conversations regarding the current status of the line upgrade etc..........the forum staff are aware of the messy state of the Met board and will be looking to have a tidy up in the future...... 2nd Edit: In fact having had a quick look through some of the latest threads on this board, I see that 5179 appears in at least two other threads, and one of those features a number of images and video - and one of the posts in this very thread is repeated in another thread on the same subject!! This is getting silly folks

Somebody said they will lift 2 cars per day, so they will be there 4 days! The method statement states two per day, six trains in total. At various dates however.

I never really got the opportunity to grow an affection for these trains. Living out East I only used them for trips to Wembley (which have become a rarity nowadays, thank you Arsenal).
On the plus side we will have hours of video footage to savour and relive the memories with after the axe finally falls, unlike with my favourite trains, the CO/CPs.
