Having ridden the S stock again today and seen it twice, I have decided that I love my A stock so much more!

Are 21 sidings used? 21 siding has been used to reverse the service for weekend engineering on a fairly regular basis over the last 3 or 4 years There is a rusty rail move into it on the MF There is (presume there still is?) a de-icing filler tank (or whatever its technical name is) in 21 siding allowing trains to be re-filled there as and when required

Having ridden the S stock again today and seen it twice, I have decided that I love my A stock so much more! I do think the seats are more comfortable on A stock, but the ride on the S stock is so smooth, which comes as something of a relief. It'll make a change to have clearly defined seats too, even if they're not as comfy. I suppose the real test will be when I experience a packed S stock: hopefully the walk-through design will mean a better dispersion of passengers.

You'll all be pleased in the summer when it heats up to get on one.

'When' it heats up! This is the UK after all! ;D
I have never found the A stock too hot, the hopper windows and R door windows allowed enough air in for me anyway.

Try being stuck in them in the blazing sun (due to signal failure) on one of the warmest days of the year... Hopefully, one of the regular photographers will be out to capture the A stock departing by road, too.

Any idea on the unit yet? Is it 8 or 4 cars?

As I mentioned on the 'A60 Withdrawal' thread a couple of days back, I have not noted the following units in passenger service for some 4-5 weeks: 5074, 5134 and 5177. I did also advise 5138 but that I noted in passenger service yesterday.

Any idea on the unit yet? Is it 8 or 4 cars? The train is booked, leaving Neasden at 11.47, on Thursday arriving at Northwood at noon. This location provides good photographic options. The nearby car park, footbridge, and small road bridge are all good public access points. Five trains are set to leave this way. 5132/5179 are the most likely. They were booked to go 13/01/11.!!

It is a sad reflection on the setup of the UK's railways that a train being sent from London to Rotherham is broken up and put on lorries, rather than being hauled up.

So the train will run under its own power then?
Shame it can't be in pax service, I'd be on it!
Is the train going to Booths of Rotherham?

Well if does turn out to be 5132 and 5179 that depart for scrapping next Thursday, some of you may be interested to know that both were in passenger service today. 5132 is coupled to 5064 and 5179 is coupled to 5108.
Re my earlier posting today, 5177 is back in service.
Member 21121 was asking about 5142 a few days back. That unit has also been in passenger service this week, coupled to 5199.

Returning to the title of this thread, " the end is nigh "
when do people really think we will witness the A stock in normal service for the last time?

Well that shatters my theory that 5142 was alone at Neasden being prepared for its doom last Sunday... Is much equipment being salvaged from units before they head away from London?

I doubt it considering the trains are running to Northwood under their own power. Normally, however, bits will be removed and will keep the rest of the gang going. Which over a years worth of running left the parts are needed!

Returning to the title of this thread, " the end is nigh " when do people really think we will witness the A stock in normal service for the last time? the met is now only getting 40 s stock, because uncle wants Some S7s out for London 2012. Some A stock will run late 2012, and quite likely a bit further.

Guess this won't be true then:
"The first new train ran on 2 August 2010. By the end of 2011 all new trains will be in use."

I think TFL refer to the media run as the first journey, not the few test runs before hand.
