The link in a60's post is not suitable for those of a sentimental disposition or those with a special affection for the A60 LU stock as the image is likely to cause distress.

My word, they've done a good job on that haven't they? Has anybody got a bit of it they can pass my way? I'd like to commemorate the A60 by turning it into a fishing lure. Blue, red and white is a killer for pike.

There, there, now go and lie down in a darkened room and Matron will come along and attend to your needs.

However hard it is, you've got to let them go. They will be scrapped, and no doubt a huge amount of the material taken will be recycled - so just think one day your beloved A60 could be turned into a tin of beans ;D ;D (Someone hold metman back, I think he's going to punch me ) Those car drivers amongst us I daresay have sent at least one car to a scrap yard - maybe the first car you had, and probably because it was an old banger when you got it. The A60s may have been able to carry on for a few more years, but for how many more? And at what cost to the company and thus to the fare-payer? One wouldn't mind if they were being replaced with something better.. ..I rode on an 09 stock today for only the 2nd time ever (was in a hurry to get to Oxford Circus House for 0900, no time to wait for a 67 stock). The seats are uncomfortable, the ride quality is poor, the train constantly lurches from what feels like full motoring to full braking, stops with a jerk far worse than most manually driven lines, it was definitely hotter inside than a 67 stock, and at every station time was wasted waiting for the pilot light to be gained. The return journey on a 67 stock felt like being in a Rolls Royce by comparison.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

that is a sad sight, like many traveled on these since the 70s,i remember the 38 stock on the bakerloo when i lived at queensbury to 1980 although it changed around that time and moved to chesham and now aylesbury in 2000.
these are really the last of that era.i remember my late father traveling out on these to amersham daily from queensbury in the 70s recalling getting stuck at rickmansworth in the snow.
i wonder will one of these be at quainton in the future?,there is the sandite train that will probably still be around, when i pass neasden in the future i will no doubt look to see if any are still lying around.

+1 A lot of us hanker after the past as it is a time we usually remember fondly, particularly our childhood years. As much as I regret the passing of old trains we must remember that everything gets old and dies eventually, even A Stock. It would also be correct to say that we tend to blot out the bits of th past that aren't pleasant. Public hangings, scurvy and rickets all spring to mind as the past we don't really need back. Oh, wait a minute, rickets is back apparently.........too many kids spending too long indoors on video games or the Internet......

I've got to say, I'm all for moving on (to whatever we end up with - and hopefully it will be better than the 09 stock) but that image even shocked me ;D
That's not the careful deconstruction / recycling of parts we thought was going to happen.

That's quite artistic, The mangled red door and blue skirt give the effect of a crushed LU roundel, how appropriate.

Unfortunately for you lot, I am afraid that 'S' Stock is here and it is here to stay. I am over half way through my career now and I suspect that I will be 'meeting my maker' before 'S' Stock does.
Never mind!

Never mind! Don't say that mate, you've got a few years left in ya! I'd hope you'll outlive the S stock! It is a shame in a way though, all these generic trains coming in, takes the interest out of the SSLs. Currently, there are 3 different types of train in use. In 5 years there will be only 1!

Currently, there are 3 different types of train in use. In 5 years there will be only 1! That strikes me as quite sensible progress... You're reducing training, spare assets and expertise by 1/3rd.
