A visit yesterday revealed WN as host to 172002/004/006/007 with only 172005 out to play between Gospel Oak and Barking. It was actually stabled at East Ham depot when I first saw it, only coming (back) into service later in the afternoon. I saw a 172 at the East Ham depot today whilst travelling on the 2000 C2C service from Fenchurch St. towards Barking. Does it stay there often? I thought that depot was for C2C trains only.

Not a good day for the 172's yesterday (9 August), I thought I'd have a quick trip out and left Gospel Oak at 1620 for Barking. The only 172 I saw was 006 which appeared to have failed at South Tottenham as the 1650 Gospel Oak - Barking was cancelled as I found out when I got back to Blackhorse Road.

August 21st is the date when the GOB is due to go 100% 172s. But I think the date might slip

172003, 172004, 172007 and at least one other classmate all noted on Willesden Depot at 1pm today. 172006 was on the 13.35 Gospel Oak - Barking service, with 150128 + 150129 on the other diagrams.

172003 has been delivered. And reported elsewhere that it is due to return to Derby from Willesden today!

As it has now emerged that Class 378s are fitted with whistles, can anyone confirm if the Class 172s have whistles as well?
Also there are never more than 2xClass 172s in service at any one time, LOROL have stated that the Barking-Gospel Oak service will be all Class 172 by the end on the month, do our LO train crew friends think this will be achieved?

I always thought people from Somerset were more talkative!
Since every other promise regarding the 172s has been broken I suppose I shouldn't be surprised! At BGOLUG we are hearing increasing complaints about the air-conditioning not working properly, wonder what next summer will be like?

The path to getting the 172s in service has been rough, BUT LOROL has not broken any promises since nothing was guaranteed - it would be foolish to do so with new rolling stock. BGOLUG seems to spend its time carping and preaching about nothing. Not surprising from a 'group' that has not had an AGM for over 20 months nor has it produced any reports or audited accounts or even an approved constitution - it seems to exist only in the minds of a very few individuals with axes to grind and too much time on their hands producing rubbish on the internet.

Tch, tch! Is Mr. Dunning the fount of all TfL knowledge and he is always right? He seems to become very emotional at any perceived slight upon TfL London Rail! Just who exactly is he? Does anyone know? LOROL told passenger representatives on 9th September that they expected to get all 8 Class 172s into passenger service by the end of October. At least one front line LOROL staff member seems to think that unlikely. Mr. Dunning should “calm down” and refrain from making unfounded remarks about a group which has been around longer than TfL and of which he is not a member.

If LOROL do manage to get all of the class 172's in service then that should mean that we can finally get the class 150's down to Bristol/westcountry to help with overcrowding issues.
At the moment the contract for the loco hauled has finished but both sets are still in use on a a as required contract until the class 150's arrive from London Overground

It is actually but there is now a 20m minimum distance between the front of the train and the signal post and the front of 2xClass 172s is just before the post of the bay outlet signal and considered too close. I also hear that there's talk of a new train crew mess room having to be provided at Upper Holloway so units can be stabled there. Heard anything about this Daz and SomersetChris?

Ah it seems I have hit a raw nerve with BGOLUG or should I use the name we all know it by GOBBLEDEGOOK. In any case I have been a member of this group under my real name......and no I will remain a mystery. The group is at best moribund and is only active in the imaginations of about 8 or 9 people. They spend all their time carping and complaining and very little in constructive conversation. The Class 172 is essentially a new type of rolling stock and of course things will go wrong. The late delivery was one such incident. TfL and LOROL can only do their best with what they are given. Considering the improvements on the GOB line since TfL took over and the real possibility that electrification might be achieved sooner rather than later, I would suggest that GOBBLEDEGOOK should should help by supporting TfL and LOROL rather than constant harping!

I have not heard a thing about it. I will make some enquiries though. We do have a problem though that in the morning there are trains booked to be sat in the loop for a long time and the neighbours are complaining about the noise.

Not sure if LOROL can get four units out this week. Just one today caused chaos and mayhem this morning as 004 failed at Leyton Midland Road causing the service to be run between South Tottenham and Gospel Oak only right in the middle of the rush hour. Shunting had to take place at Gospel Oak in order to get the other 172 to assist the failed unit, this then caused further delays to the NLL. As an aside I did note that the London Overground vinyls have been removed from the 150 unit i was on today.

I see our 'international man of mystery' is using the royal 'we' again! He usually only does this when referring to TfL London Rail. It is his utterances that are GOBBLEDEGOOK! BGOLUG doubts his claim of ever having been a member, for if he had, he would know that the group had been one of the promoters of the original 'Outer Circle' concept back in 1997. We are pleased to support TfL London Rail and LOROL when they get it right and they often do! The incremental timetable improvements that TfL have funded since 2005 are a good example. As far as we can see, BGOLUG has and is doing more to lobby for electrification than TfL London Rail has done recently. Since our latest press release on the issue (see our website), two more MPs are supporting us and a major industry supplier has been in touch. Hardly a "moribund" rail users group.........!

005 and 006 out today, so LOROL are half way to getting four in service. The vinyls have been removed from 150s 123 and 131, FGW must be getting impatient!

Actually, above related to yesterday, today LOROL turned out THREE 172s this morning including 001 which we think is its first day in public service. Wonder if they are all still in traffic now?

Noted today that 150 130 is being prepared for FGW having had all its decals removed and being patched up. I think all of LOROLs 172s are in Willesden.

LOROL had at least 3 class 172's out yesterday. I photographed 172001 & 172005. All of the trains i saw were worked by class 172's with only 1 class 150 in use.
I did notice that 172001 did manage to acellerate very quickly especially compared to the class 170's

Was 007 one of the 6 in service? I saw it sitting on the freight link to the NLL (heading toward the NLL) at Willesden Junction yesterday. It was sitting there for the entire 15 minutes or so I could see it until I headed Sheperds Bushward, but presumably would've been toddling off in the direction of active duty?
