Cheers for the fix. I could never understand why after the @ it wouldn't work by just clicking on it. Thanks

Dazz - 172001 seems to be spending a fair bit of time on the Chiltern Line at the moment, rather than LOROL. I can understand why this might be so, given the capacity constraints on the NLL and GOBLIN but is this mileage accumulation and/or driver training for LOROL only or are Chiltern drivers joining in (other than as pilotmen, of course)?

I can understand why this might be so, given the capacity constraints on the NLL and GOBLIN but is this mileage accumulation and/or driver training for LOROL only or are Chiltern drivers joining in (other than as pilotmen, of course)? This was posted by someone on the RailUK Forums "172001 is on type test not mileage accumulation and driven by a GBRF driver. All bogies are instrumented and the kit referred to above is essentially logging the instrumentation that will ultimately be used to validate the design. Bedford - Bletchley is bolted joint track >50mph and useful to demonstrate compliance to railway group standards. Last Saturday saw interworking tests between 165 & 168's at Aylesbury a compliance to specification issue rather than speculation of future working. Hope this gives insight to what is 172001 is actually doing." posted by TurboStar_2533 www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=437275&postcount=231

I stand corrected.. Yes 172001 is under test and driven by a GBRF driver. Just added a few more pics on my flickr site. tiny.cc/o0f1k

Reported elsewhere that 172005/172006 were en route from Derby to Willesden yesterday evening. And they'd arrived when I went past this morning. Currently standing at the northern end of the depot.

I would also add that it's not just "daily mail" types (which I am not) who are opposed to the olympics. There was a campaign ('nolondon2012', I think) run by locals who did not want the olympics and the issues associated with it (such as soaring rents - which does NOTHING to help local people).
Aaaanyway ... on a more positive note, there's a Class 172 on the GOBLIN line today. I went on it and what a joy it is! Lovely, quiet motors (which make a similar "gear shift" sound to a modern bus or coach), spacious seating and very smooth ride (it really does glide along). The train is still in it's pristine state - no adverts or posters inside it yet.
In short - a real treat to use. I just wish they'd kitted out the interior of the 378s in the same way.

I still think the all-yellow ends of these look Ffyglu. Ah well, progress.

Spotted it in Willesden next to the Bakerloo Line at around 18.30 on Saturday.
There were a few people at Willesden on the footbridge over the WCML next to the High Level platforms with binoculars...

Went to Blackhorse Road this evening to see what I could see - still no sign of 09 stock on the Vic, but more luck on the Goblin: a Class 172 (005) arrived within minutes, heading for Barking. It seems I was very lucky, the other four trains I saw were all 150s.
First impressions:
Crowded! Rammed, standing room only. If this is normal, they should have been 3-car units. (I remember 4-cars working the line in the late 1970s) What on earth was the service like before it became 4tph?
Most passengers seemed to be regulars: I don't think there were many like me, just trying the new trains.
But I liked it: fairly quiet for a diesel unit (although it was noticeably louder outside). And unlike the 378s, they have remembered to fit some seats.

From those pics, they look spacious and reasonably comfy, plenty of legroom despite the dreaded upright thin seats. Can't wait to sample one and maybe take back what I've just written!

I'm pretty sure they ARE spacious - but not THAT much! There is definitely a wide-angle lens at play there!

Does anyone know what times the 172s will be running to on the GOBLIN tomorrow (Tuesday)? All three were 150s last Sunday.

Does anyone know what times the 172s will be running to on the GOBLIN tomorrow (Tuesday)? I just went to Blackhorse Road, the midpoint of the route, and waited - if there are any in service, one of them will turn up within 45 minutes - I was lucky as the first eastbound train was a 172. If it's peak hour, and you've seen three trains pass in each direction, you've seen all there is to see.

A visit yesterday revealed WN as host to 172002/004/006/007 with only 172005 out to play between Gospel Oak and Barking. It was actually stabled at East Ham depot when I first saw it, only coming (back) into service later in the afternoon.
